Cameron Williams: How Did the Former Faith Temple Member Die?

In TLC’s ‘The Cult of the Real Housewife,’ the primary focus is on ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ star Mary Cosby and the allegations against her way of running her church, Faith Temple Pentecostal Church. Besides exploring her life and the church’s history, the three-part documentary series also navigates the connection of a former congregation member, Cameron Williams, to Mary and his untimely and tragic demise.

Cameron Williams Contributed to the Community Through His Profession

Born on April 28, 1988, Cameron Russell Williams grew up in Crete, Illinois, alongside his twin sister, Morgan Williams, with whom he shared a close-knit bond. With a determination to leave a mark, Cameron began working hard from his teenage years. At the tender age of 16, he was employed at Ace Hardware, where he was responsible for managing the inventory. Meanwhile, he was participating in track sports at Marian Catholic High School. He also won several state championships in the long and triple jump categories. After graduating from high school, he pursued a degree in Economics and African American Studies at the University of Oklahoma, where he received a scholarship.

He was only 19 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, putting an end to his track career. Instead of dwelling on it and allowing it to dampen his spirit, Cameron decided to find something else he could excel in. As a result, he earned a full-time job at Goldman Sachs after a couple of weeks of internship. After leaving a lasting impact at the company over the years, he moved on to a new job at Domo, Inc., where he held a total of four positions in a span of six years. On the side, he also founded a transportation logistics company called EverWoke, which was eventually named Startup of the Year by Logistics Tech in 2019.

Thanks to his professional achievements, Cameron was on the list of Utah Business magazine’s “Forty Under Forty” in 2020. His contribution to the Utah community was also recognized by Impact Magazine’s article titled “Who’s Who of Black Utah” and KSL’s article titled “Black Voices: Improving diversity in Utah’s tech culture.” He also gave interviews to organizations like Traeger Grill, Rev Road, Utah’s Economic Development Council, and Harmons Grocery. A member of the Utah Black Chamber of Commerce, Utah Chapters of the National Association of Black Accountants, the Young Professionals of Salt Lake City, and the National Society of Black Engineers, Cameron Williams also played a crucial role in helping Living Color Utah and the Silicon Slopes tech organization.

Cameron Williams Met His Demise Shortly After His Brain Tumor Surgery

Robert and Mary Cosby

Keeping his professional front aside, Cameron Williams was also a faithful member of the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, run by its First Lady, Mary Cosby. In the docuseries, Mary’s cousin, Dan Cosby, claimed that Cameron had told him about his affair with Mary, who was married to Robert Cosby. Cameron allegedly told him that when he visited Mary at her home, she allegedly made sexual advances towards him. According to reports, during his seven years as a member of the congregation, he possibly donated more than $300,000 to the church and mortgaged his house. He also alleged that he had witnessed Mary and Robert commit several harmful deeds to his fellow church members.

After dissociating himself from Mary’s church, he got engaged to the love of his life, Indya. He was also the owner of two dogs, whom he considered his family. In May 2021, he wrote, “With tears in my eyes, joy in my heart, and praise in my spirit, I say this! I was just released from the hospital after having my 3rd brain surgery in the last 3 weeks! After thinking it was over after the first surgery, I had to have 2 additional emergency surgeries. I have spent almost the entire month of May in the hospital! I am finally home, standing on my own two feet!” He was looking forward to his wedding with Indya, with whom he planned to spend the rest of his family. Unfortunately, about a week after his release from the hospital, on June 3, 2021, Cameron passed away due to certain complications from his brain tumor surgery.
