Does Panchito the Dog Die in Angela?

In ‘Angela,’ the titular character finds herself in an unfathomable situation when one fateful meeting brings her entire sense of reality crashing down around her. Angela’s marriage with Gonzalo had taken an abusive turn a long time ago. Still, for a multitude of reasons, including their daughters’ future, she stays in the relationship. That is, until a stranger enters her life, introducing himself as Eduardo Silva, a man who claims to have been hired by the husband to kill his wife. However, once Angela allows his warnings to bring her to the brink of a paranoia-fuelled near-violent confrontation with Gonzalo, Edu vanishes from existence, bringing the woman’s mental faculties into question. Part of the reason why the authorities suspect her of imagining the entire thing stems from her mother’s medical history as a patient who deals with schizophrenia. As a result of her condition, her own beloved dog, Panchito, remains in the line of possible danger. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Panchito Survives a Car Accident

Angela’s mother lives in a quiet and quaint house with Mirabel and their newly adopted dog, Panchito. The older woman keeps the canine close to her heart, treating him as a beloved family member of the house. As a result, she’s mindful of his safety and health. That is, until the unthinkable happens in her daughter’s life. Following Angela’s confrontation with Gonzalo, which involved serious accusations and a harpoon gun, the mother of two understandably gets arrested. Furthermore, she gets put in a mental health facility when the authorities have reason to believe she has hallucinated an assassination attempt in her life based on a crime thriller novel from her shelves.

While all of this happens, Gonzalo, who has never been very close to his wife’s family, fails to update her mother on the entire messy situation. Consequently, the older woman grows worried when her daughter suddenly stops visiting without any rhyme or reason. For the same reason, she ends up letting Panchito off the leash, allowing him outside of the house in the hopes that the smart dog’s sharp nose will be able to track Angela down. However, tragedy strikes when the canine ends up in an automobile accident. Even though the accident leaves him injured, particularly in the front paw, Angela’s mother and Mirabel are able to get him medical help in the nick of time.

In the coming days, Panchito recovers at a pet hospital, regaining strength and learning to walk again. Eventually, by the time the chaos of Angela’s life settles down, the dog recovers enough to reunite with his family at the mother’s house. Surprisingly enough, during his brief recovery vacation, the dog inadvertently earns three new roommates: Angela and her two daughters, Maia and Irati. In the aftermath of the brutal confrontation with Gonzala, wherein Angela proved his deceit and abuse, the family is now finally free of his manipulative clutches. Thus, they decide to stay with Angela’s mother as they get back on their feet. Consequently, Panchito gets to hang out with two new eager and energetic friends who are more than happy to play with him in the yard.
