Christina Lodrini Attempted Murder: Where is Courtenay Savage Now?

Christina Lodrini, a loving mother of five and a dutiful daughter, was residing in Clearwater, Florida, with her family in September 2006. She was inside her home with her partner and children when someone opened fire at her home. It kicked off an investigation that led the detectives to a person Christina considered close to her. HLN’s ‘Vengeance: Killer Coworkers: Lies, Cameras & Lingerie’ delves deeper into the attempted murder, which shocked not just her loved ones but also the community. Moreover, the episode features interviews with the attacker and the officials who uncovered a string of betrayals.

Christina Lodrini Was Inside Her Residence When the Shots Were Fired

Christina Lodrini comes from a hardworking family, where she was the oldest of the five children. She is known for her compassionate nature and her love for her family. After completing her education, Christina began her professional journey as a Patient Care Technician. Meanwhile, she crossed paths with Vincent Lodrini, and it wasn’t long before their relationship blossomed. Eventually, Christina and Vincent tied the knot in the presence of their family and friends. Within the next few years, they welcomed their five children into their lives, and the family settled down in Clearwater, Florida. Since her family relied on her, Christina realized her salary as a Patient Care Technician wasn’t enough.

Hence, Christina began working at the lingerie and aromatherapy store of her friend, Courtenay Savage. Gradually, they became close friends while working. In 2005, when Courtenay unexpectedly fell ill, she asked Christina to run her business. Unfortunately, Christina faced a predicament when the property owner refused to renew the lease, forcing the store to shut down. Christina eventually moved on to open her own lingerie store with another friend. On July 10, 2006, she was left shaken when someone broke into her new store after the opening. Detectives quickly ruled out attempted robbery since no items went missing from there, but considered it property damage. About an hour after the incident, Vincent’s minivan was shot at several times outside his Clearwater home.

As the investigation for those two incidents ensued, things took a significant turn on September 7, 2006. On that day, Christina, Vincent, and six children, including an infant, were present inside the home when someone fired six rounds at the residence. It left a bullet lodged in the wall, damaged the television, and shattered the windows. One of the bullets struck a mirror close to the sleeping infant, and the flying glass reportedly caused a minor injury to the 13-month-old. Christina promptly called 911 and reported the attack. Investigators noted that someone was targeting Christina, while the experts uncovered that the bullets were fired from a .357 caliber handgun. Fortunately, neither Christina nor any of her family members were further harmed during the attack.

CCTV Footage Led Christina to Suspect the Shooter’s Identity

After the break-in and car shooting incident, officials initially suspected one of Christina’s business rivals, Kristen, and Kristen’s boyfriend, Donald. However, after investigation, authorities were unable to link the couple to the crime. Following that, Christina had installed a CCTV camera in front of her residence. So, after the shooting on September 7, 2006, detectives first checked the surveillance footage, which captured a woman coming out of an SUV and shooting at the home. Police records indicate that they noted the shooter had a distinctive walk and fired in a specific way that is typically associated with law enforcement training. After looking at the footage, Christina reportedly identified the shooter as Courtenay, who was a former law enforcement officer.

However, the grainy video didn’t clearly show the attacker’s face. According to court records, detectives asked Christina to call Courtenay. During the call, Courtenay first denied her involvement in the attack, but she eventually blamed Christina for bringing Courtenay’s business to the ground. Official records suggest that Courtenay was angry because she believed the business failed after Christina took charge in her friend’s absence. On the call, Christina reportedly convinced Courtenay to meet her to give $2,500, and it led to Courtenay’s arrest just a few hours after the shooting. She was initially charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and resisting and obstructing without violence. Officials later filed 16 more charges against Courtenay, including six counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Courtenay was also charged with criminal mischief and aggravated assault with a firearm. Reports state that during interrogation, Courtenay confessed to the crime. She reportedly admitted to using a .357 caliber handgun, which she concealed at a family member’s property. She further confessed to using a rental car during the shooting. After posting her bond, Courtenay was scheduled to appear in court on July 20, 2007, but instead went on the run. As per records, she first went to Mexico, where she underwent plastic surgery, then spent a few months in Oklahoma before moving to Humble, Texas. On September 20, 2008, Courtenay was featured on ‘America’s Most Wanted.’ By September 22, a tip led authorities to arrest her near her Humble home. Courtenay was additionally charged with one count each of resisting arrest with violence and failing to appear.

Courtenay Savage is Incarcerated at a State Correctional Facility Today

After her re-arrest, Courtenay was initially booked into Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas, before being extradited to Pinellas County, Florida. She was originally set to appear before a jury during a trial. However, Courtenay avoided it by pleading guilty to all the charges against her, including six counts of attempted second-degree murder, criminal mischief, and failing to appear in court, on April 15, 2009. The prosecution reportedly presented a case before the court emphasizing the shooting incident of September 2006 that endangered the lives of Christina and her family in the home. In April 2009, Courtenay was sentenced to six 20-year concurrent terms in prison for the attempted murder charges.

Courtenay also received two concurrent 5-year terms for the remaining offenses. In 2012, she appealed the case on her own to the Supreme Court of Florida, arguing that her right to a fair process was violated. Courtenay also claimed that her counsel didn’t properly advise her regarding the penalty if she went on trial. Before that, the Appellate Court had affirmed her conviction in April 2012. However, no further public records specify details about the Supreme Court’s rulings. As of writing, Courtenay is serving her sentence at the Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala, Florida. Her current date of release is scheduled for June 8, 2028.
