Clement Virgo is returning to feature filmmaking from the world of television! The director’s next movie will be ‘Steal Away Home.’ The project’s shooting will start in Belgium on May 22. Virgo wrote the film with Tamara Faith Berger. The plot is currently under wraps but it is described as a “mashup of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ meets ‘Get Out.’”
Virgo recently helmed two episodes of Apple TV+’s ‘Dear Edward,’ which delves into the life of a 12-year-old boy who emerges as the sole survivor of a plane crash, navigating unexpected relationships and communities amid tragedy. Additionally, he directed two episodes of Netflix’s crime drama series ‘Monster,’ which explores the chilling story of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Virgo’s most recent feature is the musical drama ‘Brother,’ revolving around Toronto’s early hip-hop scene, following the lives of two Caribbean immigrant brothers as they grapple with themes of masculinity, identity, and family against the sweltering summer of 1991. His portfolio also includes episodes of ‘Greenleaf,’ which centers on the intricate world of the Greenleaf family and their Memphis megachurch, as well as ‘The Book of Negroes,’ chronicling the journey of a kidnapped African woman enslaved in South Carolina and her quest for freedom in the eighteenth century.
Virgo’s directorial credits extend to various other shows such as ‘Empire,’ ‘Billions,’ ‘Rogue,’ ‘American Crime,’ and ‘The Listener.’ He is also set to helm a few intriguing projects. One of them is the movie ‘Cyclone,’ which is about the life of Major Taylor, portraying his journey in confronting racism and emerging as the fastest man in the world through sheer determination. Moreover, he will direct ‘XOXO,’ a film scripted by Mark Heyman, exploring the story of an engaged professional who meets a compelling woman on Facebook, leading to unforeseen and ominous consequences as their virtual relationship turns real.
Berger is an author who gained recognition primarily for her acclaimed novel ‘Maidenhead,’ which earned her the prestigious Believer Book Award in 2012.
Belgium has hosted the filming of several popular projects over the years, including ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ and ‘All Quiet on the Western Front.’
