Lindsey Ryan’s ‘Capsized,’ which was recognized by The Black List, is moving into production! Moviedelic can confirm that the film, with Ryan also at the helm, will start shooting in North Carolina on September 10. The production is scheduled to last five to six weeks until mid-October. The project is produced by Samantha Scolarici, Paul Mezey, Dan Janvey, Rebecca Wyzan, and Andrew Goldman, with Sara McFarlane and Jason Reil serving as executive producers.

The plot of ‘Capsized’ centers on Nicole Clark, the eldest of five, who uncovers an eviction notice during their family houseboat vacation. The Clark family’s idyllic getaway becomes a turbulent journey of self-discovery and redemption as they grapple with lost homes, fractured identities, and the enigma of a troubled patriarch.

‘Capsized’ is the debut feature film of Ryan, who has been developing the project for nearly two years. The Brooklyn-based independent filmmaker’s previous works include ‘What About David?’ a short film about mental health, and ‘Seasick,’ an LGBTQ+-themed short film that uses water as a metaphor for flowing emotions. ‘Seasick,’ starring Pauline Chalamet, was screened in numerous festivals.

Ryan also executive produced ‘Leylak,’ a short film that won the Tribeca Film Festival’s Grand Jury Award and was in consideration for Best Live-Action Short at the 94th Academy Awards. Her experience includes working as an intern on ‘Spielberg,’ a feature-length documentary about the legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

Among the producers, Janvey is known for receiving the Academy Award for Best Picture for ‘Nomadland,’ starring Frances McDormand. Goldman and Mezey were nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Feature Film category for ‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.’ The duo, along with Rebecca Wyzan, are also collaborating on another project: Max Walker-Silverman’s ‘Rebuilding.’

Scolarici has been a frequent collaborator of Ryan, having been creatively involved in all of her short films and editing work on ‘Seasick.’ McFarlane has produced several short films and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Film for ‘Red, White and Blue.’

‘Capsized’ will likely feature extensive scenic shots of the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring coastal locations in North Carolina. With principal photography scheduled to begin this fall, casting director Susan Shopmaker is handling auditions for various Clarke family members. Other projects filmed in the state include ‘The Conjuring,’ ‘We’re the Millers,’ ‘Blue Velvet,’ and Russell Crowe’s recent film ‘The Exorcism.’ North Carolina is also a popular filming destination for television projects, having hosted the shooting of series like ‘One Tree Hill,’ ‘Outer Banks,’ and ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty.’
