Helmed by Dave Green, ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ takes place in a world where cartoon characters coexist among humans. The narrative follows Wile E. Coyote, who is in a state of crisis after many ACME products repeatedly fail him during his pursuit of the Road Runner. Tired of being the victim of countless explosions, crashes, traps, and other disasters, Coyote decides to fight back by taking ACME to court. He joins forces with Kevin Avery (Will Forte), a local personal injury lawyer who agrees to represent him against the powerful company. Their case becomes even more complicated when Kevin discovers that his former intimidating boss, Buddy Crane (John Cena), is now ACME’s corporate counsel.
As Coyote and Kevin take on the conglomerate, their unlikely partnership goes through unexpected twists. The live-action comedy film with animated beings is based on Ian Frazier’s New Yorker article ‘Coyote v. Acme,’ and also includes elements from the Looney Tunes cartoons. These animated movies, similar to ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ explore unique worlds and unlikely scenarios, while also featuring quirky characters that will keep you entertained.
8. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004)
‘The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie’ centers on a dangerous mission that takes SpongeBob SquarePants far beyond Bikini Bottom. When Mr. Krabs, a burger joint owner, is falsely accused of stealing the crown of King Neptune, SpongeBob and his best friend, Patrick Star, set out to clear his name. The adventure comedy film from director Stephen Hillenburg is based on the TV series ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ that he created. ‘The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie’ depicts the friendship between SpongeBob and Patrick, while ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ brings Wile E. Coyote together with Kevin Avery, creating an unlikely partnership between unique characters in both cases.
7. The Bad Guys (2022)
‘The Bad Guys’ deals with a group of notorious criminals who are forced to rethink their lives after their latest crimes catch up with them. Led by Mr. Wolf, the gang includes Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula, who have built a reputation for successfully carrying out heists. After the group is captured, they must choose between participating in a rehabilitation program or facing prison. Under the guidance of Professor Marmalade, the criminals attempt to convince the public that they are becoming respectable citizens.
As they go through the program, however, the experience forces them to come to terms with their views on things and what they are capable of becoming. Crafted under the direction of Pierre Perifel, the crime comedy film is loosely based on Aaron Blabey’s children’s book series of the same title. Along the lines of ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ the narrative features characters battling their circumstances in chaotic ways. The criminals are forced to change after being captured, while Coyote decides to fight back against ACME after repeatedly suffering from its products.
6. The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
Director Mark Dindal’s ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ is a comedy film that follows Emperor Kuzco, a ruler so lost in his glory that he is determined to build a water park for himself despite the destruction it would cause to a village. His ambitions are disrupted when his former advisor Yzma attempts to take control of the kingdom, but the scheme accidentally transforms Kuzco into a llama. Separated from his palace and left far from home, Kuzco finds himself dependent on Pacha, a villager whose home is threatened by the water park plans.
Once Pacha discovers the llama’s true identity, he agrees to help Kuzco return to the throne on the condition that the emperor changes his policy regarding the water park and the village. Kuzco’s plans create a conflict with Pacha, while Coyote and Kevin take on a powerful corporation in ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ thus placing humble characters in conflict with much larger forces.
5. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)
In ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,’ Flint Lockwood is an inventor whose creations rarely work, but he hopes his latest invention can save his struggling hometown of Swallow Falls, which is reeling from a food shortage. Flint creates a machine that turns water into food, and when it reaches the atmosphere, food begins to fall from the sky, making Flint a local hero. However, the invention soon starts producing food in dangerous amounts, while the town’s mayor encourages Flint to ignore the warning signs. While Swallow Falls is buried under giant piles of food, Flint realizes that his invention has gotten out of control and must find a way to stop it.
Penned and helmed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the sci-fi comedy film is loosely based on Judi and Ron Barrett’s eponymous children’s book. ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ and ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ revolve around characters dealing with situations that repeatedly spiral out of control. Flint’s invention eventually threatens his entire town, while Coyote suffers a long series of disastrous consequences from ACME products.
4. The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)
A family road trip turns into an unexpected fight for humanity in ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines,’ a sci-fi comedy film crafted under the direction of Mike Rianda and Jeff Rowe. Katie Mitchell is thrilled after being accepted into a prestigious film school and looks forward to leaving home to pursue her dreams. Her plans change when her father, Rick Mitchell, organizes a cross-country trip so the family can spend time together before she leaves. Along with her mother, Linda Mitchell, Katie’s younger brother, Aaron Mitchell, and their dog Monchi, they set out on the journey.
However, everything changes when electronic devices come to life and launch a worldwide uprising against humanity. With two friendly robots joining them, the dysfunctional family must overcome their differences to save the world from the machines. ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ and ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ put characters in conflict with forces much more powerful than themselves. The Mitchells face a worldwide technological uprising, while Coyote and Kevin take on a powerful corporation, connecting the two journeys on a thematic level.
3. The Lego Movie (2014)
‘The Lego Movie’ or ‘The LEGO Movie’ is the saga of an ordinary construction worker who unexpectedly becomes the key to stopping a powerful businessman. Emmet Brickowski is a humble construction worker living in a world made entirely of LEGO bricks when he discovers a brick capable of stopping the powerful weapon Kragle. After being mistakenly identified as the prophesied savior, Emmet is drawn into a resistance movement opposing Lord Business, an authoritarian businessman determined to conquer the world.
Emmet joins Wyldstyle and a group of strangers on their mission, despite having little idea how to become the hero they believe him to be. The adventure comedy film is written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and is based on the LEGO construction toy line. Much like Coyote in ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ Emmet must overcome his own lack of confidence and deal with unexpected chaos to find a way to contribute to a mission that affects more than just him.
2. Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Set in 1940s LA, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ unfolds in a world where humans and cartoons coexist. The story follows private detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), who is hired to investigate an alleged affair involving Jessica Rabbit (Kathleen Turner), the wife of cartoon star Roger Rabbit (Charles Fleischer). The case takes a turn when Marvin Acme (Stubby Kaye), Jessica’s alleged lover and the owner of Toontown, is seemingly murdered. Roger is blamed for the alleged crime and becomes the target of Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd), who wants to destroy him.
Despite his reluctance, Eddie agrees to help Roger escape and clear his name, leading to chaos. Robert Zemeckis steers this fantasy comedy film, which is loosely based on Gary K. Wolf’s novel ‘Who Censored Roger Rabbit?’ Both ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ and ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ create unique worlds where animated characters exist alongside humans. Along with this, the two films also share similar visual aesthetics and unpredictable characters that connect them on a deeper level.

‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie’ is the tale of an unlikely pair of Looney Tunes characters who become humanity’s last line of defense. Porky Pig and Daffy Duck are a duo whose actions at a factory mistakenly lead to the discovery of a mysterious alien mind-control scheme. What begins as another chaotic misadventure soon places the pair in the middle of an alien threat, forcing them to save their town and potentially the entire world. Despite their constant clashes and very different personalities, they attempt to stop the aliens and must do this without troubling each other.
Directed by Pete Browngardt, the sci-fi comedy film is a spin-off from the ‘Looney Tunes Cartoons’ series. Both ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie’ and ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ take cartoon characters beyond their usual situations and place them in high-stakes battles against powerful enemies. The two films also focus on teamwork and its role in overcoming crises and forming bonds.
