The creation of Stephen Colletti and James Lafferty, Netflix’s ‘Everyone Is Doing Great,’ is a dark comedy drama series that revolves around the bond between two former costars, Seth and Jeremy, who once reveled in fame and success from their hit television vampire drama called ‘Eternal.’ A few years after the show ended, the duo find themselves leaning on each other and other costars, including Andrea and Izzy, in search of their lost glory.
As they collectively struggle to regain the level of stardom they were accustomed to, they navigate the complex paths of love and friendship. Seth and Jeremy also grapple with the stress and expectations that come along with the endless cycle of auditioning, while trying to confront their personal demons. The coming-of-age tale is brought to life by the compelling performances of James Lafferty, Stephen Colletti, Alexandra Park, Cariba Heine, Tom Fugedi, Karissa Staples, and Sean Carrigan, and unfolds mainly in Wilmington, North Carolina, which serves as the narrative’s visual canvas.
Everyone Is Doing Great Filming Locations
‘Everyone Is Doing Great’ is filmed across North Carolina and California, specifically in the Wilmington metropolitan area, the Los Angeles metropolitan area, Ojai, Palm Springs, and, seemingly, Santa Barbara. The pilot was shot on a minimal budget and with a splinter crew, after which the creators raised over $260,000 from their fans to bring the rest of the episodes to life. The inaugural iteration was reportedly shot between October and December 2018. As for the sophomore rounds, principal photography seemingly got underway in February 2023 and wrapped up before July of the same year.
Wilmington, North Carolina
A significant portion of the filming of ‘Everyone Is Doing Great’ took place in the Wilmington Metropolitan Area of North Carolina. Several scenes were taped in the Cape Fear River, a 191-mile-long blackwater river that runs along Wilmington and nearby communities in the area. The team also ventured downtown to shoot some scenes. Several neighborhoods located in the heart of the region also make an appearance in the comedy-drama series. The cast and crew were also spotted filming around the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 601 College Road. In addition, it appears that Wrightsville Beach in New Hanover County served as another shooting spot.
Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, California
To create the visual aesthetic for the dark comedy show, the production team also settled on multiple locations across the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area in California. A major portion of the shooting was carried out in the sprawling city of Los Angeles in the southern part of the Golden State. Interestingly, cameras were set up at several privately owned properties, including residences belonging to the cast and crew members that were made available for the purpose of production. The interior scenes showcase the charming household setting with snug decor.
Meanwhile, the sunlit streets of the City of Angels serve as the backdrop for many exterior shots. Nestled in the west of downtown LA, Santa Monica is also one of the filming sites of ‘Everyone is Doing Great.’ In the coastal city, the team utilized the premises of a liquor shop at 1011 Broadway named Broadway Wine & Spirits. Aside from the aforementioned locations, filming was seemingly conducted in West Hollywood in the heart of LA, likely alongside the neighborhood of Silver Lake and Manhattan Beach in the southwestern LA County.
Other Locations in California
Besides these locations, shooting might have also occurred in other locations in the state. Offering sweeping views of the Santa Ynez Mountains, the city of Santa Barbara on the central California coast is likely where a few scenes were taped. From what we can tell, the quaint town of Ojai in Ventura County is also another shooting site. Some shots of the second season feature the desert resort city of Palm Springs in Riverside County as the backdrop. Located at the foot of the San Jacinto Mountains within the Coachella Valley and the Colorado Desert, it has also hosted the filming of ‘Scammerhead’ and ‘Into the Wild.’
