Bon AppéSweet Shark Tank Update: A Healthier Spin on Chocolate Treats

It has now become a conscious choice for individuals to indulge in dessert without compromising their health for the sake of flavor. As more people strive to balance enjoyment with wellness, the demand for treats that nourish the body has never been higher. This is precisely where Bon AppéSweet enters the conversation. It is a dessert company with a mission to offer customers something sweet while keeping it nutrient-dense, without relying on artificial or processed ingredients. Their appearance on season 17, episode 9 of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ marked a pivotal moment, giving the founder a stage to share her vision of mindful indulgence.

Bon AppéSweet: Who Are They and What Do They Do?

Before the founder of Bon AppéSweet, Thereasa Black, came up with the idea of the brand, she was building a path shaped by education, service, and resilience. She began pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising with minors in Psychology and African American Studies at Temple University in 2005, before graduating in 2009. Driven by a passion for advocacy and justice, Thereasa then earned a Doctor of Laws from The George Washington University Law School in 2017. She began her professional journey long before, in September 2005, when she stepped into the role of Manager at Temple University. Thereasa continued to hold the position until July 2009 before transitioning into the same role at Great Escape Theaters in the following month.

After leaving the establishment in March 2010, Thereasa became motivated by a deeper sense of purpose. It led her to join the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. After serving her nation with pride, she finally returned from her last deployment in April 2019. Between her deployments, her legal career also began to take shape. From May to July 2015, Thereasa worked as a Summer Law Clerk at the New Orleans Public Defender’s Office. It was followed by her role as a Legal Intern at the DOJ Bureau of Prisons from May to August 2016. Soon after, she transitioned to the position of Volunteer Student Attorney for the Rising for Justice initiative, before leaving in May 2017. Ultimately, in March 2019, Thereasa stepped into the role of CEO at Amore Congelato.

In that venture, Thereasa went to farmers’ markets and began selling her own versions of gelato and sorbet, which served as healthier alternatives. She ran the business until February 2021, during which time she developed the idea for Bon AppéSweet. When a deployment took her away from her daughter for over 13 months, it left her devastated. She discovered on her return that her daughter loved desserts, but most of them were made with processed sugar. Since Thereasa didn’t want to take desserts away from her daughter, she decided to create something sweet but with healthier ingredients. That vision ultimately led to the launch of Bon AppéSweet in February 2021. Moreover, Thereasa continues to expand her impact as a Motivational and Public Speaker since December 2022 and as an Advisory Board Member for Warrior Rising since January 2023.

Besides that, Thereasa is an author who has written the books ‘Nevaeh’s Hope’ and ‘Amore Congelato: The Frozen Love of a Mother Deployed.’ After fully channeling her energy into Bon AppéSweet, she achieved a significant milestone by winning The Empower Project, securing a $700,000 investment. Additionally, the company raised $900,000 in early-stage venture capital funding. Today, the brand is recognized for its desserts, which are sweetened with fruit-based sweeteners. Their date-sweetened chocolate bars contain no sugar alcohols or processed sugars. In addition to being entirely plant-based and dairy-free, their chocolates are free of soy and gluten. Moreover, the cacao used for their products is sourced from Peru, ensuring that they uphold Thereasa’s vision of creating healthier desserts.

Bon AppéSweet: Where Are They Now?

During their appearance on Shark Tank, Thereasa accepted two deals: a $100,000 offer for 10% of her company and a $75,000 offer for a 10% stake. Additionally, Bon AppéSweet will receive strategic guidance from the two sharks to help her expand her business. The brand has consistently experienced sales growth, both online and offline. Customers can easily purchase their products from their website. Alongside that, they have also extended their presence in physical stores across New York, Massachusetts, and Texas, including Beyond Natural Market and Buick Street Market & Café, among many others. In December 2025, the brand opened its chocolate shop in Leonardtown, Maryland. Bon AppéSweet offers its customers a wide array of products, like Chocolate Bars, Bitties, Beyond Milk Chocolate products, and Fresh-Roasted Coffee.

Bon AppéSweet’s Chocolate Bars are available for just $8.50 in variations such as Golden Chocolate, On the Mark Chocolate, and Better Than Milk Chocolate, with crispy rice or peppermint options. Their Beyond Milk Chocolate can be purchased for $4.50, with options like crispy rice, almond, and the general organic flavor. The brand’s innovation extends beyond these bars, as they also sell Date-Sweetened Chocolate Milk, starting at $3.50, and Date-Sweetened Chocolate Syrup, at $7.15. The Bitties can cost $5.99 to $15.99, depending on the type chosen. The brand offers multiple options for this product, including peanut almond, pecan bitties, espresso golden chocolate-covered, chocolate chips, and more. You can also purchase their Chocolate Variety Pack, which contains six of their chocolate bars, for $42.08.

For gifting, the $55 Gift Box has become a popular choice, featuring a large variety pack, a mini sweet variety pack, and a mini dark variety pack. The Gift Boxes can even be customized with personal notes during checkout. Bon AppéSweet’s Roast-to-Order Fresh Coffee Beans are priced at $14.95 and can be selected by roast type: medium, medium-dark, dark, or light. Alongside food products, the brand also offers merchandise, including shirts at $21 and gift cards ranging from $10 to $100. Bon AppéSweet’s presence on social media has continued to grow, serving as a space where they often highlight their team while expressing gratitude for the people who help power the brand. Their momentum accelerated in September 2025, when they announced that their products were now available at Sam’s Club and Walmart.

By October 2025, Bon AppéSweet had reached another significant milestone with the acquisition of Beyond Milk Chocolate, a chocolate company. In that very same month, Thereasa appeared on the podcast ‘The Duck Pond,’ where she shared insights into the brand’s core values, which are rooted in devotion, integrity, and flavor. In November, they announced that they would share a portion of their annual profits with the Wounded Warrior Project, reinforcing their commitment to giving back to veterans, as the founder herself is a veteran. By the following month, they revealed information about their newly launched Shark Chocolate bar, which costs $8.50. Looking ahead, Bon AppéSweet continues its story of purpose-driven expansion, with an outpouring of positive reviews.
