‘Dan Da Dan’ on Netflix follows the adventures of Okarun and Momo as they traverse the world of aliens, the occult, the supernatural, ghosts, monsters, and their own feelings. Despite their conflicting personalities, they develop a strong bond and stick with each other through the ups and downs of life. In the future show, the themes of friendship, love, adventure, and courage are explored in a poignant manner. The previous episode ended with Okarun trying to regain his fighting rhythm with Turbo Granny’s help. Keen to defeat Evil Eye, he wishes to be faster and better.
When Turbo Granny begins to train him with musical notes, the angered souls of Beethoven and other musical geniuses appear, hoping to destroy those who play unpleasant notes in their presence. The tram of Okarun, Turbo Granny, and Aira realizes that they are in danger of being overpowered by the souls of the musical legends. This sets things up for “You Can Do It, Okarun!”, the eighth episode of the second season. SPOILERS AHEAD.
The Angered Team of Beethoven’s Soul Strikes Okarun’s Group
The episode begins with Okarun, Turbo Granny (cat figurine), and Aira being targeted by the souls of Beethoven and other musical geniuses for playing foul sounds on the piano. The three use their special abilities to counter the musicians, who send out deadly exploding notes that have to be dodged. Beethoven’s soul starts to play the Pastoral Symphony, called “Symphony Number 6,” which charges up the musical notes in the air. Aira uses her abilities gained from Acrobatic Silky, while Okarun and the Cat Figurine also combine to come up with some kind of resistance against the angry souls. The team is fantastically transported to a paddy field, where they must battle it out. The notes keep exploding one by one near Turbo Granny and Okarun, but Aira somehow uses her speed to dodge them.
Beethoven’s team of souls continues their assault, which puts Ken Takakura in real danger. The protagonist finds it difficult to counter the geniuses, and he sulks on the ground, feeling dejected. Turbo Granny implores him to find the strength in himself, pick a song he likes, and move to its rhythm. In this pivotal moment, he remembers the Hayashi Exorcism Song and starts to feel the rhythm. Just as Beethoven’s piano notes are about to destroy Aira, Okarun leaps up and dashes towards the musical beings. Aira manages to kill one of the musical beings with her abilities. Following the elimination of a team member, Beethoven moves on to Symphony Number 9, which places his opponents in a huge gladiatorial singing arena.
Okarun Finds His Fighting Rhythm and Goes Supersonic
As “Ode to Joy” hits the group of three, they look up in wonder as giant singers appear in front of them and sing in a way that summons an army of many souls to attack their opponents. As the souls rush towards Okarun’s team, Turbo Granny tells them not to worry about the souls, who are just distractions, but to focus on the musical geniuses instead. The legends hide behind the safety of the army of the souls, as it almost crushes Okarun’s team. However, Aira leaps up with her powerful hair and brings down the giant singers one by one. With the distraction provided by Aira, Okarun runs faster than he ever has to reach Beethoven’s team. Despite several souls running at him, he braves them and performs epic stunts as he smashes many of them.
In the most pivotal moment of the episode, Okarun reaches supersonic speed as he reaches the musical geniuses and smashes them one after the other, which returns them to their portrait forms. The true extent of Okarun and Turbo Granny’s power is revealed. The illusions around the team of three finally disappear, returning them to the normal surroundings of the school. Okarun thanks Aira for helping him out during the fight, following which Aira feels it is difficult to respond, due to her growing feelings for the protagonist. Okarun also thanks Turbo Granny for helping him out, but she warns him not to feel too proud and says that her abilities go far beyond what he just saw.
Evil Eye Comes Back to Life for a Battle of Epic Proportions
It is revealed by the cat figurine that the Music Souls were the fears of students in the past, manifesting as individuals, and the portraits will come back to life if the piano is played again. Just as she finishes talking, Turbo Granny mistakenly plays a single key on the piano, which leads to the portraits coming alive again. Back at Seiko’s house, Manjiro tells her that they need to get the Hayashi singers back again, as Evil Eye will become more dangerous if he shows up again. Manjiro tells Jiji that the exorcism will happen at any cost, and that he should be ready to part with the entity.
Momo refuses to let it happen, saying that the priest cannot decide things on his own. She also tries to convince Seiko not to allow the exorcism, but gets no response. Jiji suddenly hears Okarun, who asks him to step outside. When the possessed boy steps outside, Okarun asks everyone not to interfere, saying that he’s going to beat Evil Eye to a pulp, as he is too dangerous and cunning. When Manjiro tries to stop Okarun, Seiko tells him not to interfere and lets him fight. Aira pours cold water on Jiji, which transforms him into Evil Eye. Okarun and Evil Eye start to fight each other in a battle of epic proportions.
