Hallmark Movie ‘A Magical New York Christmas’ Starts Filming in Winnipeg in April

The Gateway to the West will soon be home to a brand-new Hallmark holiday movie! ‘A Magical New York Christmas’ has chosen Winnipeg, Manitoba, as its filming location and is set to begin production on April 24, 2025. Directed by Jeffrey Beesley, the film is expected to wrap up within a few weeks or, at most, a month after filming begins, following Hallmark’s typical production schedule. Hence, fortunately for the hearties, the wait won’t be long.

While the plot and cast members remain under wraps, the movie is expected to deliver the signature wholesomeness that Hallmark is known for, making it a heartwarming addition to the holiday season lineup. Beesley is a seasoned director with over 30 directing credits to his name. He is particularly known for directing numerous Hallmark movies, including ‘The Christmas Club,’ ‘Holiday Date,’ ‘Project Christmas Wish,’ ‘Snowkissed,’ ‘A Kiss Before Christmas,’ and ‘Pumpkin Everything.’

Beyond his work with Hallmark, Beesley’s diverse portfolio includes directing non-Hallmark projects such as the crime drama ‘The Hammer,’ a gripping legal thriller inspired by the true story of traveling circuit judge Kim Wanker, and ‘Dolan’s Cadillac,’ a tense neo-noir adaptation of Stephen King’s short story about revenge and obsession. He also directed ‘Borderline Normal,’ a coming-of-age drama that delves into the emotional turbulence of adolescence and self-discovery. Most recently, he directed ‘Following Yonder Star,’ a heartfelt holiday film starring Brooke D’Orsay and John Brotherton. Before that, he helmed ‘A Carol for Two,’ a poignant Christmas drama, and ‘Christmas on Call,’ a festive romantic film, both of which were released in 2024.

Winnipeg has become a popular filming destination, recently hosting projects like ‘Hanukkah on the Rocks,’ a Hallmark holiday movie, and ‘Autumn at Apple Hill,’ based on Angie Ellington’s eponymous novel. With its diverse landscapes and film-friendly environment, the city continues to attract major productions.
