Who Died at Best-U Now? How Did They Die?

Any loss of life is heartbreaking, but the grief of loved ones grows multifold when it stems from something entirely senseless and needless. Unfortunately, that was precisely the case for one family back in October 2021, as a young woman died at the Best U-Now cosmetic surgery center in Plantation, Florida, after a couple of treatments. Her sudden demise left her family members and friends devastated and affected the entire community that rallied for justice, as showcased in Netflix’s ‘Love Con Revenge: Fraudster in the Family.’

Jaynisha “Jayla” Williams Was a Hardworking, Happily Married Mother of Two

On January 8, 1995, Jaynisha “Jayla” LaShawn Johnson was born to Latoshia Leggett and her then-partner as one of two daughters. She reportedly grew up in a broken home, yet she was still surrounded by affection, care, and kindness from the family she had around. Thus, she ended up developing these same qualities in herself because she understood how love as well as time transcends bounds. She brightened every room she walked into, was unwaveringly selfless, and had a bubbly aura that resulted in many even referring to her as a “beautiful soul.”

“(Jaynisha) was very caring and always knew what to say,” her sister Kimia Spikes once said before adding that the former was her best friend, her confidant, and her partner in crime. However, the then-26-year-old reportedly did have a loving, unwaveringly supportive life partner too, with whom she had welcomed two beautiful children into this world (aged 5 and 2 back in 2021). As for her career, it appears as if the Hillsborough County, Florida, resident was a proud professional photographer who specialized in capturing the emotions behind people from all walks of life.

Jaynisha “Jayla” Williams Sadly Passed Away After Undergoing Plastic Surgery

It was on the morning of October 20, 2021, when Jaynisha left her home to rush to Plantation, Florida, to undergo a Breast Augmentation procedure as well as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) at Best-U Now. Her mother had also flown in from California to be by her side since it was reportedly a rather significant step in her journey to self-love while also being a dedicated wife and mother of two. Everything seemed to be going as planned at first, until it wasn’t, with Latoshia realizing that her daughter hadn’t even come out while other patients were being billed and discharged.

According to Latoshia’s account to NBC Miami 6 (WTVJ), she asked employees about her daughter’s status every hour, just to be told everything was fine and Jaynisha was okay. Yet, things changed not long after as she suddenly heard ambulance sirens, making her panic and continue asking what was going on until someone politely told her that Jaynisha had passed away. The 26-year-old was officially declared dead at a nearby hospital, but her cause of death could not be determined. It was later clarified that her cosmetic procedures were completed, meaning she never awoke, allegedly from the anesthesia she had been administered.

In the aftermath of Jaynisha’s demise, several other administrative complaints against Best-U Now came to light, driving the Florida Health Department to take action. They filed official claims against the facility as well as the then-designated physician in charge, while asking for their suspension or some penalty. However, these ultimately led nowhere, meaning no formal penalties were levied against the facility or those in charge. It was only ascertained that the doctor who administered the anesthesia to the married mother of two, Dr. Millicent Muir, was not even qualified to do so. In fact, she was an OB-GYN restricted from practicing even that specialty owing to an unrelated previous issue. Therefore, following Jaynisha’s death and subsequent investigations, she alone faced the consequences as her medical license was revoked.
