The second season of Prime Video’s ‘The Night Manager’ comes to an explosive end with its sixth episode, which leads to some increasingly shocking turns. One of the things that catches the audience off guard is the fate of Olivia Colman’s Angela Burr. Despite being a major presence in the first season, she was pushed into the background in the second one. That, however, does not make her any less important, and with what happens in the final moments of the season, it becomes clear that she will remain a major influence in the story. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Angela Burr’s Investigation Sets the Stage for Her Tragic Fate
While Jonathan Pine chases after Richard Roper in Colombia, Angela Burr conducts her own investigation into the matter. She had tried to uncover the greater conspiracy involving Roper and the British intelligence, but when Roper threatened her, and she was iced out by her own people, she decided to take a step back and decided to retire to France. That’s where she remained until Pine reached out to her, revealing he’d found out about Roper being alive. With Pine back on the case, Burr thought she could restart her investigation, and maybe this time, she could succeed in nabbing the bad guys. So, while he tried to get evidence in Colombia, Burr returned home, especially after she got a call from Basil, revealing that his cover was blown and he had been taken away.

Before disappearing and getting killed, Basil leaves a packet with all the info he has collected so far for Angela, and she diligently looks into it. With Pine and his team almost getting the illegal shipment confiscated by the attorney general in Colombia, Angela confronts Mayra about her role in the whole corruption and conspiracy. It seems she has finally done what she’d set out to do all those years ago, but Roper turns out to be one step ahead, and Pine and Angela’s plans are thwarted, leaving both of them in a very tricky situation. While Pine and his friends fight for their lives in the forests of Colombia, Burr receives a threat from Mayra, who gloats about her victory and says she will visit Burr in France.
Considering that Burr came close enough to unraveling the whole thing and exposing Mayra and the others, it makes sense that the villains would want her gone. And that’s exactly what they do. An unnamed assassin is sent to kill her, and later, her young daughter finds her dead body in their house. Burr is shot in the head, and there is no way she can be patched up from that wound. With this, her arc in ‘The Night Manager’ comes to an end, and this is most likely the last we will see of Olivia Colman, unless the next season uses flashbacks to show us what Burt was up to in London.
Angela Burr Will Continue to Have a Major Influence in The Night Manager Season 3
Angela Burr had been an influential figure in Jonathan Pine’s story since the first season. So, to have her completely disappear from his life in the third season doesn’t seem fair. Because he had been so attached to her, despite being angry with her for lying about Roper, her death is going to hit him hard. Pine has already lost a couple of friends, including Martin, as well as Teddy, so to discover that Burr has also been killed in the fight against Roper would be a major blow to him. This would propel him to go after Roper even harder and to bring him down once and for all. But for that, he will have to unravel the deeper conspiracy in the government, which Burr came close to uncovering.

Before she is shot dead, we find Burr recording a message where she reveals that she has discovered that the conspiracy runs deeper than initially imagined, and she has found a name connected to it. Since Pine already knows about Mayra, we can expect that Burr is talking about someone who is much higher on the command chain. There is a chance that Basil found out about it in his investigation, or he came close enough to leave the breadcrumbs that led Burr right to the target. In her last words, she is about to share that information on a recorded message, but the audience never gets to hear the name. It is quite likely that the message was intended for Pine, and that one way or another, it will find its way to him. Thus, even in death, Burr may have helped Pine defeat the enemy that has been a thorn on both of their sides for a very long time.
