Seven new pairs were introduced to the world of reality TV in season 12 of TLC’s ’90 Day Fiancé.’ Among them are Ashia Montgomery and Maxwell Okeke, whose unique love story quickly grabbed everyone’s attention. The former hails from Alabaster, Alabama and approaches love with a deep spiritual grounding. She believed that God paved the way for her to meet Maxwell, a 28-year-old entrepreneur from Awka, Nigeria. The contrasting dynamics of their relationship created both undeniable chemistry and unavoidable tension. Their journey had been far from smooth, as visa complications and conflicts between their families caused mounting pressure and threatened their bond.
Ashia and Maxwell’s Faith-Driven Romance Faced Obstacles at Every Turn
Ashia Montgomery’s journey toward love was rooted in faith long before it became reality. From the age of 16, she prayed to God and waited for her husband. Eventually, in 2024, she prepared for the next chapter of her life and expanded the search for her soulmate beyond borders. Just two weeks later, she came across Maxwell on social media. Their simple conversations soon gave way to deeper feelings, and it wasn’t long before he romantically proposed to her by writing “Will U Marry Me?” with ketchup on a plate. Ashia was elated to take the next step, but the pair faced reality when Maxwell didn’t get the K-1 visa. The delays with the process disrupted their long-awaited plans.

Consequently, Ashia traveled to Nigeria with her mother to explore an alternative path, but the 38-year-old encountered more obstacles. The different expectations of the couple’s families created clashes. Their families also became concerned about their 10-year age gap. Moreover, conversations about future plans to have children further escalated the tension. Another setback regarding the visa challenges led Ashia and Maxwell to consider marriage in his country to open the option of applying for a spousal visa. Unfortunately, it seems they ultimately failed to remain steadfast beside each other. The combined struggles had likely driven them apart, leaving their love story with an outcome they never envisioned.
