While it’s true that the 3rd annual Astroworld Festival in November 2021 was supposed to be a high-energy 2-day event in the wake of the pandemic, it quickly descended into pure chaos. This much is even evidenced in Netflix’s ‘Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy,’ as no one could have imagined that 10 innocent concertgoers would lose their lives, and more would get injured. Amongst the latter was Arturo Sanchez, whose heart stopped after he was trampled by the crowd within minutes of headliner Travis Scott coming on stage, only to quickly be revived by a nurse.
Arturo Sanchez Was Excited to See Travis Scott Live, Until He Wasn’t
As a long-time fan of rapper Travis Scott, the minute Arturo Sanchez heard he was returning to his home state of Texas with another iteration of his Astroworld Festival, he knew he would attend. The then-23-year-old was truly excited to support the artist because he believed in him as well as in his message, which is why he even stood in the merch line for 4 hours to grab some goods. It was not only sunny but also quite warm on the fateful November 5th afternoon, yet he didn’t care since it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for him, and he was determined to have a great time.
Little did Arturo know that things would take a drastic turn mere hours later, as fans started piling into the general admission section on the right side of the stage, awaiting Travis to get on. He was right here too, unaware that the dense wave of people would soon make him lose his balance and fall onto the ground – this happened minutes after the rapper started his set. The young Dallas native vividly remembers that he didn’t hesitate in doing everything in his power to get out, including pulling at people in the hopes of getting their attention to pick him up, but to no avail.
Arturo Sanchez Was Saved by a Fellow Concert Attendee
At some point, a fellow attendee fell right on top of Arturo, following which he stopped hearing the music and began losing consciousness – he thought he was going to die and had accepted it. Thankfully, Sophia Santana, a Registered Nurse who was also attending the concert and had survived being trampled, decided to help out whoever she could, and found him. The second she realized his pulse was very weak, she immediately got to work by trying several methods to revive him since she knew he was a minute away from death, and it thankfully worked. He was later rushed to the hospital, where he learned he’d passed out from a heart attack before being saved by a stranger.
While Arturo doesn’t remember what transpired before he awoke in the hospital on November 6, Sophia recalls him being so panicked even when he regained consciousness in the field that he swung at her. He didn’t know what was happening, let alone comprehend any of her questions regarding his name, loved ones, or recent events while she was checking him for a concussion. Therefore, she simply made sure he was taken to a medical center, which is where he woke up just as confused as ever because he “didn’t know what was going on” until doctors explained the situation.
Arturo Sanchez Seems to be Living His Best Life Today
It was on November 7, 2021, when Arturo was discharged from the hospital, and that’s the same day he first met the woman who saved his life – the woman he now calls his “guardian angel.” This experience genuinely left him shocked to his very core, so he’s utterly grateful for a second shot at life, and this time, with Sophia as a close personal friend, despite them residing miles apart. After all, while he is a proud native of Dallas, Texas, she is a Registered Nurse based out of Los Angeles, California, meaning they stay in touch primarily via texts, phone calls, and social media.
Apart from still maintaining contact with Sophia to show his appreciation and remember the event that now ties them together, Arturo has even kept in mind the significance of second chances. That’s why he doesn’t waste any opportunity to spread his wings, resulting in him now being a world explorer while also dabbling in a bit of modeling for the Texas-based House AfterDrk brand. From Cabo San Lucas in Mexico to Puerto Rico and from Houston to New York, he has been everywhere in the past few years, all the while ensuring he doesn’t let one bad incident ruin live events for him forever.
We say this because Arturo has seemingly worked through the 2021 tragedy to now live his best possible life by continuing to undertake different experiences as well as attend several concerts in a year. He was at the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) in the summer of 2024 and has enjoyed sets by Azzecca, Deorro, Chris Lake, Odd Mob, Lilly Palmer, Deathpact, Jamie XX, MOCHAKK, and several other artists as well as DJs. House music is the genre he gravitates towards the most these days, so we should mention that House AfterDrk is also a brand that holds events for the same in Fort Worth. As for Arturo’s personal life, while it’s unclear whether or not he is in a relationship as of writing, we do know he is a kind, caring man who is not only close to his blood family but also openly considers his friends his family.
