Aly Dominique, Alexander Exama, Joseph Moise, and Marvin Gedin: Where Are the Convicts Now?

In the episode titled ‘Dr. Deception’ of Investigation Discovery’s ‘Married With Secrets,’ the primary focus is on the accidental hit-and-run death of Dr. Jean-Claude Dominique and how it led to the shooting attempt at his wife, Eliette Dominique, outside her Long Island home in October 2000. The detectives didn’t take long to connect her brother-in-law, Aly Dominique, to the crime as his hired accomplices — Alexander Exama, Joseph Moise, and Marvin Gedin — gave him up.

Aly Dominique Hired Alexander Exama, Joseph Moise, and Marvin Gedin to Eliminate Eliette Dominique

Born on April 27, 1956, in Haiti, Aly Dominique is one of 23 siblings, including his older brother, Dr. Jean-Claude Dominique. Following in his elder brother’s footsteps, Aly also moved to New York City, where he taught chemistry at a high school. He also reportedly served as a soccer coach. Meanwhile, Jean-Claude was a successful physician at Brooklyn’s Interfaith Medical Center. Aly regularly visited his brother’s residence, which he shared with Eliette and their kids, Jean-Claude Jr. and Rachel. It is alleged that he knew about the physician’s second marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Marie Betsy Barlabier, who was also Aly’s business partner. Jean-Claude’s double life unraveled after he was involved in an accident on March 22, 1999, and passed away after 39 days.

Eliette Dominique

After Eliette was ruled the legal widow, ahead of Betsy, she was granted access and control over her late husband’s estate. However, Aly believed that Betsy was the rightful heir to the estate, allegedly to have some control over it through her. His animosity towards Eliette intensified to the point that he didn’t involve or invite her to the funeral event, for which $30,000 were spent. In the following months, Aly reportedly began orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot to get Eliette killed so as to gain control of his brother’s estate. As per investigative reports, he hired Joseph Moise, Marvin Gedin, and Alexander Exama to carry out the murder. According to trial testimony, when Joseph backed out of driving the hitmen to Eliette’s Long Island residence, Aly took over as the getaway driver himself.

Around 5:25 am on October 30, 2000, Marvin and Alexander ambushed Eliette right outside her home as she was leaving for work. Although she was hit twice in the head and once in the hand, she managed to get back inside the house. After the police were called by her two children, she was hospitalized and survived the shooting. The detectives talked to Eliette and asked whether she had any suspicions, and that’s when she told them about the heated dispute she was in with Aly. Within 24 hours of the incident, the police interviewed Alexander and Joseph, both of whom were quick to point to Aly as the mastermind behind the attack. Not long after Joseph’s confession, the police tracked down Aly Dominique and arrested him. According to police reports, during his questioning, Aly accused Eliette of being responsible for Jean-Claude’s accident, likely to deflect blame. Later, all four individuals were arrested for the attempted murder of Eliette.

Aly, Alexander, Joseph, and Marvin Appear to Be Out of Prison and Staying Out of the Limelight

More than a year later, in February 2002, Aly Dominique stood trial for his involvement in the attempted murder of Eliette Dominique. During the trial, he defended himself by claiming that the authorities had framed him. The prosecution told the jury that the defendant was the orchestrator behind Eliette’s shooting, with his motive being able to access his late brother’s estate. Ultimately, he was found guilty of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree conspiracy to commit murder. As per court records, Aly was sentenced to 25 years for the attempted murder charge and a concurrent 8 1/3 to 25 years for the conspiracy charge.

Meanwhile, his accomplices, Alexander Exama and Mavin Gedin, pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder and received 12 years and 19 years in prison, respectively. The fourth individual, Joseph Moise, served as a key prosecution witness after pleading guilty to attempted criminal facilitation in the second degree. He was also sentenced to one year in prison for his involvement in the crime. Aly Dominique was reportedly released from prison in March 2022; the 70-year-old is likely leading a private life as of today. From what we can tell, the other three accomplices have also been released after serving time.
