Apple TV+’s comedy drama series ‘Acapulco’ follows the life of Máximo, a businessman narrating stories from his past at the Las Colinas resort in Mexico. The story switches between past and present, looking at her events that transformed the protagonist from a young Head of Operations at the resort to a rich man in the future, looking to restore the resort’s legacy. The previous episode ended with Gustavo, Paloma’s husband in the present, being inspired by the protagonist’s story about the protests at Las Colinas in 1986. In the past, Alejandro Vera agreed to the demands of the employees, ending the protests and refusing to sell the establishment back to Diane. Sara applies to NYU, while Esteban and Nora continue to investigate Juan’s mysterious death. These events lead to curious questions about the 4th episode of the 4th season titled ‘Higher Love.’ SPOILERS AHEAD.
Máximo Wishes For Julia to Move In With Him
In the present, Máximo and Paloma look for a suitable Head of Operations at Las Colinas. Despite many people applying, the CEO is unable to pick one, much to his daughter’s dismay. Later, the father takes his daughter to try the spa treatment at the resort and relax. He begins to narrate another story from the past. In the past, on the day of his one-year anniversary with Julia, Máximo takes Memo to show him the new apartment he intends to rent, before asking Julia to move in with him. Memo offers to help him out by organizing a small surprise for the girl. At the resort, Vera rants about other establishments like El Alma del Mar stealing the number one position from Las Colinas in magazines, and reveals his intention to bring it back to the top of the rankings.
Vera orders young Máximo and Chad to discreetly go to El Alma del Mar and decipher the mystery behind their “secret sauce” that’s keeping them above everyone. Meanwhile, Esteban and Nora engross themselves deeply in Juan’s case and continue observing others in the neighborhood, especially Señor Cabrera. The Agatha Christie couple observe a mysterious woman entering Cabrera’s house and fear for her safety, but ultimately conclude that the man isn’t their suspect anymore, since he hired the woman as a tutor, and because he can’t read or write, making him incapable of writing a death threat.
Chad Assumes a Hilarious Alias at a Rival Resort
At the resort, Diane feels adrift after Vera’s refusal to sell the resort, and eats up Héctor’s time at the pool by constantly asking him for favors and kissing him. The pool boy requests Memo to help get Diane banned from the pool area, to which the latter reluctantly agrees. Memo tells Diane about a local henna artist named Leticia, which prompts her to leave the pool area, giving Héctor some space. Julia, Máximo, and Chad arrive at El Alma del Mar to find its secrets. Chad pretends to be a man named “Doug Dangerfield” looking to book the place for a destination wedding, and narrates an elaborate made-up story to Gloria, the senior events coordinator.
Despite being there to discreetly gather information, Máximo is distracted by Julia, who takes a liking to the rival resort’s facility and luxurious beds, and talks about how she would like a big bed herself. This makes her lover insecure, whose new apartment only has a tiny bed. Meanwhile, Nora and Esteban break into Juan’s apartment again, and hilariously find out that the so-called death threat they saw earlier was just one of many notes stuck to each of the many vegetables in the fridge, denoting their nature. The two are disappointed that there was no murder after all, but are happy that they got to spend time with each other, solving a ridiculous mystery, leading to their increased mutual affection.
Don Pablo is Revealed to be the Secret Behind El Alma del Mar’s Success
Héctor enjoys his time as pool boy in Diane’s absence, but is shocked when she unexpectedly returns and confronts him about purposely sending her away. Diane storms out, leaving her lover confused. At El Alma del Mar, Paloma finds out from other guests that they prefer the resort because of its world-class golf course and the great drinks. Máximo continues to grow insecure as Julia keeps mentioning her desire to live in a luxury home, which is beyond his capacity. Chad takes a liking to Gloria as they take a tour of the resort. At Las Calinas, Héctor apologizes to Diane and promises to always be loyal to his lover.
She understands his position and tells him about her own insecurities. At Juan’s apartment, Dalia, the dead man’s daughter, runs into Esteban, after which she takes a box with golden coins from a closet and leaves, which makes him suspicious. Chad reveals his true identity to Gloria, while Máximo gives his lover the key to his new rented apartment and tells her that he cannot give her a life of luxury. Julia replies that she cares more about love than luxury, and agrees to move in with him. In the present, Paloma figures out that her father organized a day at the spa for them because he wanted to look good for Julia when she visits the new Las Colinas.
The older Máximo finishes narrating yet another story by saying that a good relationship is about giving one’s partner the benefit of the doubt and allowing them the flexibility to take you on their journey. In the past, Héctor and Diane grow closer, while Esteban starts thinking about a potential new suspect. Young Máximo and Julia move to their new apartment, and a budding romance between Gloria and Chad leads to a revelation from the girl that El Alma del Mar’s “secret sauce” is their consultant, who turns out to be Don Pablo himself.
