It was around 2021 when the world turned upside down for Ashley Thompson and Marita Prodger as they first came across one another on a dating app, only to quickly dive deep. Many might not have expected them to last, considering their 5-year age gap, but they surprised even one another with their ability to keep a good conversation going long after their initial swipe. Little did they know, though, that after 3 years they would find themselves at a crossroads with respect to their future and end up on Netflix’s ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love’ season 2.
Ashley and Marita Struggled With Aligning Their Love Languages
From the moment Ashley and Marita first appeared on our screens, it was evident that while there is genuine care, love, and respect between them, they had trouble with consistency. In fact, the 30-year-old believed her younger girlfriend had a “wandering eye,” which broke her heart because it made her feel as if she wasn’t enough, despite being ready to take the next steps. As for the 25-year-old hopeless romantic, she stated their bond was lacking a spark/true romance for her – she wanted Ashley to do more to show her just how much she matters to her.
Marita admittedly didn’t want to continuously ask for date nights, efforts, or romance since she knew it wouldn’t benefit anyone. Still, she also rightly asserted that she needs and deserves it. It represents her love language, which understandably matters to her, leading her to make it known that until she saw some real changes in Ashley, she wouldn’t walk down the aisle no matter what. On the flip side, the latter maintained she felt as if she was doing her best to give her partner what she desired, yet it never seemed sufficient, so even their natural chemistry soon took a backseat.
The truth is that both Ashley’s and Marita’s respective initial trial marriages with their new partners only solidified this difference between them by showing them they can easily get what they deserve. While the former got a safe space to open up about how a past abusive relationship has affected the way she shows up for people today, Marita received consistent affection rather effortlessly. In the end, they both grew confident in who they are as individuals before also learning to create healthy boundaries, only to still not be on the same page in terms of their core love languages. In a twist of events, on Decision Day, Ashley actually rescinded her ultimatum while receiver Marita was ready to say yes to forever with her.
Ashley and Marita Are No Longer Involved in Any Manner
Not only have both Ashley and Marita confirmed they are no longer romantically involved, but they have also clarified they ended on bad terms owing to the latter feeling led on and used. There have even been allegations of cheating since Marita believed there was a period after filming when they were in touch and together, whereas no lines were clearly drawn for Ashley. We should also mention they don’t follow one another on their respective social media accounts, let alone seem to be in touch via likes or comments, despite Marita still having some of their old photos on her feed. Then there’s the fact that they both have indicated in separate Instagram posts that they are currently single and excited for the future, especially after having been through a lot in the past few years.
Ashley did so while paying tribute to St. Petersburg, Florida, the place she called home for over 2 years, penning, in part, “Dear St. Pete, you put me through literal hell, but I couldn’t be more happy with how much you helped me grow. I no longer tolerate less than I deserve, and I’ll forever know my worth when it comes to friendships and relationships.” On the other hand, Marita did so in her most recent birthday post by excluding any mention of a relationship altogether. On March 13, 2025, the 27-year-old wrote, in part, “I could cry at the amount of love i have felt in these past couple months, full of amazing friendships, family, and gratitude for whats in store. I could not be more excited for this next chapter.”
Ashley and Marita Are Furthering Their Lives as Public Figures Today
While it’s true that Ashley was living her childhood dream of traveling across the country alongside her beloved German Shepherd, Bentley, back in 2023, it appears as if she now calls Denver, Colorado, her home. She spent a couple of great years in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she learned a lot about herself, but by early 2025, she knew it was time for a change, so she did what needed to be done. Therefore, today, the 31-year-old outdoor enthusiast and music lover is building a new life in her “new hometown” alongside her fur baby, while serving as an Account Manager and rising public figure.
Coming to Marita, the former singer continues to reside in the Sunshine State, in St. Petersburg, to be precise, where she currently serves as a Corporate Account Executive at Verkada. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Music from Eckerd College as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Entertainment Industry Studies from Belmont University, which has helped her garner immense experience in the industry. She has worked as an Artist Management Intern, Artist Management Publicist, Entertainment Publicist, Executive Assistant for Salesperson and Music Producer, Voice Coach’s Assistant, and Market Analysis Research for Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, amongst many positions. Yet, now, she seems to be focused on building a name for herself in the corporate world, while continuing to enjoy music, festivals, and other forms of entertainment as just her passion.
