Bodycam Plot Synopsis

Officers Bryce and Jackson respond to a call at a house in a dangerous neighborhood. Inside, they hear violent screams. Jackson goes upstairs while Bryce finds a deep floor pit with the word “Rise” written on the wall. Jackson finds a bleeding dog and Satanic symbols, then encounters a silent, bleeding woman. Bryce confronts a man making odd noises and, feeling cornered, shoots him. Jackson rushes in to find that the dead man was carrying a baby. The bleeding woman sees the scene and runs, threatening the cops with a broken bottle. She utters, “He Sees You,” and slits her own throat. Shocked, Jackson wants to call for backup, but Bryce, fearing an investigation, insists they shouldn’t. They worry about the bodycam footage. Bryce calls his wife, Michelle, to say he won’t be home.

Upon examining the woman’s body and finding no exit wound, Bryce decides they must frame the dead woman for the man’s and baby’s murder and declare her death a suicide to protect his career. Worried about the bodycam, they step outside for air. Bryce starts acting strangely, seeing blurry visions. They go to a local store and enter a secret door to meet Esposito, a masked woman. Bryce asks Esposito to tamper with the bodycam footage to delete the parts showing the deaths. Before deleting, they watch the footage. When Esposito sees the part with the bleeding woman and the broken bottle, she stops, refusing to help. She leaves, telling the cops, “He owns them.” They immediately get a dispatch call about the woman with the slashed throat. They rush back to the house, but the woman’s body is gone.

They see a Satanic symbol drawn on the wall, which causes Bryce to go into a trance-like state and bleed from his nose. Jackson helps him to the car, and they drive away. A group of people blocks the road. Jackson steps out, and one man tells him, “You took something from us.” When Jackson asks them to move, they laugh maniacally before clearing the path. Jackson takes Bryce to Ally’s house, his mother, a respected community member who helps drug addicts. Ally tries to help the troubled Bryce. It’s revealed that Jackson’s sister died a few years ago. A drug-addicted girl staying with Ally tells Jackson, “You take something from me, I take something from you.” Bryce tells Ally about the incident, though she doesn’t like cops.

Jackson sees several individuals in a trance, staring upward, uttering the same words as the drug-addicted girl. Bryce, experiencing interference, pulls away from Ally’s hold. Ally warns them, “He” is watching, and tells them to leave. The zombie-like individuals repeat the words as Bryce and Jackson leave. Driving away, Bryce calls his pregnant wife, Michelle, but she doesn’t answer. They head to Bryce’s house, seeing the same Satanic symbol. Inside, they find Esposito tied to a chair. When they free her, she starts vomiting blood and speaks in a demonic voice, telling Bryce he failed to protect his wife and that “He” has her. Esposito enters a trance, and the lights dim. Bryce and Jackson go back to the group of people who blocked the road earlier.

They hold a man at gunpoint, demanding to know where Michelle is. The man leads them inside a house with Satanic writings. Bryce starts bleeding again. The man repeats, “You take something from him, he takes something from you.” Bryce shoots him point-blank, and immediately experiences pain and strange sensations. In the bathroom, a bleeding girl appears behind Bryce. The door is locked, and Jackson tries to get in. The woman with the slashed throat appears and repeats the same words. When Jackson breaks in, he sees a bleeding Bryce and Satanic symbols on the wall.

Bodycam Ending: Is Bryce Dead or Alive? What Does Jackson See in the Basement?

Bryce steps outside and tells Jackson that the strangers have Michelle and are hurting her on the roof. Bryce cries after seeing something and says that the strangers have killed Michelle. However, Jackson sees that no one else is on the roof. Overcome by sadness, Bryce shoots himself from the edge of the roof and falls down, landing on the car, dying instantly. Jackson rushes back downstairs and sees that Bryce’s body is no longer there. As Jackson drives, he keeps seeing visions of a house that seems to appear out of nowhere. Jackson calls Ally and asks her for help. She tells him that he is stronger than the one targeting him. Ally tells him that he is stronger than his sister, who brought “His” filth into the house. Jackson keeps driving and ends up in front of the house again.

Jackson takes his bodycam and says that there is a monster haunting him. He steps out of the car and walks towards the house. He starts hearing Bryce’s voice again on the radio, and he learns that Michelle is alive. Bryce’s voice asks him for help. But Jackson walks down to the basement and sees the deep pit again. He enters the pit and sees directions and symbols. Jackson communicates over the radio and asks if Bryce is there. He then sees a strange individual screaming and running. Jackson walks towards an isolated section and sees a huge tunnel and pathways. He hears a woman screaming violently and follows the voice. He walks further and hears someone running. The screams continue, and he takes an isolated stairwell. Jackson walks into a room and realizes that the one screaming is Michelle, trying to give birth.

Bryce, who is seemingly alive and bleeding, helps Michelle. Around them, several people stare upwards in a zombie-like trance. Bryce, whose face is disfigured, delivers the baby and says it is a girl. After this, everyone, including Bryce, Michelle, and the others, stares at Jackson. The lights go out, and Jackson experiences intense fear. Everyone stares at him, and Jackson sees a creature with tentacles arriving in the room. The creature screams, and Jackson runs away. Bryce, while still holding the baby, chases Jackson. While running, Jackson reaches a dead end and sees the Satanic symbol again. Bryce catches up and stares at Jackson again. A shocking moment unfolds when Jackson sees his dead sister, Neisha, appear in front of him. She is also a zombie-like individual and invites him to join them and be a part of their family.

Bryce is now in a state where he is neither dead nor alive. He unwillingly becomes part of the tentacled creature’s Satanic cult. Although Bryce is physically dead, his spirit lingers in his body, which is now subject to the will of the Satanic demon. Bryce pays the price for attacking one of the family members of the Satanic demon earlier in the narrative. The creature takes in vulnerable people from the area and transforms them into zombie-like creatures. Like Bryce, Neisha is also an undead creature whose soul is now tied to the will of the tentacled creature. The people blocking the road, the bloody man and the woman in the house, and several others are all part of the same group. Thus, Bryce dies in a physical sense, but his body and spirit are no longer his to control.

Does Jackson Die? Does He Transform?

The lights go dark around Jackson, and the creature with tentacles appears again and roars in front of him. Moments later, Ally leads two other cops towards the house to help her son. She tells the cops that they have no idea what they are dealing with. Ally recognizes the house, and the cops hear some interference from the radio. Ally tells the cops that her son is downstairs. The cops and Ally walk towards the basement and see Jackson in a trance. Ally sees her son bleeding. Jackson appears to have become one of “them.” Jackson says that “She is rising.” After this, Ally is shocked to see Neisha appear out of the floor pit. The cops and Ally are shocked, and the other zombie-like creatures appear. Neisha tells Ally that they have been waiting for her and that they can all be a family again.

Jackson meets his end in ways similar to Bryce’s death. With nothing in his control, Jackson is taken by the tentacled creature against his will. He now transforms from his human form and becomes a zombie-like creature bound in servitude to the Satanic cult led by the tentacled creature. Seeing his dead sister also makes Jackson vulnerable in the moment. Despite his best efforts to understand the events unfolding in front of him, Jackson finally realises that he is just a tiny part of the puzzle. Even before he can think or say anything, his transformation is complete. Jackson’s new reality also shows that he was never in control of the situation and was destined to meet his end in a brutal manner.

Is Ally Dead? What Does the Creature with Tentacles Do?

Ally and one of the new cops fall into the floor pit, leading to a tragic end. Ally’s situation is compounded because of her grief as a mother. She deals with the death of her daughter due to drugs and attempts to help others get over their drug addictions. However, this obsessive grief takes over her and makes her succumb to her vulnerabilities. Towards the end, when she sees her dead daughter appear in front of her again, she intends to run away, but ultimately can’t because her destiny is always tied to the fate of her children. Now that both of her children are under the control of the Satanic demon, she realizes that she cannot stay away from them. Jackson and Neisha are her family, and she is forced to be part of their lives.

As she falls down the floor pit with one of the new cops, she enters a different reality and becomes an undead follower of the creature. The other cop then sees Jackson, his sister, and the tentacled creature appear, and they take him away, making him part of the zombie-like group. The tentacled creature is essentially a demonic spirit on earth, targeting the weaknesses of human beings and dragging them away from their mortal forms, and making them servants of Satan. Unknowingly, many vulnerable individuals become victims of the creature who relishes the pain and insecurities of human beings.

What is the Deeper Significance of the Satanic Cult and the Symbol?

Throughout the narrative, a Satanic symbol keeps appearing on walls and other places where violence takes place. The meaning of the symbol remains mysterious throughout the narrative, but there are enough hints to understand the real significance of this particular symbol and the cult that it belongs to. The film uses the symbol and the cult to deliver a deeper message about the issues of drug abuse and drug addiction. Though the symbol and cult are essentially supernatural horror elements that fit into the tone of the film, they actually convey how drug addiction can alienate human beings from their nature and make them something completely different. The members of the group who block the road in the story act without the ability to make decisions on their own. They are essentially just spirits under the influence of a higher entity that utilizes them for nefarious purposes.

Through the image of the creature, the cult, and the symbol, the story conveys how substance abuse can lead to serious consequences. The main example here is that of Jackson’s sister, Neisha. It is hinted by the narrative that Neisha was a victim of drug abuse and died as a result of the same. Instead of attributing her death directly to her drug issues, the narrative combines this tragedy with supernatural elements and disturbing symbols to narrate how she faced a sense of isolation in her death and wanted to be close to her family. Thus, the symbol and the cult are not mere horror devices and convey a more profound commentary on the value of life.
