1923: Will Elizabeth Dutton Give Birth or Lose Her Baby? Is Her Child in Yellowstone?

Elizabeth Dutton’s wish to become a mother faces several challenges in Paramount+’s Western series ‘1923.’ After a miscarriage in the first season, the Duttons start to consider the possibility of her never becoming pregnant again. The assumption turns out to be wrong as Dr. Steven Miller discovers she is carrying a child in the fourth episode of the second installment. The revelation also convinces her to remain together with Jack Dutton and the latter’s family in Montana rather than leaving for Boston. However, in the second season finale, Elizabeth changes her mind regarding staying in the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch after learning about Jack’s death, raising concerns over the future of her baby! SPOILERS AHEAD.

Elizabeth’s Departure From the Dutton Ranch May Help Her Protect Her Baby

In the second season finale of ‘1923,’ Elizabeth grows worried about Jack Dutton’s absence among the men who accompany Spencer Dutton to their ranch. Soon, her husband’s dead body is discovered in the woods. After his funeral, she decides to part ways with the Duttons since she no longer has a reason to compromise her life for the sake of the family. Elizabeth has put her life on the line multiple times to serve the interests of the Duttons, thinking of Jack, and his death puts an end to the same. She likely decides to leave Montana for Boston, where she has wanted to go after breaking up with her husband before learning about her pregnancy.

Elizabeth’s move to Boston may turn out to be advantageous for both the mother and her unborn baby. The departure, first of all, means that she won’t need to deal with life-threatening circumstances in the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch anymore. Both man and nature have made her life miserable while she lives with her husband’s family, giving her surprises one after the other, which are undoubtedly bad for the well-being of her unborn child. Since she no longer needs to deal with similar threats, she can prioritize looking after her baby over saving her life from death.

Furthermore, Boston has the right medical infrastructure to look after Elizabeth compared to Montana. Since she has already suffered a miscarriage, this pregnancy is nothing but incredibly complicated for the young woman. She may need the best care possible to ensure that she won’t lose her child again, and she can ensure the same when she reaches Boston. If she is with the Duttons, in the time of a potential emergency, she would need to wait for Dr. Miller or embark on a perilous journey to Bozeman. Both of these options may cause a delay that can kill her unborn baby. Thus, her move to Boston can be a blessing in disguise.

Elizabeth’s Baby Does Not Appear in Yellowstone

Even if Elizabeth gives birth to her and Jack’s baby, he or she does not appear in ‘Yellowstone.’ Considering the circumstances, this omission is understandable. The young woman leaves Montana seeking a fresh start to her life, which means that her unborn baby is no longer a part of the past she wants to move on from. Since she has no wish to remain with the Duttons, she may not have let her child be a part of Jack’s family even if she has given birth to the kid without any complications.

When Elizabeth prepares to leave the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, Cara Dutton brings up the matter of the former marrying again. Even though Jack’s widow dismisses the possibility of it, it is not impossible at all. Elizabeth has prioritized her well-being and survival over her relationship with her husband, which is why she prepares to leave him to settle in Boston before learning about her pregnancy. Now that he is dead, she may consider improving her life by marrying again after a considerable mourning period. She can even be drawn to remarriage just for the sake of her baby growing up with a father figure.

If that happens, Elizabeth’s baby must have grown up without any connection with the Duttons, explaining his or her absence in ‘Yellowstone.’ Having said that, we may still meet this child if Taylor Sheridan wants to introduce him in ‘The Madison,’ an upcoming spin-off of the original show. The series will establish the McIntosh family from New York City in the ‘Yellowstone’ universe. At this point, we cannot completely rule out the possibility of Elizabeth’s son or daughter being part of this family. After all, Boston is not so far away from NYC!
