French cinema is set to deliver another compelling and emotionally charged tale as Mélanie Thierry and Eric Caravaca team up to star in ‘La Femme De.’ Moviedelic can report that Mélanie Thierry and Eric Caravaca have joined the cast of ‘La Femme De.’ David Roux is directing based on a screenplay by David Roux and Gaelle Macé. Principal photography is set to begin in January 2025 in Sarthe, France. Further details regarding the cast and crew remain under wraps.
The film’s title directly translates to “The Woman of,” and the story follows a 40-year-old wife of a rich industrialist who gets a chance to escape her stagnant life. As the model wife of a wealthy Lorraine industrialist and a caring mother to her children, Marianne is admired and envied. Yet, as she approaches her 40th birthday, the comfort of her expansive family home begins to feel like a trap. An unexpected window of possibility opens in her seemingly idyllic but monotonous life when shadows of the past resurface. Marianne is dazzled by the possibilities as they crop up in her mind, but the sickening claws of doubt aren’t too far behind, reminding her of the terrible costs of her liberation.
Mélanie Thierry is a seasoned French actress in her 40s and will likely headline ‘La Femme De’ as Marianne. Thierry began perfecting her craft at the age of 17 and became known for featuring in ‘Babylon A.D.’ alongside the sci-fi thriller’s star-studded cast which includes Vin Diesel. She is also recognized for her performances in ‘Memoir of War’ as Marguerite Duras épouse Antelme, ‘The Zero Theorem’ as Bainsley, ‘Da 5 Bloods’ as Hedy, and ‘The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch’ as Léa. Her latest film credits include ‘Soudain seuls,’ ‘Captives,’ ‘L’établi,’ and ‘The Family.’
Opposite her, Eric Caravaca will likely portray Marianne’s industrialist husband. Of Spanish origin, Caravaca is a prolific French actor who garnered attention for essaying Nicolas in ‘C’est quoi la vie?,’ a poignant drama about a farmer feeling trapped in his life and finding a way out through an unexpected romance. He continued to build on his reputation, leading the 2001 film, ‘La chambre des officiers,’ a World War I drama. Caravaca has recently featured in ‘Sentinelles – Ukraine’ as Alexandre LeQuellec, ‘Sur la dalle’ as Robic, ‘HPI Haut Potentiel Intellectuel’ as Dr. Xavier Decker, ‘Three Friends’ as Stéphane Leroi, and ‘Juliette au printemps’ as Stéphane.
‘La Femme De’ will be David Roux’s second film, and he made his feature directorial debut with ‘Breath of Life’ or ‘L’ordre des médecins,’ a heartwrenching drama written by him. It follows a lung specialist doctor who thrives in his hospital workspace, but finds his identity unravelling when his mother is diagnosed with a terminal illness.
‘La Femme De’ will be shot in Sarthe, a department known for its scenic countryside and historic architecture. Sarthe has hosted productions like ‘The Man in the Iron Mask,’ ‘The Amazing Race,’ ‘Le Mans,’ ‘A Man and a Woman,’ and ‘The Blue Room.’
