Alien Earth: Is Prodigy Neverland Research Island a Real Place?

In FX’s ‘Alien: Earth,’ a deep-space research ship crashes into Earth, bringing a host of problems for humans as a dangerous alien species comes into the picture. The story revolves around a girl named Wendy, who is a hybrid with human consciousness in the body of a synth. She owes her existence to a company called Prodigy, owned by a trillionaire named Boy Kavalier, who has his own research facility on an island called Prodigy “Neverland” Research Island, which serves as a major location in the story. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The Neverland Research Island in Alien: Earth is Brought to Life by Real Locations

The events of ‘Alien: Earth’ take place well into the 22nd century, where humans have invented the technology that has allowed them to venture into deep space and encounter other life forms. As such, all the characters and corporations depicted in it are entirely fictional, which means that Prodigy’s Neverland Research facility is also made-up. However, this location, which is critical to the story, is brought to life on a mix of real and set locations in Thailand. One of the major locations used to depict Neverland is the province of Phang Nga in Thailand. Particularly, the crew turned towards the Ao Phang-Nga National Park in the Phang Nga Bay to lens scenes that give the audience a general view of where the island is located and what environment the characters live in.

In the pilot episode, we find Wendy sitting on the rock formation and admiring the view in front of her. This is most likely the 20m-tall rock structure called Ko Tapu, though the show likely presents it with a different perspective and a little bit of tinkering. Additionally, the crew also turned towards several locations in Surat Thani and Krabi to give a more detailed look to Neverland. While the exteriors were filmed in real-life picturesque locations of Thailand, the interior scenes were filmed on set. The Studio Park Thailand, located at 999 Moo 3, Bang Bo, Bang Bo District, in Samut Prakan, Thailand, was used to create sets that presented different locations in the show. Most likely, the crew created the labs of Neverland at the studios.

With the mix of different locations, the island of Neverland is brought to life, and the show’s creators give it a touch that is likely to remind the audience of the Neverland from Peter Pan’s story. The use of Thailand as the primary filming location also makes sense in the context of the story, as most of the story takes place in New Siam, the futuristic city of Thailand, which is now under the control of Boy Kavalier’s company, Prodigy. Since he basically owns the city, it makes sense that his island would be nearby, which makes locations across Thailand the most logical choice for the filming location and makes it seem more realistic in terms of the story’s location and plot.
