When a talented and rising cyclist named Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson was found dead inside her friend’s Austin, Texas, residence on May 11, 2022, the entire community was shaken to its core, especially her family members, including her parents, Eric and Karen Wilson, and her brother, Matthew Wilson. The episode titled ‘Three Shots in the Dark’ of ABC’s ’20/20′ delves deep into the case and the subsequent investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of Kaitlin Armstrong. The documentary also explores the impact Moriah’s death had on her family and how they reacted to the tragedy.
Anna Moriah Wilson’s Family Found Closure After the Killer Was Brought to Justice
Eric and Karen Wilson welcomed Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson into the world on May 18, 1996, in Littleton, New Hampshire. The couple raised her alongside another child of theirs and Moriah’s brother, Matthew “Matt” Wilson. The Wilson family received the shock of their lives when Moriah, a professional cyclist, was shot to death at her friend’s house in Austin, Texas, while she awaited the start of a cycling competition scheduled to start a few days later. The investigation was swift, and the perpetrator, Kaitlin Armstrong, was apprehended in a matter of a few weeks. After Moriah’s untimely demise, the Wilson family set up a GoFundMe page in order to collect funds for community organizations related to biking, skiing, and other activities Moriah liked.

The Wilson family was relieved when Kaitlin was convicted and sentenced to 90 years in prison for the murder of Moriah Wilson. In her victim impact statement, Karen addressed the killer, saying, “I hate what you did to my beautiful daughter. It was very selfish and cowardly that violent act on May 11. It was cowardly because you never chose to face her woman-to-woman in a civil conversation. She would’ve listened. She was an amazing listener. She would have cared about your feelings.” A few months after the sentencing, the family filed a civil wrongful death lawsuit against Kaitlin on May 6, 2024. About a month later, on June 17, she was ordered to pay $15 million to them. However, when she transferred her assets instead of money, they filed another lawsuit for fraudulent transfer in July 2024.
