Adrienne Salinas: How Did She Die? Who Killed Her?

Adrienne Salinas was a 19-year-old community college student living in Tempe, Arizona. When she vanished all of a sudden after a party in the summer of 2013, shockwaves were sent across the entire community and college. The mysterious disappearance and the investigation that ensued are explored in a detailed manner in Investigation Discovery’s ‘People Magazine Investigates: Darkness In The Desert.’ The documentary also features interviews with Adrienne’s loved ones and the officials linked to the investigation.

Adrienne Salinas’ Remains Were Found About Two Months After Her Disappearance

Born on November 5, 1993, Adrienne Celeste Salinas was a bright, ambitious student at GateWay Community College in Tempe, Arizona. Described as a friendly, sweet, and compassionate individual, Adrienne lived with two roommates, Shainey Duggan and Rebecca Flores, on Hardy Drive and 5th Street in Tempe while attending college. At the time, she was in a romantic relationship with Francisco Arteaga, AKA Fran. In 2013, she underwent a lung surgery in order to receive treatment for valley fever, after which she was unable to go to her job. On the night of June 14, 2013, she helped her roommates throw a party at their shared home for a friend’s birthday. Although Adrienne was all dressed up for the occasion, her friends noticed she wasn’t in the mood to party.

As per her friends, she had a fight with her boyfriend, Fran, who had been talking to another girl throughout the night. The party continued until the early morning hours of the following day. By the end, the 19-year-old college student was nowhere to be seen. When she didn’t show up for a Father’s Day celebration on June 16, 2013, her father reported her missing. As the authorities searched for her, they located her abandoned car with two blown-out tires a few blocks away from her home on the morning of June 17. About two months after her disappearance, her remains were found in the Apache Junction desert behind a residence along State Route 88 on August 6, 2013. Since her remains had been mummified by the time they were discovered, the medical examiner could not determine the cause or manner of her death.

Adrienne Salinas’ Killer Remains on the Loose More Than a Decade Later

In the days that followed Adrienne Salinas’ disappearance, the authorities interviewed her roommates and her boyfriend several times. Her roommates claimed that they noticed Adrienne leaving the party early, seemingly after an argument with Fran. A short distance from her apartment, she was involved in a minor car accident. To talk with him, Adrienne reportedly headed to his house after texting him the same and calling a cab. While the cab driver waited for her at a nearby AM/PM convenience store to pick her up, she never showed up and couldn’t be reached on her phone.

As per her phone records, she vanished somewhere along Hardy Drive between 5th Street and University Drive. To get to the bottom of the mystery, the detectives located the cab driver, Tom Simon Jr., and put him under surveillance. On June 27, 2013, the detectives executed a search warrant of his cab and apartment. However, they couldn’t find any trace evidence connecting him to Adrienne’s murder. At some point, the investigators also looked into Bryan Patrick Miller, who was considered a possible suspect in the case. In 2015, he had been linked to the 1992 murder of 22-year-old Angela Brasso and 17-year-old Melanie Bernas. Given the accusations, one of his friends tipped the police to check if he could be involved in Adrienne’s case as well.

The friend claimed that he and Bryan were at another party a mile away from Adrienne’s house the same weekend she disappeared. The potential suspect also allegedly worked in the area where her remains were found. However, no DNA evidence linked him to Adrienne Salinas. Over the years, the authorities conducted hundreds of interviews and polygraph tests, but no suspects have been identified. In June 2025, the FBI offered a $20,000 reward for anyone who provided valuable information that led to the perpetrator.
