In November 2023, Amecil Floyd was quite happy to celebrate Thanksgiving with her family, especially her proud transgender daughter, Shandon Tymiere Floyd. However, she never imagined it would be the last time she saw her, as Shandon went missing soon after. In less than a week, her remains were discovered in a car, a few miles away from where she was staying with her friends. Netflix’s ‘Missing: Dead or Alive?’ delves deeper into the investigation that followed after the 20-year-old was reported missing. It also features information on how, eventually, no criminal charges were filed since authorities found that there was no foul play involved.
Amecil Floyd Was Devastated When She Lost Shandon Forever After She Went Missing
Amecil Floyd was overcome with joy when she gave birth to her son, Shandon Tymiere Floyd, who was assigned male at birth on December 27, 2002. According to Amecil, Shandon grew up to be a warm-hearted person who was always kind to others. When she came out to Amecil about her sexuality as a transgender woman, her mother provided her with immeasurable support. In 2023, just like any other year, Shandon spent her time with her family before heading out to Columbia, South Carolina. Upon arriving, she stayed at a hotel with her friends, including Michael Eaddy. Around 3 am on November 9, Shandon left for a store in Michael’s car. However, her friend grew concerned when she didn’t return even after almost 13 hours had passed. Being unable to reach her, Michael called 911 to report her missing.

As the investigation progressed, multiple CCTV footage from the hotel surfaced, revealing a man leaving with Shandon in the same car on the night she was last seen. According to reports, Shandon had a credit card belonging to one of her grandparents. As the credit card was used after she went missing, officials tracked the transaction back to a gas station, where the camera captured another woman trying to use the card. On November 14, 2023, detectives finally discovered Shandon’s remains in the car she borrowed just off Two Notch Road. However, as per official records, the autopsy revealed that there was no foul play involved in her death. Additionally, on the show, the officials stated that her cause of death was determined to be a drug overdose. Ultimately, Shandon’s death was ruled as not a homicide, and all the persons of interest were cleared of criminal charges.
Amecil Floyd Continued Her Search for Truth Amid Her Unimaginable Loss
When Amecil realized that Shandon was missing, she left no stone unturned to search for her daughter and urged the authorities to find her. She pleaded, “I want my baby, I just want my baby home, I want somebody to help me find my baby, I’ve been begging since Wednesday, please somebody help me find my baby.” However, her world came crashing down when Amecil discovered that Shandon had passed away. While expressing her grief at the profound loss, she said, “When my baby left me Thursday, I never thought that it would be the last time I would see my baby alive.” What further broke Amecil was when the officials revealed that Shandon had passed away from a drug overdose.
Amecil wasn’t willing to accept that her daughter would do something like that. While crying, she insisted, “Oh baby, baby, baby, you can never say what your child won’t do, but I know that wasn’t my baby.” According to reports, Amecil and several of her family members believed that Shandon was killed. While speaking on that matter, she stated, “It was a hate crime. It was a hate crime. I shouldn’t have to bury my child. My child was supposed to bury me. And it hurts. It hurts me so bad. Oh God help me. Help me, Jesus.” Despite the best efforts, Amecil had to move on, holding the memories of her daughter close to her heart.
