Lamar Silas has been an integral part of ‘BMF’ for some time now. Even as the show takes a break from the character for most of season 3, he inevitably makes his way back to the Flenory Brothers in season 4. Initially, it seems the criminal is ready to turn over a new leaf and walk away from the life of crime and danger. Nonetheless, a menacing visit pulls him back into the game, revenge and retribution becoming the motivations for his reckless misadventures. The path he takes ends up taking him close to Meech and Terry, his longtime enemies. Yet, each time, the satisfaction of revenge seems just far enough out of reach to result in failure. In turn, his efforts consistently bring him one step closer to death. Even so, Lamar has historically had a complicated relationship with death, in that he always manages to evade the worst in the nick of time. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Lamar Gets Shot in Season 4’s Final Showdown
Lamar faces a near-death situation in season 2, after which he remains missing from the narrative for some time. Nonetheless, season 4 sees a return for the character. As it turns out, he has been engaged in various rehabilitation programs over the years, working toward overcoming his various addictions. However, right as he’s leaving his latest successful program, B-Mickie, a former BMF member, pays him a visit. Much like Lamar, the latter has an extensive history with the Flenory brothers, one that starts with childhood friendship and ends in bitter animosity. As it turns out, B-Mickie is looking for a way to slither his way back into Meech and Terry’s lives. For the same reason, he decides to use their biggest nemesis against them.
B-Mickie manipulates Lamar into attacking Meech and Terry while the duo is in Detroit for a family event. However, in the moment, he ambushes the other man, shooting him on the spot. In doing so, B-Mickie begins to establish a rapport with the Flenory Brothers, which eventually gets him back into the gang, which has been his plan all along. Nonetheless, unfortunately for him, his target survives the shooting. Lamar makes it out through the night, employing the help of his Mortician cousin. From there, it’s a one-track mission to reap revenge on his wrongdoers, with B-Mickie high up on the list. As a result, he ends up kidnapping the latter’s wife and daughter to blackmail him into agreeing to a meet-up that promises to end in bloodshed. However, his enemy ends up making him a different offer.
B-Mickie has plans to ambush Terry at an abandoned mall. Therefore, he offers the meetings’ details in exchange for his family, knowing Lamar would never pass up on the opportunity to get back at a Flenory brother. However, in the end, this meeting ends up being an ambush set up by Meech and Terry. When Detective Bryant, who has been secretly tracking Lamar, also shows up, the night inevitably ends in a shootout. B-Mickie ends up shooting Lamar before falling to his own death. Yet, while this presumably showcases his death, things aren’t always so simple when it comes to this character. Lamar has evaded death many times, to the point where his “having nine lives” is a common attribute of his storyline. Therefore, since we never truly see him succumb to his demise, there’s always a chance that he’s still alive.
Eric Kofi Abrefa’s Future With BMF Remains Ambiguous
Given the uncertain nature of Lamar Silas’ fate in ‘BMF,’ his actor, Eric Kofi Abrefa, remains in a similar gray area regarding his future with the project. In a conversation with Variety, showrunner Heather Zuhlke discussed the character’s situation. He said, “I know the audience loves him (Lamar), but I feel like he has lived his nine lives.” He further added, “At a certain point, as storytellers, if we were to get a fifth season, we want to be able to have new villains. That being said, Lamar does have nine lives, so you never know until you see the body in a coffin and buried.” Consequently, it’s evident that even behind the scenes, Lamar’s fate remains uncertain, keeping the possibility open for the character to make another return from the edge of death.
Therefore, depending on the creative vision the showrunners decide to execute, Abrefa may or may not return to the project for another installment. As it stands, there’s plenty of room for Lamar’s storyline to progress through the narratives set up in season 4. During his time with Aisha and Vee, B-Mickie’s family, the gangster delved into his own past, sharing his desire for some domestic normalcy. This, paired with his previous attempts at rehabilitation, showcases a possible journey of redemption for the character. Even so, there’s always a chance that the show decides to drop the character entirely, confirming his death this time for good. In such a scenario, fans of the actor can still expect to follow a riveting future acting career with promising projects, such as the Stephanie Boateng short film ‘Locked-In,’ which is set to feature Abrefa.
