Netflix’s ‘Love Is Blind Brazil: Never Too Late’ explores how love and its meaning evolve as people grow older. Featuring contestants all over the age of 50, the fifth season presented a fresh perspective on romance rarely seen on reality television. It highlighted that love is not bound by age and can still be exciting and deeply meaningful later in life. Among the standout couples were Aide Torres and Edmilson Assis, whose journey resonated with viewers. Their ability to handle challenges with grace and maturity was widely appreciated, and it showed that love after 50 can be just as passionate and fulfilling.
Aide and Edmilson Did Not Hesitate to Say Yes at the Altar
Aide Torres had always loved the feeling of being in love, and she wanted to experience it once more. But this time, she wanted to do it with the maturity and self-awareness that life had taught her. When she first heard Edmilson Assis’ voice in the pods, she felt an instant pull toward him. Aide opened up about her life and shared that she had three children, one biological and two through what she called “emotional sponsorship.” Edmilson was very impressed with that, and he realized that she was a very different person from the rest. The attraction between them was undeniable. At one point, Aide asked Edmilson whether physical appearance mattered to him. His answer was that what truly mattered was looking at her and feeling like he had known her forever, which touched her deeply.
When Edmilson proposed, Aide said yes without hesitation. The moment they saw each other for the first time outside the pods, sparks flew. Their connection only grew stronger as they spent their honeymoon together, using the four days to build intimacy and build the love that had been simmering. For the couple, life outside the show with friends, family, and phones didn’t create much tension. In fact, Aide admitted to her friends that she felt a little bad they weren’t having as much fun as she was, since she was enjoying every moment of her new relationship.
When she suggested they meet each other’s friends, Edmilson preferred a more relaxed approach and didn’t want it to feel forced. When he eventually did meet them, he felt somewhat interrogated and had to carefully sidestep their questions. Aide later shared that Edmilson was a bit more polished and structured than her easygoing friends. Despite a few small clashes, like Aide feeling he was unnecessarily pushing her in the gym, things went smoothly for them. He told her she worked a lot, and she admitted that she would have to compartmentalize her time better. Thus, when they met at the altar, they had no doubts in their minds. They said “I do” and promised to start a life together.
Aide and Edmilson’s Marriage Did Not Last in the Real World
Aide and Edmilson initially felt aligned in their relationship, believing they were on the same page. However, differences soon began to emerge. Edmilson noted that their contrasting personalities made it difficult for things to work out between them. Aide, on the other hand, felt there were no irreconcilable issues, but communication was lacking. She explained that discussions often escalated, with Edmilson resorting to yelling, leaving her uncertain about whether staying in the relationship would require her to be submissive. Edmilson described himself as someone who dislikes drama and tends to analyze the relationship, while Aide often tried to set the tone for their daily interactions.
Despite the challenges, they acknowledged that their relationship had positive aspects, but the dynamics created tension. Both confirmed that the last time they saw each other was at the registry office, and they have had no contact since then. The experience left them reflecting on their differences and the ways in which communication, personality clashes, and differing expectations can shape the outcome of a relationship, ultimately leading them to go their separate ways.
Aide is an Advocate for LGBTQ+ Rights, and Edmilson is a Creative at Heart
Aide Torres has embraced life with the same energy and openness that she brought to the pods. Professionally, she works as an Audience Development Specialist, a role that allows her to connect with communities and foster engagement through creative initiatives. Outside of work, Aide is passionate about health and wellness, often attending Pilates classes to stay active and fit. She is also a proud member of Mothers for Diversity, where she advocates for LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity, using her platform to support causes close to her heart.
Edmilson Assis continues to work in the creative field as an event producer. He is crafting cultural and artistic experiences that bring people together. He is based in São Paulo, Brazil, and currently works with Amigos da Arte, an organization that promotes artistic expression and community events. While Edmilson has never been married, he is a devoted father to two children of the same age, born to different mothers, and he remains present in their lives.
