Crooks Season 3 Cast and Plot Theories

Season 2 of ‘Crooks’ finds the same precious 18th-century Coin at the center of its narrative, this time with new dynamics at play. Set 2 years after the events of season 1, the story revolves around Charly, who has to retrieve the Coin in order to ensure his freedom. However, when he travels to Bangkok, Thailand, to reunite with Joseph, the last owner of the valuable token, an unpredictable domino effect is set into motion. By the end, Charly has made new enemies and allies in Bangkok’s criminal underground and has managed to strike up an unexpected partnership with Arkadij.

On the other hand, Rio, the last of the Bachofner clan, wins ownership of the Coin, but somehow still loses the battle. In the end, both individuals share a similar fate, wherein they’re forced to skip town for their own reasons. Unfortunately, even though this sets the narrative up for grand new misadventures in a possible season 3, its future remains ambiguous with no confirmed renewal. If another season is greenlit soon enough, the German Netflix series might return as early as 2028.

Crooks Season 3 Might Unravel in Brazil

At the end of ‘Crooks’ season 2, Charly and Samira are stranded in a precarious situation. After being hunted by the authorities and later Arkadij, the thief has made many enemies in town. However, a final confrontation against the local crime boss compels him to make a deal with him. This effectively changes their dynamic from enemies to allies against a shared enemy: Bargrat. The latter is a member of the Brotherhood who is eager for Arkadij to retire so that new opportunities can open up for his own progression. He reasons that the veteran criminal’s international arrest warrants and looming medical issues make him a liability for the organization. Nonetheless, Arkadij refuses to make his own annihilation easy for the other man.

Eventually, he teams up with Charly to lure Bargrat into a trap that leads to his death. While his participation in the scheme makes the thief richer by 2 million dollars, it also makes him a target for anyone who might want to avenge Bargrat’s death. At the moment, he and his family have Arkadij’s protection. However, given the dangerous medical operation he’s facing, the longevity of the crime boss’ life remains unpromised. For the same reason, Charly and his family decide to flee to another country. Although their future destination is never confirmed, we see another central character, Rio, on a plane to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Therefore, it’s highly possible that much like season 1’s Bangkok pitstop, season 3 might also unravel in another location, likely Brazil, at least briefly, before the story brings the characters back to Vienna.

Crooks Season 3 Might Bring Back Much of the Central Cast

Over the course of two seasons, ‘Crooks’ has lost many characters and subsequently cast members. Yet, certain characters have become the storytelling nucleus of the narrative, shaping the series’ overall identity. For the same reason, these individuals can be expected to make their return in the event of a potential third season. Consequently, fans can expect cast members like Frederick Lau (Charly), Christoph F. Krutzler (Joseph), Svenja Jung (Samira), Lukas Watzl (Rio), and Jonathan Tittel (Jonas) to reprise their roles.

Likewise, other characters closely connected to the central band of criminals are also likely to make a comeback. These include characters like Margo, Tamara, and Henning (Jan Georg Schütte). On the other hand, depending on how the narrative deals with Arkadij’s life-saving operation, the crime boss and his daughter, Katya/Katherina (Lili Epply), can also return to the series.Similarly, season 2 hints at the possibility of Somchai and his sister, the leaders of the crime syndicate in Bangkok, crossing paths with the protagonists again. However, it’s more likely that with a new season, the series will introduce new characters, further expanding the scope of the storylines.

Crooks Season 3 Could Continue Centering Around the Coin

The ending of ‘Crooks’ brings the fate of the central Coin into focus, highlighting its journey away from Vienna and to Rio. In both seasons of the series, the stolen token has been the inciting element that has set various storylines into motion. Therefore, it’s entirely possible that the narrative would want to hold on to this storytelling identity and bring the Coin back into the fold for a potential season 3. As we last leave it, the piece of treasure is in possession of Rio, who has decided to try his luck in the Brazilian city he shares a name with.

Notably, he happens to end up on the same plane as Muckerl, who was also previously infatuated by the Coin. On the other hand, as far as we know, the German authorities are still looking for the stolen artifact and will likely continue to do so in the future. Consequently, even though the Coin has lost its appeal to Arkadij, there are plenty of other ways that the treasure can return to the center stage in the future. Moreover, it can be used to expand Rio’s storyline, as he continues to desperately climb his way to the top without his family’s influence. Ultimately, while the details of any potential future plotlines are bound to vary, fans might see a reappearance of the destructive Coin.
