Season 17 of ‘Married at First Sight’ introduced the viewers to several hopeful individuals looking for their happily ever. Among them were Becca Haley and Austin Reed, who were matched by the show’s experts based on their compatibility. Becca, a talented wedding photographer, and Austin, a business expert, put forth a relationship that had shown great promise despite their differences. Both individuals respected the idea of marriage and had fun-loving personalities, which reassured their fanbase that they had what it took to work out through their marriage. However, the deep-rooted differences and expectations slowly caught up to them, bringing in mixed reactions from the audience and sparking the debate about whether they would beat the odds.
Becca and Austin Started Strong, But Tension Started Arising Soon
Becca and Austin were instantly attracted to each other once they met at the altar, and they completely hit it off till their honeymoon. They further got closer when Becca opened up before Austin regarding her entire medical diagnosis. However, when they returned to Colorado, their conversations revealed that the couple had different viewpoints. While Austin was a devout Christian, Becca was from a Jewish background and was not sure if she believed in god. She was also not particularly inclined to have kids, while Austin wanted to. These conflicting beliefs created some tension, but still compromised to make it work. However, the main problem arose when Austin could not meet Becca’s expectations of intimacy.
With time, the couple stopped communicating clearly or reassuring each other, which led to neither feeling heard in the relationship. During one of the sessions, Becca mentions how Austin’s “dismissiveness” and “combativeness” make her shut down, and she has a hard time. On the other hand, Austin also expressed how he felt she was trying to micromanage him. Shortly after, Becca mentions how she felt that there was no intimacy between them when they were not on camera, and she did not feel wanted. However, the session ended after Austin reassured her their marriage was worth working for, which ultimately seemed to have placated Becca. It was evident when she mentioned that she needed this and was thankful that Austin said that. With these ups and downs, the couple finally reached the decision day.
Becca and Austin Didn’t Split Up on Good Terms and are Not in Contact Today
Despite the challenges of conflicting views and incompatible intimacy paces, the couple decided to work on their relationship together. While Becca hoped that their relationship would work beyond the confines of the camera in the real world, Austin promised that he would work more on expressing his feelings better. So, they said “yes” to each other on decision day. However, the couple’s happiness was short-lived. Becca discovered that on the night of the decision day, Austin was spending time with one of the female producers of the show. Although upon asking, he lied first, he was called out by Becca in front of the entire season 17 group. Ultimately, she ended up calling off their marriage then and there, with their commitment ending within 24 hours due to feelings of betrayal and broken trust. Currently, neither Becca nor Austin are in contact with each other.
Becca Has Redirected Her Focus to Her Career in Wedding Photography
After the show, Becca returned to her professional life as a wedding photographer. Currently, she continues to lead her business ‘Rebecca Haley Photography.’ She maintains a thriving and growing social media account, showcasing her photography skills with over 10k followers. Although she refrains from posting her personal pictures here, she has another account that she has kept private. She is also proud of her all-women team and showcases them candidly, where she and her team can be seen dancing and being goofy together. From what we know, Becca has been single ever since but continues to experience love as a part of her life due to her wedding photography business. She continues to be close to Becca, Emily, Clare, and Lauren from ‘Married at First Sight’ and the girls have been going strong ever since.
Austin Has Maintained a Low Public Profile Post His Time on the Show
Austin had tried to keep off the public sight as much as possible. He has an account on Instagram but has chosen to keep it private, with his bio mentioning, “Married at first sight sn 17 Denver. It was a hell of a ride; I’ll walk you through it.” One of the posts on Season 17’s participant Michael Shiakallis shows that Austin is on good terms with the guys from Season 17 and Chloe. The Coloradoan native visited Michael’s home during a watch party in April 2024 and also visited him to show his support before Michael’s boxing match in May 2024. Apart from being a business expert and showing an inclination towards outdoor activities, there is little known progress in his personal life.
