Consquelo Barker Murder: Where is Isiah Patterson Now?

Investigation Discovery’s ‘Evil Lives Here: It Was Like Watching a Demon’ chronicles the gruesome killing of Consquelo Barker, who was killed in Mesa, Arizona, in the spring of 2006. The news of her death devastated her children, including Shaquoia Anderson and Imani Cloman, both of whom feature in the documentary. As the investigators captured the perpetrator not long after the murder, Consquelo’s loved ones managed to get closure.

Consquelo Barker’s Screams Were Heard by the Residents in the Area Where She Was Killed

Born on January 18, 1974, in San Leandro, California, to Leo P. Barker and Carolyn F. Caldwell, Consquelo Latrell Barker was raised in a seemingly caring household along with her siblings. By the time she was in her 20s, she had become a mother to five children, including two daughters — Shaquoia Anderson and Imani Cloman. She embraced motherhood and went on to become a doting mother as her entire life revolved around them. When she was around 30, Consquelo got into a romantic relationship with a man named Isiah Patterson. As their bond grew stronger, Isiah moved in with her and her children.

Not long after, the couple welcomed a son into the world, making him her sixth child. With dreams of watching her kids achieve success in life, she had a lot to look forward to. Unfortunately, fate intervened and shattered all her dreams. On the fateful early hours of March 17, 2006, the 32-year-old mother of six was found dead outside a property in the 1300 block of South Vineyard in Mesa, Arizona. Several neighbors heard her screams of pain in her final moments and called the authorities. When the police arrived at the scene, they inspected her remains and the nearby areas. Upon further examination, the cause of her death was determined to be multiple stab wounds across her body.

Consquelo Barker’s Killer Turned Himself in After Committing the Murder

It turned out that Consquelo Barker’s boyfriend, Isiah Patterson, had also dialed 911 and informed the police about the situation. As a matter of fact, the murder took place right outside his home, and he admitted to being the perpetrator on the phone call with the 911 operator. On the outside, the relationship between Consquelo and Isiah appeared quite stable, but the truth was much darker. As soon as they began dating, the latter allegedly controlled her life in various aspects and was also allegedly physically violent towards her. Having control over the family’s finances, he also avoided paying electricity and water bills at times, making the Barker family live in darkness and without water, according to Consquelo’s daughters.

Finally, when she broke up with him, he stopped paying rent, and consequently, her family was evicted. It led to her separating from her children, except for one of her sons, and living with her sister. Still, Isiah allegedly continued to torment her by stalking her and showing up wherever she went. He had called her to meet their son in his Mesa apartment in the 1300 block of South Vineyard, hours before her murder. Around 1:30 am on March 17, 2006, the former couple got into a heated argument, which led to Consquelo running out of the apartment and going door to door for help.

Meanwhile, Isiah reportedly chased her down with a butcher knife. While running away from him, she allegedly slipped on the wet grass outside his house. He then proceeded to stab her a total of thirteen times, leading to her death. After he was done, the killer went back inside the house, where their 3-year-old son was still there. While he was on the call with the 911 dispatcher, he also said, “You had better get here quick. I just did something bad with a butcher knife.” The police arrested him at the scene without any incident and charged him with the murder of Consquelo Barker.

Isiah Patterson Was Supposedly Executed After Remaining on Death Row For Several Years

In 2009, Isiah Patterson stood trial for killing his ex-girlfriend, Consquelo Barker, outside his house in March 2006. By the end of it, the jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and recommended a death sentence. On December 4, 2009, the 64-year-old killer was sentenced to death for the horrific crime. Despite multiple efforts by his defense counsel to reverse his death sentence, the court rejected all the appeals and motions filed by him. For nearly two decades, he remained on death row, but it seems that on March 19, 2025, he was officially executed.
