Best Medicine Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: Breakin’ in Is Hard to Do

Season 2 Episode 2 of ‘Best Medicine’ revolves around a string of robberies that break out across town. Since Sal’s pharmacy is the first place that has been hit, and the stolen merchandise is of the first-aid variety, Dr. Martin theorizes that the perpetrator is likely someone in need of medical attention. Unfortunately, for Louisa, her fertility medication has also become collateral damage in this theft, which puts a ticking clock on the investigation. Meanwhile, Eden is back in town, and from the looks of it, she’s also back in Martin’s life for the long run. As such, Sarah has no choice but to make an effort toward getting to know her nephew’s girlfriend, for better or for worse. Lastly, a local rivalry breaks out when Gina opens a pizza-themed food truck right outside of the Salty Breeze. SPOILERS AHEAD.

A Robbery, a Prank, and an Awkward Lunch

After revealing the truth about his blood phobia to the whole town, Martin’s week doesn’t get off to the best start. Aunt Sarah isn’t thrilled by the fact that he decided to keep such a big secret from her. On the other hand, the townsfolk decide to pull a practical prank on him by calling him to the Salty Breeze for an emergency, claiming Al has been injured, only for the doctor to discover that the blood pooled around him is actually just ketchup. Naturally, Martin isn’t the least bit amused by this, and Eden seems to be the only one who validates his feelings. Afterward, something unusual happens in Port Wenn as a robbery breaks out in Sal’s Pharmacy.

However, instead of money, the thief seems to have stolen emergency items like gauze pads, morphine, a pack of adult male diapers, and Louisa’s fertility medication. Confusingly enough, they seem to have also left some petty cash behind. Sheriff Mark Mylow remains fairly excited about the development, since the town rarely sees this type of illegal activity. Alternatively, Louisa’s stress skyrockets since she needs the medication within the next 36 hours, or she would have to cancel her upcoming egg retrieval appointment. Initially, the stolen adult diapers bring Mark, Martin, and Louisa to Collins, whose old age and condition fit in with the unexpected stolen item. However, this turns out to be a false lead.

As it turns out, Collins had arrived at the store after the robbery. He had left with the diapers and left the appropriate payment for them. Afterward, the doctor is pulled away from this investigation. Meanwhile, Sarah, upon realizing that Martin is serious about his relationship with Eden, begrudgingly invites her over for a meal. However, things go south when Eden reveals that she plans to eventually take Martin back to Boston with her, a decision he seems to agree with. This only furthers Sarah’s dislike for the other doctor since the fisherwoman is eager to have her nephew settle down in Port Wenn. Therefore, she ends up spilling a secret of her own and tells Eden about the kiss between Martin and Louisa that took place before her arrival.

The Satly Breeze Enters a Rivarly With Gina’s Authentic Brooklyn Pizza

Greg and George’s day also gets off to a bad start when they discover that Gina has opened a pizza truck right outside their inn. Since she has the right permits and isn’t technically overstepping on their property line, the couple can do nothing about it. Yet, the fact that most of their customers end up diverting towards the food truck remains a point of contention. Therefore, when someone breaks into their pantry, the inn-owners instantly paint Gina as the suspect. Nonetheless, Martin comes to a different conclusion when he realizes that the stolen items include alcohol and bug spray. He thinks that the same person is behind the robberies at the Salty Breexe and the pharmacy.

If the morphine hadn’t worked for the robber for medical reasons, they would be compelled to seek out alcohol as another pain suppressant. However, this would mean that someone in town is injured but choosing not to come to Martin. This theory is further proven when, the following night, someone breaks into the clinic to steal some forceps. The next day, there was a rivalry between the two business owners. Yet, things take an unexpected turn when George accuses Gina of being a killer. Apparently, he had overheard her confessing to having shot someone. However, when Martin talks to her, he realizes that Gina actually has stress-triggered Tourette’s syndrome, where she repeats phrases she overheard. As such, wherever someone confesses to a shooting is likely the place where the injured thief can be found.

Martin Fixes Up a Teenager in a Cabin in the Woods

Gina tells the others that she had overheard people in the woods, which becomes the next spot for Mark, Martin, and Louisa. During the search, the latter talks to the doctor about the town’s earlier prank and helps him realize that it was a way for the people to show that they have accepted him. Meanwhile, Eden helps Elaine with her UTI and learns about her boyfriend’s expedition in the woods. The fact that he’s with his previous crush compels her to track him down and join the search. Eventually, the group comes across a cabin, where they finally find their culprit. A teenager had snuck his girlfriend into his parents’ cottage, where he proceeded to show off his gunslinging skills.

Unfortunately, the gun accidentally went off, leaving him severely wounded. Even so, fearing the parents’ response, they decided to try to take care of the wound themselves with help from social media. Once Martin realizes what is happening, he immediately jumps to the young man’s rescue. Despite the bloody affair, he manages to administer the appropriate first aid, saving the teen’s life. In the aftermath, Louisa struggles with the decision to take her fertility medication as she begins to second-guess everything. Nevertheless, Martin is able to calm her down and make her realize she is making the right decision. In the end, he gives her the medication, ensuring the window doesn’t close for the treatment to still be possible.
