Netflix’s ‘Accused’ revolves around the complicated life of Dr. Geetika Sen, a respected and skilled gynecologist in the UK who is also a beloved member of the community. She lives a perfect, happy life with her wife, Meera, and the two plan to become parents through adoption. This seemingly calm reality is shattered when Geetika faces a serious accusation of being a sexual predator who abused her professional authority as a doctor. This allegation instantly throws Geetika into a chaotic world of social media harassment and prompts Meera, also a doctor, to harbor deep suspicions and doubts.

Meera becomes driven to uncover the truth about her wife, even as their relationship begins to deteriorate amid the investigation into Geetika. Forced to confront difficult choices, Geetika and Meera face unexpected challenges. With Geetika strictly maintaining that she is not a sexual predator, the reality seems to be more deceptive. As the hospital investigation into Geetika’s case intensifies, shocking truths come to light. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Accused Plot Synopsis

A hooded individual sends an email to Chapelstone General Hospital in London, UK, detailing how an incident at the hospital ruined their life. Dr. Geetika Sen, the head of the gynecology department of Chapelstone, is a beloved doctor, known for her sharp skills. Geetika receives a loving text from her wife, Meera, also a doctor, and then rushes to the operating room to help Dr. Cooper perform a cesarean section. At Geetika and Meera’s home, Angad, a friend and colleague of Meera, joins an ongoing party. Angad meets Sophie, the owner of Sophiana Spice Kitchen. Geetika arrives and announces that she has been offered a promotion to dean, which would require her to transfer to the hospital’s Chester branch. This is followed by the announcement that Meera and Geetika are adopting a child and moving to Chester. This makes Sophie and Angad visibly uncomfortable.

Meera learns from family members that Sophie is Geetika’s former lover. The next day, Meera questions Geetika about Sophie, but gets no answer. At the hospital, Geetika’s colleague, Simran from the HR department, shows her something shocking. Geetika tells Meera she can’t make it to the dinner, upsetting Meera. When Meera returns home angrily, Geetika informs her that the HR department received an anonymous complaint accusing Geetika of sexual predatory behavior, molestation, and misusing her medical position to inappropriately touch the alleged victim’s breast during an examination. Meera receives a job offer from a better hospital, Riverkings. Simran encourages Chapelstone employees to come forward if they know more about Geetika, and more social media posts and emails surface, accusing Geetika of violating medical morality and being a sexual predator.

The hospital board appoints a former journalist, Mr. Bhargav, to neutrally investigate the case, and Geetika is forcibly sent on paid leave. Bhargav’s inquiry begins, and he interviews Simran, Cooper, and others. Bhargav learns that a young intern named Natasha was previously in a relationship with Geetika. The adoption agency denies the application, which greatly saddens Meera. Geetika asks Natasha not to comment if questioned by the inquiry board. Geetika suspects a break-in at their house, leading to an argument with Meera. Later, Meera sees disturbing online allegations against Geetika and finds out that Geetika is lying about still working at the hospital. Bhargav questions Geetika about Natasha and the possible abuse of power. Meera finds an invitation from Sophie for Geetika and suspects cheating. Meera considers the Riverkings job offer and asks Angad to introduce her to a private investigator named Mansoor.

Bhargav meets Dr. Carol Simmons, who claims Geetika sexually harassed her in the past. We also see how Geetika publicly scolded Carol and suspended her for medical negligence. Carol also alleges that Geetika invited her to a hotel room with the wrong intentions. Meera and Angad meet Mansoor, who agrees to investigate the case discreetly. Geetika loses the dean position to Dr. Logan, a seemingly well-meaning colleague. Meera tells Geetika she wants to stay in London. Mansoor uses CCTV footage to confirm a break-in at Geetika and Meera’s house. Meera gets the Riverkings job, and Mansoor follows Sophie and Geetika. Sophie and Geetika meet the former’s brother, Mark, who hands them a file. Mansoor goes undercover at Sophie’s restaurant and sees Geetika hugging Sophie. Meera celebrates her new job with Angad and her cousin, Rohit. Mansoor follows Geetika and Sophie as they get into the same car.

Angad gives Meera Mansoor’s investigation files, and Geetika tells Meera that the anonymous emails are likely from a single person trying to frame her, a conclusion she reached with Mark’s help. Meera shows Geetika photos of her and Sophie being friendly, leading to an angry argument. Meera expresses her doubt about the truth, and distance grows between the couple. Geetika starts living elsewhere and struggles to have an honest conversation with Meera. Simran informs Bhargav that the eight different emails against Geetika originated from the same public library and café locations. Mansoor tells Meera that a man named David broke into their house, a fact Angad knew but didn’t share. Mansoor also suspects Sophie’s brother, Mark, the hacker, could be behind the anonymous emails. Carol Simmons prepares to give a statement to Bhargav.

Accused Ending: Is Geetika Guilty or Innocent? Who Framed Her?

Geetika’s fate rests on the testimony given by Carol Simmons to Simran and Bhargav at the hospital. Simran talks to Bhargav about the eight different emails and how they originate from the same locations, a public library and a café. This makes Bhargav wonder if someone is trying to frame Geetika. As Carol walks in to give her testimony, she seems unsure and scared about saying something that would put her in trouble. In an earlier conversation between Mansoor and Meera, it is revealed that a man named David broke into Meera and Geetika’s house and noted down details like the position of the wine cabinet and the color of the couch. The same details appear in the email that was sent to the hospital before the first complaint was registered against Geetika.

When Bhargav sits down to listen to Carol’s testimony, he is aware of these facts. When Bhargav asks Carol to be courageous and speak the truth, she hesitates. Bhargav also tells her that her statement will be handed over to law enforcement, and she will be treated as the primary victim. Simran informs Carol that the emails against Geetika, received by the hospital, are fake. Upon hearing this and realizing that she is alone in this scenario, Carol immediately gets up and requests permission to leave the room to collect her thoughts. She doesn’t return after this point, leaving Bhargav and Simran in doubt. Geetika tells Meera that Carol has withdrawn her complaint. Meera is happy hearing this, and Geetika thinks Carol was just trying to take advantage of the situation.

Meera hands over photos that show David breaking into the house. The two realize that David could be the way to find out the truth. Geetika goes by herself to the Sogo Club, where David works. Upon seeing Geetika, David runs in fear. Geetika chases David, who ultimately gives up after he starts coughing blood. Meera shows up in her car, after which she and Geetika take him to the hospital for emergency care. It is revealed that David is already registered at the hospital under the welfare program for gastric cancer. Geetika takes a look at David’s file and realizes something shocking. The next day, when Dr. Logan, the hospital’s dean, arrives, Geetika patiently waits for him by the elevator. She tells him that he forced David to register the fake anonymous complaints against Geetika in exchange for free cancer treatment.

Logan is stunned to see that Geetika has deciphered his secret. Logan is the mastermind behind Geetika’s framing, as he wanted to take the dean position that was offered to her. His decision is driven by greed and not due to a personal grudge against Geetika. The cops confiscate Logan’s laptop and take him into custody. Later, Logan confesses and admits his wrongdoings. At this point, Geetika is cleared of all charges, and her innocence is established. David also confesses to his role in the attempt to defame Geetika.

Logan takes such extreme steps because he believes no one else in the hospital is more deserving of the dean position than he is. Geetika is a dedicated doctor who became the victim of a malicious plan and almost lost her career. Despite everything that life throws at her, Geetika survives due to her self-belief and conviction.

Why Does Geetika Reject the Dean Position?

After her innocence is proven beyond any doubt, Geetika breathes a sigh of relief. At a later stage, she talks to Bhargav and Simran about the things that unfolded in the past few weeks. Geetika tells Bhargav that he, too, has biases against women, which led him to see the case through a misogynistic perspective. Geetika addresses how Bhargav targeted her gender, age, and potential promotion to the position of dean to form an image in his mind of who she is. Without saying much, Bhargav leaves the room, understanding that he is guilty of narrow thinking. After this, Simran informs Geetika that the hospital board has again offered her the position of dean. Initially, Geetika is extremely happy to hear that her dignity has been restored. Simran tells her that she deserves this.

Geetika realizes something about her own personality and shares her perspective with Simran. She admits that she was too ambitious in her medical career and used her authority to punish others too harshly. She feels guilty about attempting to control everything and forcibly trying to show misogynistic men like Logan that she was in charge. Her obsession with perfection led her to lose empathy and develop a superiority complex.

Geetika tells Simran that she has worked very hard to succeed, but ambition is what drove her to abuse her power. To escape this toxic influence of power, Geetika chooses not to accept the dean position. She embraces her humanity and desires peace. Geetika promises to work on herself and get better at handling power. Thus, her moral convictions and self-realization help her to make a difficult decision without hesitation.

Do Geetika and Meera Get Back Together? Why?

Meera and Geetika go through a turbulent phase in their relationship after the allegations come to light. Despite their best efforts to support each other, professional commitments and personal insecurities push them apart. Though they were on the verge of adopting a baby, life took them in other directions. At one point, Geetika starts living away from home, which only deepens the feeling of separation between the two. Meera feels guilty for living alone in the house when it actually belongs to Geetika. In another intense moment between the two, Geetika accuses Meera of choosing comfort over hard work. Things improve between the two when Meera helps Geetika handle David. Though Meera isn’t ready to stay together, she does this because it is morally right to do so.

Towards the end of the narrative, their relationship is at a crossroads. With her newfound self-realization and confidence, Geetika meets Meera to talk about their life. Geetika admits to Meera that she has always been self-centered and didn’t consider Meera’s feelings. She also appreciates Meera for always thinking about their shared happiness. Geetika apologizes for being unfair in the relationship and not showing empathy. Geetika tells Meera that she refused the dean position and wants to rebuild their relationship. Meera stays silent for a few seconds, but happily tells Geetika to accompany her on her trip to India. The two of them get emotional and warmly embrace. Ultimately, even after a dark phase, Geetika and Meera find love again.
