Boris Mojsovski is all set to return to the director’s chair for a feature after a long break of around two decades! Moviedelic can reveal that the award-winning cinematographer will direct the drama film ‘Foreign Tongue’ next. The movie will enter production in Toronto, Ontario, on January 20, 2025, and wrap up by February 7, 2025. Mojsovski and Cynthia Ashperger wrote the screenplay.

Set in 2011, the plot revolves around a talented singer whose life takes an unexpected turn after an accident leaves her with a rare condition called Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS), causing her to speak in a foreign accent. Kathy moves from Vancouver to Toronto, where Sarah, a childhood friend, helps her thrive professionally as a recruiter. However, she remains closed off and cynical when it comes to her dating life, specifically after her divorce. One night, as she hurriedly flees the venue of a speed dating event, she falls and hits her head, causing a stroke that leads to her developing FAS. Kathy wakes up from a coma with an Eastern European accent, and her new speech turns her life upside down as she loses her job and sense of identity.

With few friends to rely on, Kathy takes the advice of her doctor and a sympathetic janitor who point her to an English as a Second Language (ESL) class to reduce her strong accent. There, she finds introducing herself as a Bosnian immigrant simpler and meets a group of friendly students. Even though she has little to no knowledge of Bosnia, she is accepted by the group, who finally tears down her walls of cynicism. As she begins to create a promising career for herself under her new persona, she meets David, and sparks fly between them.

Mojsovski is primarily known as a cinematographer of famed TV shows like Max’s ‘Titans,’ NBC’s ‘Taken,’ and Syfy’s ‘12 Monkeys.’ As a Bosnian refugee who immigrated to Toronto, the filmmaker can rely on his own experiences to authentically delve into immigrant stories. He made his feature directorial debut in 2002 with ‘Three and a Half,’ which follows three artists who come together on a subway to weave poignant tales with themes of displacement that seem to come to life around them.

Mojsovski followed it up with ‘Neil,’ a 2005 sci-fi film. He has more recently directed five episodes of ‘Titans’ and an episode of Peacock’s ‘The Lost Symbol.’ As a DOP, his latest credits include Paramount+’s ‘Rabbit Hole.’ Cynthia Ashperger will be making her film writing debut with ‘Foreign Tongue.’ A playwright and an actress, she has appeared in films and shows like ‘Murdoch Mysteries,’ ‘Violation,’ ‘Orphan Black,’ and ‘ZOS: Zone of Separation.’

Toronto is a prominent hub of filmmaking and has previously hosted the shooting of romantic comedies like ‘My Old Ass,’ ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,’ ‘Lars and the Real Girl,’ and ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding.’
