Baby Farm Plot Recap

The story begins with Adanna, a teenage girl whose life turns upside down when news of her pregnancy outside of wedlock breaks out. Her lover, Obinna, is sent to Lagos, and Adanna quickly follows suit but is unable to find him. Now stuck in an unwelcoming city, she survives by doing odd jobs until her pregnancy renders her unfit to work. Homeless and struggling to make ends meet, the protagonist finds relief in the form of the Evans Foundation, an NGO run by Dr. Oliver Evans and his wife, Barbara, promising to bring relief to people in a situation such as hers. She is promised a comfortable life and support throughout, on the condition that she puts her baby up for adoption. Initially, Adanna agrees, but things take a turn on the very first day when she finds out that her life in the foundation closely resembles that inside a prison.

Meanwhile, Cherise, a star actress, desperately desires a baby. Her adoption efforts fail owing to her husband, David’s, criminal record. With no way out in sight, she decides to make a deal with the Evans Foundation, securing the twins that Adanna is pregnant with. Meanwhile,  Adanna comes to the slow and horrifying realization that the foundation is a baby farm that works under the cover of a good cause and that she is trapped for life, just like her other inmates. She begins to plot a daring escape, hiding in the laundry bag, but is eventually caught, with the punishment being inflicted on all the non-pregnant girls instead. As a result, Adanna only gains more enemies, and the question of who is an ally becomes more relevant than ever.

While her friendship with Ebun begins to develop cracks due to her suspicions, on the other side of the narrative, the Evans’s life begins to fall apart, and Cherise comes face to face with Joy, a journalist who seeks to uncover the truth behind the foundation. Joy teams up with Ify, a mysterious character looking for her missing sister Em, a prisoner of the baby farm. Multiple plot threads begin to stew, culminating in Adanna’s second attempt at escape along with Ebun. While the latter is successful, Adanna goes into labor, forcing her to stay behind. Ebun makes her way to Ify, who is struggling with the death of Joy, and the two plan to bring an end to Evans and his oppressive organization, saving everyone in the process.

Baby Farm Ending: Does Barbara Kill Doctor Evans? Why?

In the final scene of the show, Barbara traps her husband, Oliver, inside the clinic and begins mounting all the documents by the door. A chilling sequence ensues as Oliver begs her to free him, not understanding why she would betray him. However, his wife resolves to see it through to the end, dousing the entire clinic in oil before setting it on fire. As the fire reaches him, his screams of anger and desperation turn into those of pain. While his death is not shown, it is strongly implied that there is no escape for him, and he is soon to perish. Barbara watches from afar, finally free of his clutches. Her actions come as her last resort to put an end to decades of abuse and madness, as she can perfectly frame the events as an accident while simultaneously erasing all evidence of all her crimes, including this one.

Earlier in the story, Joy is murdered in front of Ify by assassins hired by Oliver, creating the perfect chance to bring him down. Together with Ebun, Ify carries Joy’s dead body and places it inside a car containing enough evidence to incriminate the organization. She then proceeds to create as much media buzz as she can, eventually getting the police’s attention. A subsequent investigation quickly unravels their criminal operations; however, Ify underestimates how powerful her enemy is. With everyone, including the police chief, seemingly in his pockets, Oliver manages to evade arrest, instead pinning the blame on the two nurses. The chief further suggests that Evans burn the entire clinic and all evidence with it to completely avoid blame. It is while preparing for this that Barbara chooses to betray Evans.

Throughout the narrative, Barbara has been a consistent, albeit unequal, participant in the harrowing schemes of the foundation, ruining several innocent lives for profit. However, she does seem to harbor reservations about her husband’s extreme measures and closes her eyes to many of the insidious crimes they are committing. In the end, she finds him indistinguishable from an actual criminal and decides to put an end to things. While Evans pays for his sins, Barbara likely manages to walk scott-free. Throughout the narrative, she prays to God for forgiveness and hope, which paints her conclusion in irony. It is possible that she seeks divine punishment for her crimes and will eventually confess.

Are Adanna and Her Babies Reunited? Does She Escape?

After giving birth to twins, Adanna is immediately separated from them. While she is forced to continue the cycle and lead a tortured life, her children are poised to be sold off to wealthy clients, in this case, Cherise. While her initial attempts fail terribly, the protagonist still wishes to escape the facility. With the help of her mystery enabler, she manages to break free of her cell and venture into the maternity ward, looking for her children. Eventually, she finds her children with Evans right before they leave her grasp forever. The two engage in a tug of war, but it ends with the latter’s loss, and in the wake of the institution’s collapse, Adanna manages to leave her past behind and walk out with both of her children.

Adanna’s grand escape begins with a mystery enabler, who leaves her with a key and a note. This person is revealed to be Eniye, who is originally introduced as a docile, cognitively impaired woman. Eniye tells Adanna that her impairment is all an act that she puts on to disarm everyone around her, primarily Dr. Evans himself, who exploits her seeming condition by sexually abusing her. In return, she gets to roam around the facility unquestioned, making it possible to extract the key. With a way out now in sight, the duo begins planning. They successfully procure the helper uniforms and wear them to disguise themselves, cautiously navigating the halls and using the key to cleanly exit the building.

Just when their plan nears completion, however, Adanna declares that she cannot leave without her children, urging Eniye to help her break into the wards. While the protagonist manages to find a gun in Oliver’s drawer, Eniye is not so lucky, as she is found by a guard and fatally shot. Adanna finds Barbara and proceeds to hold her at gunpoint, demanding the location of her children. The two make their way to Oliver, who sits calmly, holding the two babies. When Adanna threatens to shoot, he, in return, threatens to break the infants’ necks, forcing her to give up. With the gun now in his hand, he is poised to kill her, but upon failing to do so, he chooses to flee the building. The twins return to their mother, and she stands by the balcony, cooing to them that it’s them against the world.

Does Ebun Die?

Following the violent tussle between Adanna and Evans, the former’s death is seemingly imminent, but is stopped by the last-minute interference of Ebun, who leaps in front of her friend and is shot in her stead. As Evans rushes out to avoid the messy situation, Adanna and Ify watch their friend collapse on the ground. They desperately try to keep Ebun awake, showing her that his actions are worth it, as the children are now safe with their mother. Hearing this, Ebun, someone who has never been a mother herself, finds solace. She remarks how she was not cut for the outside world either way and how death is better. Her friends, however, refuse to budge, calling for help and urging her to fight for her life, knowing that they are now finally free.

Ebun’s final appearance is on a stretcher, being assisted out of the room. While there is no explicit confirmation about whether she is alive or dead, Ify’s facial expressions convey a grim situation. However, there is a strong possibility of Ebun making it out alive, as deaths in movies and shows are usually confirmed by covering the deceased’s face. In this case, Ebun’s face is uncovered, making it likely that she is being taken to a hospital and that she might survive the ordeal. This would point to a happy ending, as both Adanna and Ebun are now liberated, free to take control of their lives. Ebun has a particularly harsh past, and thus, a second chance at life, rewarding her act of courage, is a very likely way to end her character arc.

What Happens to Cherise and David?

In a strange twist of fate, Cherise and David refuse to take the deal with the Evans after learning the true nature of their operations. Instead, the couple can last be seen heading out of Nigeria by flight. They are visibly frustrated after vying for twin children for so long and being given hope, only to have that opportunity taken away from them due to foul practices. On their way out, they are interrupted by the airport staff, arousing fear. However, it is revealed to be a harmless fan, thus ending their arcs on a good note. The two go through various ups and downs regarding their desire for a child, and the eventual failure comes as another blow; however, they seem to be coping with the event and are most likely to continue looking for a way to secure a child.

The Evans Foundation wishes to have Cherise on board due to her success as an actor, hoping that, as an ambassador, she will bring other high-profile clients to them. Her wish for children takes her down a dark path, one that is challenged by journalists like Joy. Despite her suspicions about the happenings, the actress seeks to continue on, putting her trust in the Evans Foundation. However, Ify soon reveals the truth by showing her a picture of Joy’s dead body, following which the couple promptly opts out. Evans’s frustration reaches a peak when he’s stood up by the duo. With no buyers for the twins, he begins to act aggressively, cascading into the events that affect his career and life.
