The second season of Prime Video’s ‘The Night Manager‘ throws Jonathan Pine into another mission concerning an arms dealer, named Teddy Dos Santos, bringing back the ghosts from his past. He discovers that Teddy has collaborated with some powerful British people for a trade of weapons. The shipment is due to leave Cartagena, but since Jonathan and his colleague, Sally, need more time to get into the heart of Teddy’s operation, they need some help. This is where Alejandro Gualteros comes into the picture. The prosecutor has been trying to stop the criminals and save his city and country from being plunged into further chaos. But there is only so much that a lone soldier can do. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Alejandro Gualteros Pays the Price of Trusting a Wrong Man
When Jonathan Pine discovers that Teddy’s shipment in Cartagena holds illegal British weapons which will be used for nefarious schemes, he turns towards the country’s justice system to slow down Teddy’s progress. The only person who is willing to do that is Alejandro Gualteros. He has already impounded the shipment, and Teddy has been trying to find ways to release it. He tried to bribe Alejandro, but the man is too idealistic to give up his morals for money. He has also frozen Teddy’s accounts, which is what allows Jonathan to come into the picture as Andrew Birch, an investor from Hong Kong with money to burn. Despite the prosecutor’s best efforts, the system is working against him, and he is being pressurised to release the shipment.

Alejandro is also fearful for his life. When the bribe didn’t work, Teddy turned to intimidation. He has a man follow Alejandro 24/7, convincing the prosecutor that if he doesn’t release the shipment and Teddy’s accounts, he will have to lose his life. His fears are not unfounded, but this is exactly what Teddy plans to do. When Alejandro dies, a new person will come into the picture, and Teddy can bribe or intimidate them to get what he wants. Fortunately for the prosecutor, Pine and Sally reach out to him. They tell him not to give up. He is given a picture of what’s really in the shipment to highlight the severity of the matter. At the end of the day, however, Alejandro confesses that there is only so much he can do without proof of foul play.
Alejandro asks for the list of the ship’s contents. After taking a huge personal risk, Roxana finds a way to get those documents, but Alejandro is still being watched. So, Sally creates a distraction that allows the prosecutor to slip away. He meets Jonathan at a hotel, where he gets the document and reveals that he trusts a Supreme Court justice to seize the shipment for good. He calls her office, and her secretary picks up. Instead of letting Alejandro talk to her, the secretary asks him why he wants to speak with her. This is where the prosecutor makes a major mistake. He tells the secretary about the document and how important it is for his boss to see it. The secretary promises to tell his boss, but Alejandro realises a bit too late that his real boss is not the good Supreme Court justice but Teddy’s lawyer, Juan.
Alejandro’s Tragic Fate Marks Alberto Ammann’s Exit From The Night Manager
When Juan finds out that Alejandro called the Supreme Court justice’s office to give her the shipping documents, he relays the information to Teddy, along with the fact that the only person who could have had the opportunity to steal them is Roxana. Before dealing with her, it is important to stop Alejandro, so they get the secretary to call him for a meeting in the Supreme Court building. The prosecutor has no idea he is walking into a trap, and even though Pine accompanies him, he is not able to enter the building with him. In the midst of this, Roxana finds a way to warn Pine, telling him to cancel his plans. By then, however, it is already too late. When Alejandro walks into the meeting, he is confronted by the men who are in cahoots with Teddy.

They make the prosecutor give up the documents, and when they ask him about his source, he refuses to give them up. So, they send him away. Pine’s efforts to enter the building and rescue Alejandro fail, and he notices him being brought out from the back of the building, where he is shoved into a car and driven away. Pine follows the car on a motorbike, but by the time he reaches the place, it is already too late. Alejandro is taken to a desolate spot where he is brought out of the car to face Teddy. Teddy tells him that he should have just accepted the bribe, and when Alejandro asks him what he stands for, Teddy decides not to beat around the bush and shoots him in the head, bringing the story of the honest and brave prosecutor to an end, which wasn’t entirely unexpected to him.
