Dan Da Dan Season 2 Episode 6 Recap: Does Jiji Survive the Exorcism?

‘Dan Da Dan’ on Netflix is a mystery drama anime series that navigates the complex friendship and budding love between Momo and Okarun. It delves into the ideas of the occult, aliens, mysteries, demons, and superpowers. As the two lead characters pursue their fascinations, they find themselves in increasingly weird and complicated scenarios. The previous episode ended with a silly error by Okarun where he drops a bit of soy sauce on Jiji’s hand, turning him into Evil Eye. The cold water in the sauce makes it possible for the entity to control Jiji’s body again, following which the others in the house are attacked. As Seiko seeks to free Jiji from the possession through Hayashi artists, Evil Eye seems to have plans of his own. These events set up stakes for ‘We Became a Family,’ the sixth episode of the second season. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The Hayashi Delivers an Epic Performance of Loud Music

The episode begins with a hilarious moment wherein Jiji returns to human form after hot water is poured on him. Okarun and Momo realize that Evil Eye is only getting more powerful, threatening to destroy Seiko’s house. As Aira and Momo have a funny argument about the situation, a group of four individuals arrives, revealing that they are the Hayashi performers. It is made clear that the Hayashi performers are just a regular music band that plays music loud enough to break into the spirit world. Momo is disappointed learning that the performers are not spirit mediums, but her grandmother is relieved, as evil spirits cannot corrupt them during an exorcism. Moments later, the band has a hilarious start to their performance as guitar strings detach.

However, when Seiko takes Jiji to the sacred shrine to liberate him, the band starts to loudly play the “Exorcism song,” much to the shock of Aira, Okarun, and Momo. As the band continues to deliver an epic performance, spirits around the area awaken, turning into viewers of the gig. Evil Eye continues to resist the music to the best of his ability, but ultimately begs for the music to be turned off. Momo uses her powers to hold Jiji’s body down. In an emotional moment, Jiji emotionally requests the people around him not to kill Evil Eye, because the spirit has only ever wanted to play with other kids since his childhood. Since the possessed boy made a promise to the entity, he intends to keep it and play with him. He even goes to the extent of saying that he won’t use cold water again.

Seiko Changes Her Mind About the Exorcism

Due to the heartfelt appeal of Jiji, Seiko agrees to enable Evil Eye to live with them, and calls off the exorcism, asking the band to leave. The lady’s decision shocks the others, as they begin to worry if Evil Eye should be constantly observed. Okarun promises to get stronger so that he can handle Jiji’s potential transformations, as he is a friend. Hearing this makes the possessed boy feel emotional. Momo also vows to get stronger herself to handle the entity. Seiko begins training Jiji to reach out to his inner spiritual energy to enable him to resist Evil Eye, so that they can co-exist peacefully in the same body.

Later, at night, Okarun helps the possessed boy by making sure that he doesn’t come in contact with cold water at any cost. The destruction caused earlier turned the house into a mess covered by weak cardboards, making the scenario riskier as cold water can reach Jiji from the outside. Okarun narrates a story about his attempts in the past to pay back Seiko and Momo for helping him out after Turbo Granny possessed him. He tells Jiji that despite his desperation to return favor, Seiko refused, telling him to care for others in trouble instead. This tale makes an emotional impression on the possessed boy.

Momo Works as a Waitress

The next morning, everyone has breakfast, following which Aira, Okarun, and Momo leave for school. The girls argue about each other’s sleeping patterns and the use of beauty products. At school, Momo says that she wants to get a job, fix her house, and make it warm again, because it has been ruined by Evil Eye. Miko tells the protagonist that Ririna’s restaurant is looking to hire part-timers, following which Momo vows to stick with the new job if she gets hired. Muko and Miko hang out with a reluctant Okarun after telling him that his friend is starting a new job. The two girls hilariously drag him outside to go on a friendly date with them. Okarun awkwardly spends time with the two, who eventually lead him to the restaurant where Momo is working. Seeing his friend dressed differently makes the protagonist nervous.
