Helmed by Julio Jorquera Arriagada, Fernando Guzzoni, and Pepa San Martín, Netflix’s ‘Baby Bandito’ journeys along with Kevin Tapia, a seemingly regular skateboarder with a family of esteemed criminals. Following in their footsteps, Kevin hopes to pull off the biggest heist of all time. In season 1, he and his ragtag group of criminals nearly nail the job. However, with no way of simultaneously keeping the cash and escaping the wrath of the police and the mafia, he ends up running around the globe, narrowly avoiding every obstacle that is thrown his way. Season 2 of this Chilean Heist Drama series takes a closer look at the legacy left behind by Kevin, as well as the consequences of his actions. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Baby Bandito Plot Recap
The second season follows Kevin and his gang three years after the initial heist. While investigations have cooled down, he still has no respite and is forced to live in hiding. Worse, all of the money Kevin stole is stolen back by the Butcher, who is now in a wheelchair due to the injuries he sustained while fighting Panther. Mistica, along with her equally talented sister, America, investigates how the Butcher is laundering his money and manages to narrow it down to horse racing, which is overseen by his daughter, Natalia Robles. A plan begins to come to life, with a key player being Rambo, Ana’s new lover and the caretaker of Excorcist, the newest and costliest horse in Natalia’s league. However, the final addition to the team is the most important one: Kevin himself rejoins the group as its leader.

While initially hesitant, he changes his mind upon learning that Ana has cancer and needs money for her treatment. Employing a series of clever tactics, the team determines exactly where Natalia hides her money inside a maze of underground passageways, and a strategy of breaking and entering takes shape. However, their plans are disrupted when Axel, the Butcher’s youngest son and Natalia’s rival, gets his father’s blessings to raid the hideout himself and steal all the money. In the ensuing chaos, Kevin’s crew narrowly manages to secure the funds, but is ambushed by none other than the Russian, who has escaped prison with Panda.
The wounds between Kevin and his former best friend are still fresh, and the fact that Panda holds Genesis hostage makes things no better. In the confusion, however, Genesis is accidentally shot in the stomach, and Kevin’s entire life threatens to come crashing down. As the Russian ran away with a truckload of money, America latched on, prepared to figure out their hideout one way or another. The family politics between the Butcher’s children intensifies, as both sides begin to make their own plans. Axel, in particular, takes a liking to Genesis and hopes to use her as a bargaining chip to gain all the money.
With this, the onus is once again on Kevin and his team, and they devise an elaborate plan to break into the Russians’ garage and make off with the money. After narrowly escaping with all the money, the crew returns to base to celebrate, and yet Kevin has bigger concerns at hand. Axel demands every last penny in return for Genesis’ safety. Kevin agrees without knowing that, behind the scenes, Axel has already been killed by Natalia. Kevin’s attempts to sneak out with the cash put him at odds with Mistica, but with no way out, she agrees to the deal and sets out to the site of bargaining, armed with a backup plan that risks it all.
Baby Bandito Ending: Is Kevin Arrested? Does He Rescue Genesis?
The second season of ‘Baby Bandito’ ends with Kevin leaving his fugitive lifestyle behind and surrendering to the police. As the mastermind of the “Heist of the Century” is finally nabbed, the scene is filled with a sense of closure, rather than chaos, as acknowledged by the thief himself. With this, the entire chapter concerning the Butcher and his empire also comes to a close, freeing Kevin’s near and dear ones from a future full of violence. This is crucial to the other major part of his plan, which involves abandoning his freedom for the safety of Genesis and their child, Giovanni. Since the police are now aware of the ins and outs of his criminal endeavors, it is likely that they will continue to surveil his family for the foreseeable future, which protects Genesis from potential threats.

Following the arrest, Kevin is found guilty of the heist, as well as his participation in other conspiracies, and sentenced to three years in prison. Despite seemingly leaving the life of crime behind, Kevin confirms in the final moments that he has not given up on using his wits. In the prison, he works as a bookkeeper, keeping everyone in his vicinity in check while also minting fresh money. Though this is a far cry from his previous exploits, these shenanigans point to his evergreen fascination with money and the craft required to make a lot of it. The final monologue also takes a self-referential turn when Kevin speaks to his legacy as the Baby Bandito, the thief who terrorized the entire world with his seemingly impossible feats.
While that may be the case, Kevin also comes to understand the burdens and gray responsibilities that come along with this life, making him unfit for the role, as he is a person with a family. Acknowledging this, Kevin muses that he cannot remain a Baby Bandito forever, bringing to the forefront the themes of maturity and metamorphosis. The story begins with vivid images of a house engulfed in flames, with a lone child staring at the destruction from outside. Jumping ahead into the present, we meet Polly Murphy, who is barely making ends meet in life due to a troublesome landlord.
Her path intersects with that of Caitlin Morales, an accomplished lawyer who is presently pregnant. The two strike up a pleasant conversation, which becomes relevant in the coming weeks, as Caitlin gives birth to her second child and struggles to balance work with family. Polly, a nanny by profession, offers her help, and the family accepts her offer. Although Caitlin is thorough in making sure that the new nanny is the right fit for her baby, behind the scenes, a nefarious plan unfolds, as Polly is not who she claims to be. Things start to go awry when Polly sneakily adds a mysterious powder to Caitlin’s soup dish.
What Happens to Ana, Panda, and Mistica?
While Kevin finds his own footing in the prison, his band of crewmates all set out on their different paths, which may or may not intersect down the line. Mistica, along with her sister, America, manages to escape the scene before the police arrive, and that allows them to continue their lives as free people. However, with the police’s newest bust being Kevin, tensions are at an all-time high, and the sisters realize they might have to keep a low profile for a while. While this continues, the newest member of the team, Gustavo, yearns for the next gig in the hopes of establishing himself as a reliable figure, knowing that he is perhaps in the safest position at the moment.

Panda, however, has a completely different trajectory, one that leads him right back to his best friend, Kevin. As it turns out, the two friends enter prison together and plan to persevere through the next three years, returning to their regular lives as free people. Unlike the younger members of the team, the fate of Ana and her partner, Rambo, is wrapped in layers of ambiguity. While we see both of them getting arrested, what happens after that is never revealed, leaving room for speculation about their possible involvement.
With Ana’s long history of criminal ventures in mind, it is likely that she will be incarcerated just like her son, but her underlying cancer is bound to make things trickier. Given that her treatment has been one of the driving forces of the season, how the police deal with her disease and treatment might alter Kevin’s perspective on things. The fact that Rambo is a former police officer gives them a chance to balance the playing field and help Ana’s case. As such, while all of the team members’ paths diverge to some extent, they are unified in their shared experience as teammates who have been through thick and thin and survived.
Is the Butcher Dead? Why Does Paloma Shoot Him?
Another major development that takes place in the final moments of this season is the showdown between the Butcher and Kevin. As Paloma, the Butcher’s second wife, holds Genesis and Giovanni at gunpoint, all hope momentarily seems lost, and yet the final push comes from none other than Ana. In a flashback from episode 5, we learn that Paloma is also a thief and was once saved from certain death by Ana’s timely intervention. In the present, Ana reminds Paloma of that act of mercy, hoping for the tides to turn in her favor, and it works. Instead of pointing the gun at Genesis, Paloma now aims it right at the Butcher, before pulling the trigger and gunning him down.

The Butcher’s death brings a definitive end to this saga, freeing Kevin from an endless cycle of violence. This action also serves as a moment of personal liberation for Paloma, who, for years now, has endured abuse at the hands of the Butcher in her search for an opening in his defenses. While Paloma’s decision to kill the Butcher is informed by what she owes to Ana, his antagonistic tendencies also play a part in the decision-making process. As the story’s overarching antagonist, the Butcher embodies many of the ideas and perspectives that Kevin rebels against, with wealth inequality being a forerunner.
Given that the heists in ‘Baby Bandito’ are also Kevin’s way of rebelling against the system, Paloma’s siding with him is also a sign of solidarity. On the other hand, the Butcher’s demise most severely affects his daughter, Natalia, who is arrested for her crimes right in the middle of mourning her father’s death. Much like Kevin, she is incriminated for her connection to the “Heist of the Century” and sent to prison. With this, the chapter of the Butcher’s family likely comes to an end, with no way for them to regain their former stronghold and attack Kevin.
What Happens to the Heist Money? Who Takes it?
With Kevin being arrested and the Butcher biting the dust, the question of who gets the money does not have an easy answer, and several different parties lock hands to gain control of that mountain of cash. However, the sudden arrival of the Russian switches things up yet again, as he wastes no time in tearing through the enemy forces and securing the van containing all the money. His journey with this stolen sum has seen its fair share of ups and downs, and while he originally wanted all of it for himself, something seems different this time. In a long, powerful monologue, he expresses how money and the desire for control have corrupted everyone’s mind, reducing them to mere puppets who are ready to kill each other at a moment’s notice.

He does not exclude himself from this list, either, and proposes a radical overhaul that can restore things to their original state. To that end, he lights a gas cylinder on fire and throws it into the car, causing a massive explosion that burns all the money to a crisp. Although the Russian’s words speak to the larger themes of the story, there is also an emotional angle to his actions, stemming from the death of his lover, Huemul. Originally, the two promise to run away with the entire sum and lead a life of peace, but the subsequent violence crushes that dream, giving the Russian a stark reality check.
As such, his decision to burn the entire heap liberates all of the characters to reflect on their actions, allowing Paloma to change her heart. Notably, the imminent arrival of the police meant that the money was likely about to enter their custody either way. The Russian’ stunt, however, allows for Kevin’s fate to change for the better, showing how those who have relinquished their greed are rewarded by the narrative, as opposed to people like the Butcher, who are unable to exit that toxic lifestyle down to their last breaths.
