Ana de Armas and Jennifer Connelly will arrive at the Spanish capital next month for their next drama series together. Principal photography for ‘Safe House,’ a fast-paced international espionage thriller show from Apple TV+, will take place in Madrid, Spain, between March and August this year. Gideon Raff and Otto Bathurst will direct, based on a story by Raff.

The eight-episode story, adapted from former reporter Dan Fesperman’s novel, is set in the aftermath of the killing of a high-ranking CIA officer in Madrid. It follows Sofia Jiménez (de Armas), a fugitive agent accused of the killing, and Ambassador Elizabeth Winthrop (Connelly), his widow, as they each investigate the murder from opposite sides, unraveling a vast conspiracy that could upend the balance of global power.
Ana de Armas’s most notable performances include Norma Jeane, AKA Marilyn Monroe, in ‘Blonde,’ Melinda in the erotic thriller ‘Deep Water,’ Paloma in the James Bond movie ‘No Time to Die,’ the holographic AI Joi in ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ and Bel in the crime thriller ‘Knock Knock.’ We last saw her as Eve in the John-Wick spin-off movie ‘Ballerina’ and as Baroness Eloise Bosquet de Wagner in ‘Eden,’ based on the true story of the Europeans who settled on the isolated Floreana Island right before World War II. Among her other upcoming projects are ‘Bananas,’ another Apple TV+ drama series co-starring Oscar Isaac, which will unfold in a politically and economically unstable part of Central America, and Doug Liman’s ‘Deeper,’ a sci-fi horror movie also starring Tom Cruise. It follows a former astronaut who meets a woman, long believed dead, at the bottom of he deepest and darkest point on Earth, the Ni’hil Trench.
Veteran actress Jennifer Connelly has lately featured in the TV shows ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘Dark Matter.’ Before that, we saw her as Lucy in Alice Englert’s dark comedy ‘Bad Behaviour,’ Penny in ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ and Chiren in ‘Alita: Battle Angel.’ Her fans will recognize her as Betty Ross from ‘Hulk,’ Sarah Williams from ‘Labyrinth,’ and Marion Silver in ‘Requiem for a Dream.’
Madrid served as the filming base for shows like ‘Money Heist,’ ‘Billionaires’ Bunker,’ ‘Elite,’ and ‘The Boarding School.’
