Alex and Amanda: Where Are Is It Cake? Valentines Contestants Now?

As a baking competition wherein both the participants and the judges are couples, Netflix’s ‘Is It Cake? Valentines’ is a special edition of the show that globally popularized hyperrealistic confections. It follows three forever pairs as they create a masterpiece representing a key moment in their romance in an effort to trick celebrity judges and hopefully even walk away with significant grand prizes. Unfortunately, Amanda and Alex Rivera could not fool them as well as they had expected, resulting in their elimination after round 1, but they still had a blast as they were able to work together.

Alex and Amanda Rivera Essentially Recreated Their Proposal On the Show

From the moment Amanda and Alex Rivera came across our screens, they made it clear they love working together and have actually found a way to perfectly balance their personal and professional lives. After all, they are business partners who have long been operating their custom bakery, are a married couple who tied the knot 3 years ago, and are proud parents to a little 2½-year-old daughter. They had realized early in their love story that their goals were the same, so it made sense for them to pursue them hand in hand, which in turn also taught them how to handle conflict quickly.

Therefore, once Amanda and Alex stepped foot into the ‘Is It Cake?’ studio, they fell into their regular routine without any issues and got to creating a velvet pillow with a magic lamp sitting atop it. These props are what he had used to propose to his Disney-loving, Aladdin-obsessed wife – he had placed the ring inside the lamp and called her his Jasmine while on one knee – so they tried recreating the magic. The couple even made a candy ring from scratch to place inside their cake lamp, but because their cake’s proportions were a bit bigger than the decoys’, the judges were able to guess the fake.

Alex and Amanda Rivera Are Deeply Family Oriented

While baker Alex is a graduate of the esteemed Culinary Institute of America (CIA), business-minded Amanda graduated from the State University of New York with a 4.0 GPA in the summer of 2018. From what we can tell, the duo first met in the late 2010s by pure chance and soon fell head over heels upon realizing they had a lot in common beyond their shared values as well as Puerto Rican roots. They made their relationship Instagram official in early 2018 by sharing a carousel of photos from their trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, long before sharing the news of their engagement in April 2019.

Amanda and Alex tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony on November 4, 2022, and she later admitted in an Instagram post that he is much more than the man of her dreams and her soulmate. The Halloween enthusiast penned, in part, “I am not exaggerating when I say you are my everything – my soulmate, my partner, my best friend, my heart… You have my heart forever and always. I’m honored to be your wife, and you chose me to love for the rest of our lives.”

Less than a year later, in August 2023, Amanda and Alex blissfully welcomed a little girl into their world, whom they named Isabela Rivera, making their family feel a lot closer to complete. After all, the couple has seemingly always wanted to raise a tight-knit family, having absorbed a lot of love, light, and heart from their own parents, grandparents, siblings, as well as other loved ones. Since they have had great experiences and maintain close connections with all of them to this day, they hope to carry on the legacy as long as possible.

Alex and Amanda Rivera Proudly Run Their Business in New Jersey

It was before Amanda and Alex had even married that they established a custom cake business in their home state of New Jersey called Drizzle by Snacks, focusing on 3D, artistic, hyperrealistic bakes. They have since rebranded as A Couple of Layers, playing up the fact that they are a happily married duo raising a tiny sous-chef and creating truly unique, layered cakes along the way. While the former has always been the co-founder as well as manager of their upscale brand, the latter is the co-founder, primary baker, and recipe developer.

In a 2022 interview with Sessi. Dancing Corners, Alex had revealed that he and his now-wife have been able to work together thanks to their open and honest communication. To this, Amanda added, “It’s patience and understanding in our both relationships – love and business alike.” As for how they brainstorm ideas, they admitted they have a cake room for such discussions and are “really good at bouncing ideas off of each other.” Amanda also said, “Alex may think of something I haven’t thought of before, and then that idea may inspire me to think of something else, and so on and so forth. It can be really exciting thinking of the many ways we can make this cake look awesome.” That’s how they have been able to do wonders in the business, and it seems like this remains their strategy to this day.
