Tracy Morgan’s The Neighborhood Spinoff ‘Crutch’ Begins Filming in LA Next Month

The expansion of a beloved “neighborhood” will start soon! The filming of the Tracy Morgan-led ‘Crutch,’ a spinoff of CBS’ ‘The Neighborhood,’ will begin in Los Angeles, California, next month. Previous reports revealed that Owen Smith is leading the writers’ room, with Morgan also serving as an executive producer along with ‘The Neighborhood’ star Cedric the Entertainer.

Morgan takes on the role of Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, known as Crutch, to his close friends in this upcoming half-hour multi-camera series that will premiere on Paramount+. Crutch is a widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.

Morgan and Cedric previously co-starred on the former’s TBS comedy series ‘The Last O.G.’ Cedric was a series regular in season 1, later transitioning to a recurring role after ‘The Neighborhood’ was picked up by CBS. Additionally, Morgan collaborated with showrunner Smith on ‘The Last O.G.’ as well. The ’30 Rock’ fame previously made an appearance on ‘The Neighborhood,’ not in the role of Crutch, but as a guest character named Curtis, Calvin’s affluent younger brother. The appearance is in the fourth season episode titled ‘Welcome to Bro Money, Bro Problems.’

Cedric the Entertainer commented on the project, stating, “I’m excited to be expanding our ‘The Neighborhood’ universe by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan. This new character is the close cousin to my character, Calvin Butler, and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home and let’s just say there will be several comedic complications.”

Morgan further commented, “Crutch will be navigating the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof, and you know if I am doing this, there will be plenty of laughs along the way. I am so happy to be able to do this with my brother Cedric, The Entertainer, Owen Smith, and the rest of the amazing crew we have put together. Get ready for your new favorite show!”

Los Angeles is also home to the show’s original series, ‘The Neighborhood.’ Additionally, ABC’s sitcom ‘Abbott Elementary’ is shot in the city. Recently, Apple TV+’s ‘Palm Royale’ also utilized the city as its backdrop.
