Why Did Chandi and Ryan Break Up? What Happened in the Bahamas?

If there’s one thing absolutely nobody can deny, it’s that Chandi Dayle was the epitome of elegance and grace on Netflix’s ‘America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ Season 2. As a 6-year veteran, she really knew where she stood in the team and was soon appointed 1st Leader of Group 1 too, only for controversy to arise when she did something “selfish” during a squad vacation to the Bahamas. This was to such an extent that it culminated in her long-term relationship with Ryan coming to an end, and her needing some time off for her mental health, so she lost her position as Leader too.

Chandi and Ryan Had an On-Again Off-Again Relationship

It was in the spring of 2020 that Chandi first came across Ryan on Hinge, just for there to be immediate sparks between them despite the fact the former wasn’t really open. After all, she had recently gotten out of an abusive relationship, with the man going as far as to stalk her, but in the end, her connection with Ryan fizzled out when he ghosted her. Then, 2 years later, she was in the gym when she saw someone she kind of recognized, and feeling confident, she decided to approach him.

This someone was none other than Ryan, and this time, he reciprocated Chandi’s sentiments to such an extent that their conversation soon led to a date, followed by another and another and another. The duo officially got together a short while later, quickly diving into the deep end owing to what they faced next. As per Chandi, her ex-boyfriend started stalking Ryan too, and it terrified her because he continued even after they got restraining orders against him. Nevertheless, Ryan didn’t walk away.

There were moments when things between Chandi and Ryan got heated as they had trouble adjusting to each otehr’s scheduled and had different needs as well as love languages, but they always got back together. They broke up and made up several times throughout their relationship, yet the former maintained that he was the only one who truly knew her and could calm her down. However, there wasn’t an emotional spark, so after her trip to the Bahamas, she broke up with him, telling him that he deserved better and so did she.

Chandi Emotionally Opened Up to Someone Else in the Bahamas

When the DCC squad traveled to the Bahamas for a small retreat together, Chandi was still in a relationship with Ryan. Yet, near the beautiful waters, she met a stranger, and as they got to talking, they opened up about similar things they’d experienced in the past. “I was just like crumbling down, and I was like, ‘Dang, I feel like I have no one here to talk to, and so it’s nice to have someone to confide in,'” she said in the aforementioned show. So, she invited this strange man back to her room to continue their conversation, which broke team protocol.

Chandi has always insisted that nothing sexual happened, but there were emotions involved since it really helped her feel better, unaware that her roommates were concerned for their safety since they had no idea who he was. “It helped me in the moment,” she added. “I get it, it was probably the wrong place and time to do that. But selfishly, I had to do it for me because I feel like I was just losing it.”

It was upon her return that Chandi realized this was because she wasn’t as fulfilled or secure in her relationship and life as she wanted to be, which led her to break things off with Ryan. The fact that she made her teammates uncomfortable also hung over them for a while, so she decided to take a break, and KayDianna MacKennzie took her place as Group Leader. What ensued was a bit of a divide between the team, but by the end, they’d come together again, with Chandi realizing the things she needed to work on and deciding to focus on them from here on out. As a result, after 6 years, she bid goodbye to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders too.
