In the early hours of November 23, 2022, around 2 am, Catrina Pace received a message from her daughter, Jasmine Pace. It was simply a location pin from an apartment on Tremont Street in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At first, she didn’t think much of it, but days passed without any word from her. Growing concerned, the mother contacted the police and personally went to the location in search of answers. After Jason Chen’s arrest for Jasmine’s murder, Catrina’s persistence and actions became central to the investigation, and she even took the stand during his trial. NBC’s ‘Dateline: The Pin at Apartment 210’ explores the case in depth.
Catrina and Travis Pace Entered the Apartment of Her Daughter’s Killer
Catrina and Travis Pace had four children—Gabby, Enoch, Jasmine, and Travis—and raised them in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After their separation, Catrina found love with Scott Bean, and together they built a life. They even have a son named Aydan Bean. Her relationship with her ex-husband remained amicable, and the children maintained a strong bond with both parents. However, on August 31, 2016, Catrina’s life was turned upside down when her 14-year-old son, Travis, passed away. It was an incredibly difficult time for the entire family, but they came together and supported each other through their grief.
On November 22, 2022, Catrina lost her grandmother, and her daughters were by her side during this difficult time. She recalled that Jasmine, whom she lovingly called Jazzy, was especially upset by the loss. That evening, the latter sent a text saying she was going to stay with a friend. Catrina found it a bit unusual since it was the middle of the week, but she didn’t think much of it. At 2:18 am on November 23, she received a location ping from Jasmine’s phone, showing an apartment on Tremont Street in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Though she had never received a message like that before, she didn’t want to worry too much. However, on November 26, when she and other family members received a text from Jasmine’s phone, they became alarmed.
Jasmine had sent a message asking her family to leave her alone, and a picture was also posted on her social media. Catrina said this was extremely unlike her daughter, which made her increasingly concerned. Using the MyChevy app, she was able to locate Jasmine’s car, which was abandoned. Following the location ping from November 23, she traced it to Jason Chen’s apartment on November 27. Her ex-husband, Travis, accompanied her, and when they knocked on the door, there was no response. They let themselves in, and the former couple found Jasmine’s ID and credit cards in the apartment. That’s when Travis called the police and made sure that they saw Jasmin’s stuff on Jason’s counter. Catrina later testified she took several items, including phones, a tablet, and a notebook, hoping they would help her find her daughter. They finally started feeling a little at peace when the suspect was arrested.
Catrina Pace Settled a Civil Suit Against Jason Chen
During Jason Chen’s trial in January 2025, his defense team alleged that Catrina Pace had planted a knife on his bed to stage the crime scene against him. Catrina took the stand to defend her actions, stating she only did what she did because she believed the police were slow to act and not doing enough. She testified that she entered the apartment three times and even spoke with a neighbor who claimed to have heard a scream in the early hours of November 23. Catrina said she was desperate for answers and willing to do anything to find her daughter, Jazzy. Jason was ultimately found criminally guilty. Catrina had previously filed a civil lawsuit seeking $12 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The case was privately settled in March 2025.
Travis Pace is Doing His Best to Move Forward in Life
Like Catrina, Travis testified during Jason’s murder trial, but he wasn’t entirely satisfied with the way it concluded despite the guilty verdict and life sentence. That’s because the killer himself never took the stand to apologize or show remorse, which he believes took away the closure all of Jasmin’s loved ones needed to understand precisely what transpired. Nevertheless, because he still remembers his daughter as someone with incredible potential, he is now determined to lead a good, happy, healthy life for her – he wants her to be proud of him. So, today, the Chattanooga, Tennessee, resident serves as the CEO-Founder of Wealth Financial Investing Group, Hodges and Pace LLC, and Operation Support IDF. These are all this former Air Force officer’s companies, which focus on financial investment, real estate, and helping Israel through investment, respectively. We should also mention that Travis, a sports and travel enthusiast, seems to be in a stable romantic relationship as of writing.
