Breaking barriers in combat sports has never been just about winning fights, but also about rewriting the rules of how one is represented. For decades, female athletes have trained and competed in gear not made for them. That is the problem that Alchemize Fightwear aims to solve. Their products are designed and tested by female fighters, keeping empowerment and resilience in mind. They use high-performance fabrics and are tailored for the female form. Season 17 episode 4 of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ provided the founder with a platform to bring the combat gear for women to national attention.
Alchemize Fightwear: Who Are They and What Do They Do?
Alchemize Fightwear has been created from a blend of innovation and empowerment by the founder and CEO, Maya Nazareth. Before building the brand, she was focused on completing her academic journey. After studying at Mount Olive High School until 2015, she graduated from The International School of Kuala Lumpur in 2016. She then enrolled at the University of Delaware to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Business. During college, Maya broadened her horizons through International Business Studies at John Cabot University during a semester abroad in 2016 and a subsequent semester at Universidad LCI Veritas, where she also studied Spanish along with International Business. She eventually graduated from the University of Delaware in 2020.
From January to May 2021, Maya was affiliated with the startup accelerator program, Launch! Annapolis. Her entrepreneurial spirit even led her to become a Tory Burch Fellow at the Burch Foundation from June 2024 to June 2025. However, Maya’s career began in May 2017 as a Peace Corps Campus Ambassador and a Customer Success Intern at Inkbench. While she left the Peace Corps in May 2018, she moved on from her role at Inkbench in January 2020. Meanwhile, she also worked at Earth Heir as a Marketing Intern from June to August 2019. Following that, Maya became an English Teacher at Italki and shortly after, in September 2020, she stepped into the role of Brand Manager at the Ascendant Group. She left both these positions in November 2020 and 2021, respectively.
While working in those roles, Maya developed the concept of Alchemize Fightwear. As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, she noticed a lack of well-fitting, functional fightwear for women in the market. Since training in ill-fitting gear restricts movement, it inspired her to create something better. Ultimately, Maya founded Alchemize Fightwear in January 2021. By August 22, 2023, the brand received a grant of $5,000. She was also featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 List. According to Forbes, her brand recently successfully closed a $1 million seed round with a valuation of $5 million. Each piece of their gear is crafted and carefully designed by female athletes for women’s bodies.
Alchemize Fightwear’s products are crafted with reinforced stress zones, adjustable cuts, and durable fabrics that withstand pressure. They are also known for their flexibility and for providing training comfort. The product lineup usually includes rash guards, singlets, Gis, and lounge pieces. These contain high necklines, ergonomic seams, and curve-hugging fits for unrestricted movement. The brand’s fabrics are made with spandex and polyester, making them breathable and lightweight. The material keeps the fighters cool and dry, and is machine washable with a low tumble dry setting. With squat-proof coverage and some designs featuring built-in sports bras, the brand ensures performance meets confidence.
