Bosch Legacy Season 3 Episode 7 and 8 Recap

Things are never simple for Harry Bosch and his trusty companions, which is only amplified in episodes 7 and 8 of ‘Bosch: Legacy’ season 3, titled ‘Welcome To The Other Side’ and ‘La Zona Rosa.’ After the events of the last episode, Bosch is on a mission to find out more about Robertson’s death, which he believes was a planned execution of the highest order. However, this thread of thought leads our main characters to a challenging investigation with a lot of moving parts. The constant subterfuge and deception make it all the more complicated, leading everyone on a different path to the same goal. Meanwhile, things finally spice up as Vasquez finds her morality compromised while trying to rescue her nephew Albert before the walls of the law close in. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The Charges of the People vs. Diego Perra Case Split Opinions

Episode 7 gets us straight into the action as the People vs. Diego Perra case gets underway, with Honey leading the plaintiff’s motion. However, within a few minutes of her arrival, we learn that Perra is only being charged with robbery and not Jimmy Robertson’s death, which leaves the entire gallery full of cops apoplectic. Subsequently, we witness Vasquez snooping around the police station as she finds a call log relating to the Melrose Bandits, the name attributed to the follow-home robbery gang. The officer finds an entire page with calls going to her nephew Albert. She tears the page and leaves for the day. Elsewhere, Bosch talks about Mo’s plans of getting his hands on the federal file while Honey receives a call from Chief Hughes, where she expresses her frustration with the DA for not pinning the murder charges on Perra.

In the morning, Maddie is surprised to learn that Vasquez has availed a sick day. She decides to continue tailing Nestor in the meantime. Bosch visits Robertson’s girlfriend, who expresses her sadness at the detective’s loss. She allows Bosch to move his clothes and other belongings out of the house. While sorting through them, the PI finds a card about a meeting at a local spot. On her free day, Vasquez confronts her nephew Albert directly about his association with Victoria and Nestor, who are both tied up with the Melrose Bandit investigation. Albert decides to maintain his innocence in front of Vasquez, even after she gives him a chance to come clean without any repercussions. Meanwhile, Mo begins his quest to get his hands on the federal files by contacting a familiar figure – Janice Morrell.

Bosch and Lopez Join Hands to Find the Truth

Bosch begins investigating the card he found in Robertson’s clothes by getting in touch with a DEA agent. He believes there may be a drug angle to his murder. We also learn that Perry Lopez is working with Bosch to find the truth about Robertson’s death. At the same time, Corvus Pike and Raquel Bowers track down Perra’s girlfriend for an additional round of questioning as per Honey’s request. They find some discrepancies about the night of the murder. They report it back to Honey, who is worried that Perra’s defense may try to use it to their advantage. Lopez stops by Bosch’s place to hand over a summary of Robertson’s case file while also pledging to help even further if needed. Vasquez learns from a brief conversation with her sister that Albert has been frequently visiting his great-grandfather of late.

Mo and Janice have a clandestine meeting at a public restaurant, where he asks her to help procure the federal files. Although she does not want to, Mo reminds her that she owes him. In the meantime, Maddie follows Nestor to a local convenience store, where she captures him talking to Albert on her phone while Bosch and Lopez find out more about a drug case Robertson was working on, which involved a murder victim. Honey receives a visit from councilman Patrick Currey, who wants to forge a deeper connection with the DA. His entire personality and pitch seem shady. Vasquez visits her father to check up on Albert’s visits. After snooping around the place, she discovers a box stashed with precious belongings stolen from others. She realizes that her nephew is deep in the web of this current spool of robberies.

A Bigger Conspiracy Reveals Itself While Maddie Faces a Dilemma

Lopez and Bosch’s investigation turns up even more curious stuff about Robertson’s drug case. Alternately, we learn that Diego Perra’s DNA was not found on the bullets used to kill Robertson, leaving Honey with an even bigger conundrum. Albert finds a new fence to sell his stolen goods, one that could move things in a discreet manner. At the same time, Maddie puts two and two together to uncover Albert’s involvement in the robberies and his shocking connection to Vasquez, a fact that was sure to come out sooner rather than later. Unsure about her next step, she visits her dad to gather more clarity about the situation, especially if Vasquez may be crossing the line to help Albert. Bosch tells her that she has to give Vasquez a chance to do the right thing before making the hard call herself.

Albert and Victoria hook up together before the former expresses his desire to leave town before the cops catch them. Although the latter is unwilling to uproot her life all of a sudden, Albert is insistent that he can make it work for the both of them. Later, she discovers the connection between her boyfriend and Vasquez while looking at some family photos on the refrigerator door. Mo receives a house call from Janice, who has the federal files he is looking for. One can sense the complicated history of their relationship from their conversation. For the time being, he lets her go while concentrating on the contents of the file she leaves behind. Maddie stops by Vasquez’s home to clear the air about her nephew. Rather than beating around the bush, Vasquez urges Maddie to just be honest. Maddie tells her that they need to talk about Albert.

Bosch learns from his DEA contact that Robertson was investigating a drug case involving “black ice and fentanyl.” He relays this information to Honey. According to the protagonist, someone sent a ticket to Robertson to set up the detective. Robertson likely went to the food stall thinking he was meeting with someone, only to be assassinated. Moments later, Honey receives a call from Corvus Pike, where she learns that the DNA on the bullets matches the murder victim who was involved in the drug case Robertson was investigating. It suddenly dawns on Bosch that a bigger conspiracy is at play, and Robertson may have been assassinated by “sicarios,” possibly something to do with a Mexican drug cartel, which explains the professional nature of the job.

A New Drug Lord Enters the Game Amidst Rising Stakes

The eighth episode begins with a brief look into a secretive drug operation run by an unnamed individual. He makes an example of a tardy worker by crushing his mouth on a steel bar, showcasing his ruthless streak. Subsequently, we see Vasquez mentally prepare in her car before she reports her nephew’s wrongdoing to her superiors at the LAPD. Although they are skeptical about why she did not come to them immediately, she still did the right thing, which allows her the opportunity to continue working on the case. In the meantime, Honey meets with Roman Stallworth, Perra’s attorney, to talk about his client’s purported innocence in Robertson’s murder. However, the DA wants Perra to divulge any information he might have about Robertson’s real killer. Stallworth says he needs to speak with his client first.

Bosch and Lopez continue working on the murder case Robertson was looking into. A forensic analysis of the body reveals that a company called United Chemicals might be involved somehow. One of its factories is located in Lancaster, California, which is their next lead. Vasquez finds herself in a tough position as she juggles her personal relations amidst her professional responsibilities as a cop. Sensing an opportunity, Bosch gets in touch with his old military pal to help him track down more leads pertaining to the Gallagher case. He is trying to stay ahead of the game because there is a chance that things might get messy down the line. The same can be said for Victoria, who, after finding out about Albert’s connection with Vasquez, decides to come clean with her parents as she plots an escape plan.

Victoria Goes Rogue as Bosch Learns the Identity of the Real Killer

Albert receives a false phone call from the police, stating that he needs to go to the assisted living facility where his great-grandfather is staying because they are planning on relocating. It’s bait being set up by the cops to reel Albert in. However, he manages to step out of the trap after learning from his great-grandfather that nothing is out of order. At the same time, Bosch and Lopez arrange a meeting with Sherriff Garrity from the Lancaster branch. He sets the two detectives up for a tour of the United Chemicals factory, which is their primary interest. Elsewhere, Honey and her team start extracting information from Perra about his involvement in a drug cartel, which, according to him, is behind Robertson’s murder. Although he seems tight-lipped, he agrees to work with an artist to hash out the face of the man behind the operation, who goes by the name “The Pope.”

Sherriff Garrity shows his true colors as he meets up with the ruthless man from the episode’s beginning at a secret spot. He is working in cahoots with the man. Meanwhile, the cops waiting outside the assisted living home realize that Albert did not take the bait. Vasquez proposes to go inside by herself to check if she can get her hands on the stolen items once more. However, it is a futile exercise as the items have been moved, with a message left behind by Victoria. Garrity tries to get Bosch and Lopez in trouble by informing them about their latest visit to the latter’s higher-up in LA. Subsequently, Lopez gets a call to come into Chief Hughes’s office asap while he is out investigating with Bosch. The PI reminds him that he has to think about his career first.

Maddie and Vasquez decide to visit Victoria’s parents to see if they can find something more about the girl’s whereabouts. Although they are scared, they provide Vasquez with a burner phone that they can use to locate Victoria. By this time, Nestor and Albert are also aware that Victoria has gone rogue on them. Perra’s work with the artist helps the authorities pinpoint the identity of The Pope. His real name is Humberto Zorrillo, a dangerous man running a huge drug operation in California. Mo also surveys the United Chemical facility, during which he photographs Zorrillo in action. Bosch visits the motel where the murder victim, whose case Robertson was working on, was staying. After his brief chat with a local woman, he gets information from Honey that Zorrillo could be Robertson’s murderer.

The Melrose Bandits Meet Their End

Maddie gets a ping on the burner phone, alerting her that Victoria is at a local restaurant called La Zona Rosa. She and the cops get into gear while Vasquez feels nervous about the whole affair. Lopez also feels anxious as he sits down for his meeting with Chief Hughes. The latter checks up on his status while questioning why he is investigating by himself with Bosch as his company. At the La Zona Rosa, Victoria sells the stolen goods to the fence we saw in the previous episode. However, her deal is interrupted by Albert and Nestor walking through the door. They are both angry at her for leaving them out of the equation. While the fence leaves, Victoria tells Nestor that Albert’s aunt is a cop, which alarms the guy. He pulls out a gun and absconds with the cash.

Outside, the waiting cops take down Nestor, who tries to shoot the cops only to be shot dead himself. Sensing the game is up, Albert and Victoria escape through a back entrance, which puts them on a direct collision course with Maddie and Vasquez. The two cops follow the perps, with Maddie bagging Victoria while Vasquez chases Albert. After an emotional standoff, Vasquez puts the cuffs on her nephew and takes him into custody. Miles away, Bosch and Mo scour through the motel room where the murder victim was staying. During the search, Bosch finds a pack of black ice stuffed within the mattress. He informs Sherriff Garrity about the finding. Minutes later, a black truck pulls up with Zorrillo driving. The man exits the car and heads up to the room where Bosch is waiting for him. However, the tense scene comes to an anti-climactic end as Zorrillo walks away, sensing something is off.
