Thus, with so many pieces moving against one another, things are bound to end in a disaster. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Blood Coast Season 2 Recap
Three months after Lyès’ arrest and imprisonment, the ex-cop undergoes a tough time behind prison bars. If his old profession doesn’t make him a target in the slammer, the grudge crime boss, Murillo, is holding against him certainly does. Still, even in the face of attempted assassination, he stubbornly refuses to transfer to a different facility, unwilling to give up on his routine family visits with his daughter. Meanwhile, his old team, now cut down to four agents, works a case against the rising new gang in the city, Le Xetas. During a bust, Tatoo lets his emotions get the best of him, allowing one of the criminals, an old friend, Mehdi Djaoui, to escape. Little does he know, the latter is actually the right-hand man in the entire operation, second only to his brother, Yassine. However, although the team manages to cover their tracks for Tatoo’s mistake, trouble awaits them back at the station in the form of Commander Beckerman of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

As it turns out, Beckerman is in Marseille to open up some of the old cases in the department, including the mysterious death of a woman named Nina, who may or may not have a connection to Audrey. Despite the unexpected unearthing of the case, the detective remains steadfast in the cover story of ignorance she has maintained since the day of the crime. On the other hand, Lyès receives a tempting offer when Ali finds himself on his way out of prison for the foreseeable future. The criminal wants Murillo dead. Therefore, he offers to provide security to the ex-cop within the prison and his family outside of it, in exchange for one assassination. Even though Lyès sticks to his morals and turns his offer down, he realizes he needs a way to keep his family safe. For the same reason, instead of making a dubious deal with the devil, he decides to make one with Miranda, the same officer who had worked to put him behind bars.
Consequently, Lyès finds himself participating in a staged escape during prison transfers that solidify his status as a fugitive wanted by law. On the other hand, despite Ali’s prison release, the board involved in launching his housing project, Oliviers, refuses to let him enter the circle without a big payout. This means the crime boss is in desperate need of extra cash, which stokes the fires of the rivalry between him and the Le Xetas. This opens up the opportunity for Lyès to slither among Ali’s ranks, offering a helping hand for a price that is made all the more believable due to his wanted status. However, unbeknownst to the criminal, the ex-cop is working as an off-the-books undercover spy for Miranda. As a part of the charade, he has to tag along on various missions, pulling strings to strengthen his position as Ali’s ally.

Yet, somewhere along the way, the lines of his deceit begin to blur. Towards the end, as Ali manages to secure a monopoly on all of Sidi’s product shipment, the only thing standing in the way of him and victory is a case full of gold bars. Thanks to Lyès, he manages to get his hands on it, which finalizes the deal. However, as things become simpler for him, they get more and more complicated for the ex-cop. In winning over the crime boss’ trust, Lyès finds himself unwilling to betray the other man. Not to mention, Miranda’s idea of putting him on the stand for a testimony against Ali will only put him in more danger, leaving a witness protection program as the best possible solution. Even so, the former detective’s biggest problem lies in an angle he has yet to consider.
Blood Coast Season 2 Ending: Does Ali Die? What Happens to His Gang?
Even though many of the domino pieces fall into place for Ali Saidi near the end of the season, he also suffers many significant losses. The most swift blow arrives when his niece/accountant, Leila, ends up getting arrested after a twist of fate leads Miranda and his team to unearth evidence of money laundering. As a result, the crime boss loses one of his most valuable assets. Still, that isn’t the end of his woes, especially after news arrives of Leila’s tragic death inside the lockup. Although the authorities may be inclined to write the incident off as a suicide, Ali knows it to be the actual working of Chris, Sidi’s lawyer, who is currently acting as his envoy. Even so, his desperation to finish the deal in order to secure his bag and get out of the Marseille drug world once and for all triumphs his desire for vengeance. As a result, he decides to go through with the deal and delegates the overseeing of the shipment to Lyès, the last person he can trust.

However, Ali soon finds out that his faith is misplaced. Serge De Costa, an old familiar face, has apparently been trying to keep close tabs on Lyès and his friends. As a result, he has concrete proof that the ex-cop has been lying to the crime boss all this time, and he’s really working undercover for his previous boss. Once the latter learns about this grave betrayal, it cuts him deep. As a result, it inevitably results in a charged confrontation between the pair. As Ali reveals that he has kidnapped Yassine, he also confronts Lyès about his deal with Miranda. Yet, instead of anger and violence, he can only express himself through deep-seated hurt. For all he knows, he has just lost his entire business as well as the last chance for a bright future because of his own naivety. For the same reason, he shoves a gun in the perceived traitor’s hands, urging him to pull the trigger and finish the job.
Although Lyès doesn’t take the opportunity, since things aren’t so black and white to him, Yassine doesn’t have the same hold-ups. He uses this emotional moment to his own advantage and manages to get the drop on the ex-cop after freeing himself from his bonds. Afterward, he makes a play for the gun and instantly shoots Ali down with it. By the time Lyès manages to get back to his feet and rush to his friend’s help, Yassine has already left. Ultimately, Ali dies, leaving the former cop to mourn the loss of someone who had grown to become a true friend. In the aftermath, once Chris learns about the death, she reaches out to Lyès to discuss the future of the city’s drug business. With Le Xetas weakened, Ali’s own gang fractured and untrustworthy, Sidi has no one to rely on for peddling his shipment. Initially, Chris is suspicious of Lyès due to his police background and connections. Yet, he manages to earn her trust by lying to her about how his former team is full of crooked cops. This lie becomes a catalyst in her final decision: Chris wants Lyès to overtake Ali’s business and become the kingpin of the Marseille drug world.
What Happens to Lyès’ Kid?
Throughout the season, Lyès’ number one priority remains his kid. After his arrest, the ex-cop becomes a high-up target on Murillo’s list, as evidenced by the hit the latter takes out on him during his imprisonment. However, according to Ali, this hostility isn’t confined to Lyès himself. Apparently, Murillo has also stationed his men to keep an eye on his family, including his daughter. Things worsen when the former detective learns that Child Protective Services has taken the kid away from her grandfather. Since both the kids ‘ parents are serving time in prison, she had been moved ot the custody of Lyès’ ex-father-in-law. Nonetheless, soon enough, CPS decides that the connection isn’t reliable enough to grant full legal guardianship.

Therefore, it seems like Lyès may lose his kid to foster care, an outcome he’s vehemently against. Consequently, this situation compels him to strike up a deal with Miranda. He offers to lend his services in bringing Ali and the rest of the Saidi gang down in exchange for the assurance that Fanny, his ex-wife, would be released from prison. If she’s released, she can go on to claim custody over their daughter, ensuring that the kid is safe and looked after. Nonetheless, although the father continues to put his life and future at risk, Miranda fails to completely hold up his end of the deal. In the end, while he puts the gears in motion to facilitate Fanny’s release, he insists that the matter is up to the DA and thus out of his hands. As the season ends, the mother’s and subsequently the kid’s future remains uncertain.
Is Miranda Dead? Did Lyes Kill Him?
In the beginning, earning Ali’s trust remains a tall order for Lyès. Although he finds small ways to show his alleged loyalty, such as sharing information and pulling off missions, he still needs to cement his place in the gang. Eventually, he gets that opportunity when he has to help Tobias secure the gold bars from under the cops’ noses. Yet, right afterward, another challenge awaits him. After Miranda arrests Leila, he makes an enemy out of Ali, whose sense of justice regarding his family runs strong. Therefore, since he can’t exact revenge upon Chris and Sidi, he turns his wrath on Miranda. Nonetheless, instead of finishing the job himself, he turns to Lyès, demanding that he kill the man to prove his loyalty. He argues that the act would be beneficial to the ex-cop as well since his former boss is directly responsible for ruining his life in one fell swoop.

Eventually, Lyès has no valid and believable excuse, leaving him with no choice but to carry forward with the assassination. Under the guise of the night, he attacks Miranda outside his home and shoots him point-blank. Yet, as it turns out, the entire thing was a charade. Lyès has known Ali was itching for revenge ever since Leila got arrested. In fact, he tries to rein in the latter’s anger against him on multiple occasions. Still, he has always known there would be a chance Ali might do something rash. For the same reason, he tips Miranda off early on, advising him to wear a Kevlar bulletproof vest. As such, when he attacks the police officer at night, the bullet never actually punctures his body. Therefore, even though Ali believes Lyès has killed Miranda, and the police corroborate this story, the man is actually alive and lying low for the time being.
What Happened to Sidi’s Shipment? Why Did Lyès Lie About It?
Sidi’s shipment plays a huge role in the surprising conclusion of Lyès’ narrative. Initially, according to his deal with Miranda, the ex-cop has to reveal the destination of Ali’s drug shipment so that the authorities can make a bust. Nevertheless, he ends up feeding wrong information to his own former team, led by Alice and Arno. As a result, when they arrive at the docks, hoping to secure some much-needed evidence, all they find is an empty container. This is because, despite collaborating with Miranda and the cops, Lyès has decided against betraying Ali’s trust regarding the shipment. He knows that this final deal is the crime boss’ ticket out of the underworld and into a normal life.

Furthermore, in the time since his jailbreak, Lyès has found actual trust and safety with Ali, something that he can’t necessarily say for Miranda, who is only interested in using him for her own benefit. Additionally, he also knows that Ali would never be able to recover if he loses Sidi’s merchandise. As a result, when it comes down to it, he decides to divert the shipment at the last minute in order to secure Ali’s products for him. Although this decision ends up doing little good for the latter, it directly influences the conclusion of Lyès’ narrative in season 2. Since he’s the one who saved the merchandise and currently knows about its whereabouts, Chris is interested in pitching him as the Saidis’ successor. Still, whether or not the fugitive decides to take this opportunity remains yet to be seen.
