‘Dan Da Dan’ is a tale of love, friendship, the occult, the supernatural, aliens, and more. It narrates the intricacies of the bonding between Okarun and Momo, as they explore the desires of their heart and the realm of the unknown. The previous episode ended with the pulsating and adrenaline-pumping fightback by Okarun, wherein he resisted the power of the musical souls led by the spirit of Beethoven. Manjiro convinces Seiko that Jiji has to be liberated from the grasp of Evil Eye. Having found his fighting rhythm, Okarun steps up and challenges Evil Eye to an all-out battle, and swears to destroy him and liberate his friend Jiji. As Evil Eye and Okarun come face to face, their fates hang in the balance. This sets things up perfectly for “I Want to Rebuild the House,” the ninth episode of the second season. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Evil Eye and Okarun Engage in a Deadly Fight
The episode begins with an epic battle between Okarun (as Turbo Granny) and Evil Eye as they try to outdo each other’s skills and speed. The entity uses the aura ball of souls to attack Okarun, which he dodges with his acquired fighting rhythm. Ken Takakura goes all out and goes supersonic, as he strikes Evil Eye with all the power he can muster. The impact of the protagonist’s strike causes the entity to get injured, which he seems to enjoy. Evil Eye expresses happiness for having finally found a match and challenges Okarun to keep fighting. However, due to the all-out effort earlier, the protagonist turns back into his human form. Evil Eye implores Okarun to keep fighting and switch back to his Turbo Granny form.
In a rather hilarious twist to Evil Eye’s arc, he becomes obsessed with the idea of battling against Ken Takakura and even agrees not to hurt anyone else, just to keep his fights with the main character going. Okarun promises to keep fighting him once in a while, when he is not busy with school. It is revealed in a flashback that Okarun’s intention in fighting Evil Eye was not to harm him, but to be his playmate. In the flashback, he tells the Cat Figurine that Evil Eye treats fighting and killing like a sport, which is why he wants to fight him and give him a reason not to harm others. In the present, Evil Eye removes his underwear and gives it to Okarun, saying that he will only take it back when he has slaughtered him.
Mantisian Rebuilds Seiko’s House
The protagonist agrees to fight the spirit on Tuesdays after school, following which the entity disappears, returning Jiji to his naked human form, which makes everyone close their eyes, hilariously. Manjiro locks Evil Eye’s underwear in a box and agrees to take care of it at the shrine in the village, and leaves, hoping to pursue his “BooTuber” aspirations. Jiji’s parents arrive at Seiko’s house and take back their son, after thanking everyone for taking care of the possessed boy. Before he leaves, Seiko tells Jiji to keep getting stronger and seek her help if Evil Eye threatens him again. Aira and Okarun leave, too, but only after Momo and Aira have a funny tussle about Ken Takakura and who gets to be closer to him.
After they leave, Seiko, the cat figurine, and Momo realize that Okarun’s fight has destroyed the house. Seiko and her granddaughter take a day out to chill at the super bathhouse and freshen themselves up, but also worry about rebuilding the house. Seiko says she’s especially sad because her “Bakatono” DVDs got destroyed, too. When they return to the land where the house stood, they are greeted by a strange robot-like entity that only says the word “Toom.” Okarun appears with Mantisian, who reveals that the entity is a friend named Mr. Ludris, a construction expert. Despite Seiko’s reluctance to accept help, Mantisian and Okarun convince her and start to help her rebuild the house. The alien uses nanoskin to make bricks and structures that can transform into any shape. Using alien technology, the group builds a new home, full of creativity.
Evil Eye Hilariously Learns to Socialize
The story shifts to Jiji, who is made to run on the road while his mom drives the car in reverse, in a rather impressive manner. The Enjoji family teaches Seiko’s land to build a house, but finds out it has already been built. Momo welcomes them and takes a walk with Jiji, who tells her that he has transformed into Evil Eye a few times since the fight, but the entity didn’t harm anyone and kept his promise to Okarun. Jiji suddenly asks Momo if she has a crush on anyone, which shocks her, as she struggles to answer the question. Some classmates of Jiji bump into him and offer him a drink, which transforms him into Evil Eye, but he doesn’t harm anyone. Momo leads her friend away from the girls, telling them it was just a prank.
Momo asks Evil Eye to switch back to Jiji’s human form, but he refuses, enjoying the drink instead. At school, Evil Eye plays football with the students and hurts them due to his aggressive play. Momo leads him away from the ground and desperately searches for a hot drink. In the classroom, Evil Eye tries to sit peacefully, but finds it difficult to control his violent urges. Later, Momo tries to have lunch with him, but he struggles to use chopsticks. Miko tells Momo about the “apartment complex ghost,” which appears like a golden ball. Momo realizes that this is most likely Okarun’s missing “Kintama.” As Evil Eye gets adjusted to living with human beings, Momo starts thinking that Okarun could probably get his Kintama back.
