‘Dan Da Dan’follows the lives of Okarun and Momo, who, despite their differing personalities, connect due to their fascination with the occult, the supernatural, aliens, and the unknown. The themes of friendship, love, and adventure are explored in the show poignantly, while also dealing with the insecurities of youth and the use of superpowers. The previous episode ended with the threat of a Kaiju that looms over the city. As Momo and Okarun chase the Kintama, they are also joined by the stranger who is obsessed with Miss Ayase.
The golden ball appears to be too fast for even the powers of Turbo Granny and Momo to catch. It is revealed that the entity controlling the Kintama is a Kaiju, which, to the shock of the main characters, grows building-sized. The fate of the city and the protagonists hang in the balance as the giant monster looks menacing. This sets things up perfectly for “Hey, it’s a Kaiju,” the eleventh episode of the second season. SPOILERS AHEAD.
The Kaiju Wreaks Havoc and Electrical Breath
The episode begins with the giant Kaiju wreaking havoc on the Okarun, Momo, the stranger, and others in the vicinity. The protagonists deduce that the monster is no ordinary being, but actually a “Space Kaiju.” As the electromagnetic pulse of the giant monster causes a blackout, Aira somehow crosses paths with Jiji, and the two of them go looking for Miss Ayase. Just as the unknown stalker boy is about to be crushed by the Kaiju, he is saved by the combined efforts of Miss Ayase, Ken Takakura, and Aira, who all use their abilities. Aira assumes momentary leadership of the fight and charges towards the big creature in her Acrobatic Silky form. Momo predicts that the creature might keep getting bigger, as she piggybacks on Okarun in his Turbo Granny form, and asks Jiji to escort the stranger to safety.
Acrobatic Silky tries special power moves against the monster, which uses electrical breath to ward off the attack. It continues to use the electrical surge as Aira tries to hit it with a car. Acrobatic Silky asks Miss Ayase to address her as “Leader” and orders her to take out the Kaiju’s legs. When Aira tries a grand power move on the threatening creature, it works against her, as the space monster manages to grab her in the air. Just as the Kaiju is about to crush Aira, Momo hits it with a giant billboard to cause a distraction. After freeing herself from the beast’s grasp, Aira realizes that her powers aren’t even scratching the monster. The beast runs amok on the streets, causing large-scale destruction as it hunts down the main characters.
The Unexpected Transformation of Jiji
Okarun guesses that maybe the Kaiju is a descendant of dinosaurs and evolved to survive in outer space. He also thinks that the beast’s horns might be powered by some kind of cosmic energy that turns it into electricity, which gives it the power of optical camouflage. Takakura deduces that they can probably stop the Kaiju if they can find its energy source. As Aira distracts the beast, Momo tries to attack it, which causes it to momentarily collapse, after which it becomes invisible and then strikes Aira ferociously. Meanwhile, the stranger piggybacks on Jiji in another area of the city and starts sweating on him, which causes Jiji to transform into Evil Eye.
Okarun goes “all out” again to save Aira, which takes a lot out of him. Momo then uses her powers to carry Okarun and Aira back to Seiko’s compound, where Evil Eye and the stranger wait. Evil Eye demands Okarun to fight him as part of their weekly fight deal, but is told it is not a Tuesday. Momo begins to ponder if they can somehow convince Evil Eye to fight on their side, but Okarun casts doubts, saying that it will enable the entity to break his promise and hurt others. Okarun sees that the walls of the house glow when Momo touches them and concludes that it is alien nanoskin tech. He intends to use it against the Kaiju, which slowly starts advancing towards the compound.
The Glory of the Great Kinta Bodhisattva
Takakura says that Seiko’s rebuilt house is made up of nanoskin, which actually contains ultra-high-density nanomachines that pick up electrical signals from human beings and can take whatever shape people imagine. He tries to visualize something bigger than a Kaiju, but is unsuccessful. This is the moment when the unnamed stranger says he is the sci-fi expert and reveals his name as Kinta Sakata. As he visualizes something big, the house seemingly begins to transform, causing all the characters to shift to different parts, almost like “Transformers.”
In an epic sequence of almost godly scale, the house transforms into a robotic and building-sized “Buddha.” The big robot also places all the characters in positions resembling weapons control stations. Momo reveals that she actually thought of the Buddha and not Kinta. Sakata names the robot “Great Kinta Bodhisattva,” and gets ready to fight along with the others. As the Kaiju approaches, it sets the stage for a clash of cosmic proportions.
