Although Joseph “Joey” Lagano was just a young boy when he began racing, he still grew up to be a rather shy and awkward teenager owing to the fact that he was homeschooled. Therefore, he didn’t have many social interactions with people his age away from the circuits, that is, until he was hired to drive the Zamboni at the ice skating rink his family owned. As admitted in Netflix’s ‘Full Speed’ season 2, little did he know that one thing would soon lead to another, and he would find his forever in the concession stand girl, Brittany Lynn.
Brittany Lynn and Joey Lagano’s Connection Grew Naturally
While it’s true that Brittany Lynn Baca was born in California, her family eventually relocated to North Carolina, where she first came across the Laganos via competitive figure skating. She actually developed a close friendship with Danielle Lagano, and it is through her that she met her brother Joey and later landed a job at the family ice rink’s concession stand. According to their own accounts, the now-racer had first seen the 15-year-old while she was skating before asking his sister to make an introduction because he was too shy to do so himself.
Brittany and Joey’s initial meeting was quite awkward, yet they still gradually managed to build a friendly bond while he also continuously tried to impress her. One way he did so was by drifting the Zamboni sideways in her sight whenever she was at work in an effort to show off, but that didn’t particularly work too well for him. In fact, it wasn’t until a Christmas party that the 16-year-old truly got her attention by doing a typical boy thing and embarrassing her by pulling a chair out from under her.
However, rather charmingly, Joey then offered to take her to the ice rink after hours for a quiet skating session to make up for his actions, which she happily accepted. “He took me there and it was a whole like Happy Gilmore moment, like the lights were low and he held my hand and asked for my phone number and the whole deal,” she recently revealed on the ‘Believe in the Good’ podcast. This led to them becoming officially involved – she was his first kiss, first girlfriend, and first everything – but they sadly broke up for a few years so as to grow as individuals before rekindling their romance for good at the age of 19.
Brittany Lynn and Joey Lagano Are Happily Married Parents of Three Today
As the years passed and Joey continued proving his mettle as a racer, he became sure that Brittany was the person he wanted by his side through every success or failure. He knew she is the love of his life, so in November 2013, he got down on one knee for her with not only a beautiful ring but also a matching seafoam green Thunderbird (her dream car). It was a year later, on December 13, 2014, that the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the Biltmore estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Brittany and Joey subsequently honeymooned across Costa Rica, unaware that their dream life would soon veer away from idyllic as the latter would lose his wedding band. As per his own accounts, he accidentally flipped a kayak while on a creek, following which the adrenaline rush was such that he didn’t even notice his ring was missing until 30 minutes after. He was really upset about this since he had only been married for mere days, yet both he and his newlywed wife knew there was no point in hoping to retrieve it from the bottom of some creek. Hence, upon the couple’s return home, he got a new wedding band, which he proudly continues to wear to this day – no matter what, that is one thing he never takes off.
As for how Joey has managed to juggle his career with domesticity over the years, Brittany asserts that he is the most present and dedicated partner since he never brings work home. Even on bad days or losing nights, he doesn’t let his profession come between his quality time with family because that’s the most important thing for him, apart from racing. Despite all his ambitions, this mindset of his has only strengthened since he and Brittany have welcomed their three children into the world – Hudson Lagano in January 2018, Jameson Lagano in May 2020, and Emilia Lagano in February 2022. This is also evident in the fact that he unabashedly spends most of his free time with his wife and kids.
Brittany Lynn and Joey Lagano Continue to be There For One Another Through Thick and Thin
Ever since Brittany and Joey went public with their relationship, they haven’t shied away from expressing how much their partner’s care, love, and support mean to them. The truth is they genuinely seem to have mutual respect, trust, and understanding between them, which makes them equals in every sense – so, their every experience, whether on the racetrack or at home, is a fruit of both their labors. The California native is the one primarily caring for their children as well as their household while her husband travels across the nation to compete in races. Still, it’s a path they have both willingly chosen, indicating they have both made sacrifices along the way to ensure they can give their kids the best life.
It’s also imperative to note that there appears to be an unconditional aspect in the support Brittany and Joey have for one another, which is how their relationship has stood the test of time. While she attends his races alongside their children whenever possible, he focuses on them and them alone when at home, and together, they even proudly run the Joey Logano Foundation. Through this organization, these Mooresville, North Carolina, residents focus on giving back to their community by offering unlimited recovery assistance to those children and young adults who are in crisis. Brittany’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte definitely help in this, and so does her husband’s public standing.
Regarding Brittany and Joey’s current standing, we should mention that these high school sweethearts are now reportedly working towards becoming licensed foster parents. They have been wanting to go down this path for years, but they always hesitated owing to the latter’s demanding schedule as a member of Team Penske in the NASCAR Cup series. However, following his third championship win in 2024 and some public conversations around fostering that they took as signs, they couldn’t ignore their desires any longer. Until they get the license, though, it seems like the parents of three are just focused on one another and their kids in every way, ensuring they undertake new adventures or travel together as a family.
