BMF Season 4 Episode 7 Recap: Enemy Within

In ‘BMF,’ the Flenory brothers continue to find themselves in a tight spot as the walls around them begin to close in. Detective Bryant remains diligent as ever in his search for Demetrius, aka Meech. However, where the loyalty of his gang members has saved the leader until now, all it takes is one bad apple for things to go wrong. Nonetheless, complications in St. Louis continue to keep Meech distracted from seeing the big picture. Worse yet, his musical endeavors also threaten to crumble as his leading star’s life spirals out of control. Therefore, with much trouble brewing on the horizon, the BMF head must find a way to keep his cool and navigate every crisis as it emerges. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Meech Gets Rid of J-Pusha

In his list of things to resolve, J-Pusha retains high priority. His backstabbing ways and easy inclination toward violence have ensured that BMF can’t effectively continue its business in St. Louis. However, without the city on their roster, profit will inevitably remain out of reach for the gang. Therefore, Meech has to keep his focus on his friend-turned-enemy. In turn, J-Pusha also grows frustrated with the Detroit-based gangster. In his efforts to even the playing ground, he ends up doling out death to innocent family members of his adversaries at the Seal Moors. One of his victims ends up being Keeya’s sister. Naturally, this ignites fires of revenge in the young woman.

Keeya has a long-standing relationship with J-Pusha since he was the one who looked out for her after her father’s death. Furthermore, she’s dating Carter, the former’s right-hand man. Therefore, it’s easy enough for her to infiltrate his lair and train a gun on him. Still, given their history, it’s hard for her to pull the trigger even in the wake of her sister’s death. Even though Meech arrives in the nick of time to rescue her, things remain tense. Ultimately, when J-Pusha gains the upper hand on her, Carter ends up doing the unthinkable and killing his boss. Thus, with the St. Louis gangster finally out of the picture, BMF can set up shop with the Seal Moors, with Keeya as the envoy, and continue their business.

Purdy’s Condition Worsens

Where Meech’s business gets better on the more shady front, his recently launched record company, Stomping Grounds, continues to suffer. Purdy, the R&B singer-turned-rapper, was recently involved in a shootout that put her in the hospital for a few weeks. The incident was instigated by his previous record label, which was angry about losing her to the Flenory brothers. In the end, even though the musician survives the attack, it leaves her more than a little shaken up. Inevitably, the near-death experience further aggravates her secret cocaine addiction. Her continued use of the substance on top of her pain medication takes a heavy toll on her body.

During one recording session, her friend and fellow Stomping Ground artist, Tina, advises her against continued usage. Nonetheless, the latter eventually returns to the studio to find the rapper knocked out due to an overdose. Once she discovers her friend, Tina sends her off to a rehabilitation center. However, she’s dealing with her own issues, namely an unwanted pregnancy, to stay by the other artist’s side. Eventually, Meech arrives as a saving grace, helping the former with her visit to the abortion clinic. Furthermore, he even tries to visit Purdy at the rehab center to support her while she’s down. Unfortunately, the clinic informs him that the musician has checked out on her own. Thus, it seems nothing but trouble is in store for the rapper in her future.

Terry and Markisha Gamble For Fortune

While Meech puts out new fires as they arrive, he fails to keep his brother in the loop. Their unpleasant business trip to Mexico has cleaved a gash between the two brothers that seems insurmountable. Consequently, Terry remains worried about their finances, unable to see a clear way forward. For the same reason, he resorts to a risky solution. He has a standing invitation to a high-profile gambling den in Vegas. Although his previous run-ins with the dark side of gambling should put him off the idea, he decides to take a chance and gamble for his future. Thus, Terry and Markisha find themselves at Imani’s den, ready to roll some dice.

While Terry has an initial bad bout of misfortune, his luck soon changes, allowing him to win a few choice rounds. Nonetheless, when the time comes to collect, one of the other players, athlete Tank Hamilton, leaves without settling his score. However, Markisha’s resourceful ways ensure that the duo doesn’t incur any losses. During their visit, she coincidentally manages to charm Tank’s wife and get her home address. Eventually, after a thunderous argument with Meech over his decision to ask Nicole to smuggle some cash, Terry ends up gravitating toward Markisha. As a result, she convinces him to take back what’s his and attack the athlete in his own house. While this plan proves to be financially beneficial, one can’t help but wonder how this will aggravate the younger Flenory brother’s relationship with Meech.

Bryant Gets a Lead on Meech

As the Flenory brothers enjoy their own victories, their adversary, Detective Bryant, comes close to winning a round of his own. Thanks to an elusive informant, he has managed to stake out outside the house of a possible person of interest. After observing unusual behavior from his target, he gathers enough trust in the tip to request a warrant from his superiors. Even though interdepartmental drama makes this a long shot, he manages to get his hands on the much-needed warrant. Consequently, he’s able to arrest the young man and search his grandmother’s house.

The discovery of two packages of cocaine promises great things for the detective. He’s able to put pressure on the kid through these narcotics, threatening him with prison time. In fact, Bryant even ropes his grandmother into the fold, insisting that she would also face criminal charges and a prison sentence over her grandson’s mistakes. Ultimately, the thought of his grandmother spending the rest of her life in prison breaks the kid. As such, he ends up agreeing to a deal with Bryant, involving his own freedom at the cost of Meech’s incrimination.
