‘Dan Da Dan’ is a tale of ghosts, aliens, supernatural beings, secrets, and the unknown seen through the eyes of Ken Takakura and Momo Ayase. The two of them deal with the trials and tribulations of youth, while also dealing with their hidden powers. The anime series delves into ideas of friendship, loyalty, and courage, while also exploring myths and legends. The previous episode concluded with the grand transformation of Seiko’s house into a huge war machine, which Kinta Sakata calls “Great Kinta Bodhisattva.” The machine places all the characters in the house in battle positions within it, as the dreaded Kaiju approaches. The stage is set for a deadly battle of cosmic proportions between a great machine and a cosmic beast. This sets the tone for “Clash! Space Kaiju vs. Giant Robot!,” the final episode of the second season. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Dan Da Dan Season 2 Finale Plot Recap
The episode begins with Okarun, Momo, Aira, Evil Eye, and Kinta all being stuck inside the giant robotic machine. As the Kaiju approaches Seiko’s house, they find it difficult to understand the battle stations within it, as it has multiple buttons with different functions. In a state of panic, they all press different buttons on their stations, which ejects Okarun out of the machine and sends him flying with his ejector seat attached to him. The others are shocked to see what’s happening, and the machine seemingly loses an arm as well. This also causes the robot to fall, which leads to the Kaiju gaining an upper hand temporarily. Okarun lands on the ground safely, and Evil Eye breaks free in the ensuing chaos after the machine’s collapse.
Seeing the entity break free starts to worry Okarun, as he realizes that Evil Eye will probably hope to fight him as per their fight-deal earlier. The Kaiju sends even someone as powerful as Evil Eye flying and makes him realize the depth of its strength. As Okarun and Evil Eye look on, the space beast breathes electricity again and seemingly regains its full capacity for destruction. Just when all hope seems lost, the fallen robot starts attacking the Kaiju and rises again, while transforming into an even more magnificent robot. Kinta Sakata figures out how to control the nanoskin through his mind and then starts countering the beast. The space monster gets angry, but the transformed machine hits it again with full force, all thanks to Kinta’s brilliance.
What follows is a sequence of visual extravagance as Kinta comes up with new and unique ways to counter the wrath of the beast. He uses all his anime-related brilliance to deliver a punch to the Kaiju, which sends it flying through the buildings. He even figures out how to reattach the robot’s hand through nanotechnology. However, in close combat, the beast breathes electricity, which appears to cause trouble for the robot. Kinta’s memory goes back to how he was always bullied and shamed by others at school for being a nerd obsessed with comics. The rage associated with these memories makes him stronger, and the giant robot gets up, ready to fight again. Kinta then uses an ultra-magnetic power move to trouble the Kaiju further.
Dan Da Dan Season 2 Finale Ending: How is the Space Kaiju Defeated?
Okarun and Evil Eye run towards the scene of the fight in the city, as Kinta’s moves give everyone hope to win the battle against the dreaded space monster. When it looks like Kinta Sakata has managed to neutralize the Kaiju, it suddenly becomes invisible and punches the machine. The giant Buddha robot suddenly becomes incapacitated due to the ferocity of the beast and its electrical breath. Despite the nerd’s brilliance, the machine and the people inside it find it difficult to continue fighting. As the airbags of the battle station almost swallow Kinta, Aira uses Acrobatic Silky’s hair to wrap the beast, negating its power of invisibility. This changes the situation as the main characters finally figure out a way to get past the beast’s most impressive and dangerous ability. Covered in hair, the Kaiju find it difficult to breathe electricity or vanish in the midst of a fight.
Momo starts to use her powers in a unique way and brings the disintegrated parts of the giant robot together. This moment of brilliance from Miss State animates the broken machine and helps it to regenerate at a crucial time. Momo and Aira channel their powers to send Kaiju up into the sky, still wrapped up in Acrobatic Silky’s special hair. Levitating high, the space monster tries to go electric again, but finds it difficult. When the beast finally breaks up all the hair, it looks like it will be able to land on the ground and continue its destruction of the city. At this crucial point in the battle, Momo uses a powerful move, which combines the power of the machine with her own abilities. It creates a kind of aura beam, which Miss Ayase uses to land a final punch to neutralize the space beast.
Is the Space Kaiju Dead or Alive? Who Controls it?
The powerful Kaiju, despite all the glory of its power, collapses to the ground and seemingly meets its end as it also becomes smaller in size. As daylight breaks, people in the city are shocked to see a giant robot. Momo turns the robot into a UFO and flies it out of the city and back into Seiko’s land, where she converts it into a house again. Amidst all this action, Okarun is left behind in the city with Evil Eye. He sees the people taking pictures of the now tiny Kaiju. He goes close to the beast and finds that it is no longer moving, which makes him believe that the space monster is perhaps truly eliminated. Ken Takakura buys some snacks to turn Evil Eye back into Jiji, and asks for his help to transport the tiny Kaiju’s body away from the city.
The two boys carry the space beast’s body and run away from the city, even as people chase them curiously. However, the two boys manage to outrun everyone and bring the body of the defeated beast back to Seiko’s house. Aira and Momo throw up due to motion sickness from the earlier fight against the Kaiju. Okarun and Jiji are received by Kinta, who asks them if their whole group is committed to protecting the planet from Kaiju attacks. Okarun says that he is just looking to get back his kintama before ghosts and aliens find it. Upon examining the mouth of the supposedly dead Kaiju, Okarun notices a shining piece that looks like a zipper. When he unzips it, he finds that the whole body of the Kaiju actually contains a strange girl inside. This shocks Takakura, Kinta, and Jiji, as they never expected to see a young girl hidden within such a dreaded beast.
Despite not being specifically explained by the narrative, it can be presumed that the kaiju girl is the one controlling the whole body and not a prisoner. She appears to be temporarily defeated, but we see that her arms are spread in a way that indicates she is the one who has been behind the Kaiju attacks all this time. It also seems like the Kaiju’s body is unique and is capable of expansion and size-shifting as needed. This is presumably how the girl was able to carry out all the attacks while being seated inside it. Her head also has glowing lights, which means that she is not a regular being and possibly holds some kind of superpower that enables her to dominate fights.
Will Okarun and the Kaiju Girl Get Together?
When Momo enters the scene, she sees Okarun kissing the strange girl, which shocks her. She destroys the nanoskin house in a state of anger and surprise. When Okarun reveals the girl hidden within the Kaiju, he immediately makes eye contact with her and is visibly attracted to her. However, it is not revealed if he was the one who initiated the kiss or the kaiju girl. When Momo sees them, it can be seen that both Okarun and the kaiji girl seem lost in each other’s eyes. As the story moves forward, it can be presumed that the two will possibly get together, which would cause major problems for the relationship between Miss Ayase and Ken Takakura.
Since Okarun is fascinated with aliens, he could also be curious about the kaiju girl’s abilities and how she is able to control such a creature despite being small in size. It is also possible that the kiss is just an impulsive action in the heat of the moment, and may not mean much. Ken Takakura is a shy person, and he will probably be overwhelmed by all the things he experienced in the aftermath of the Kaiju battle. He might choose not to pursue anything romantic with the strange girl, as he values his friendship with Momo, with whom he has had so many meaningful experiences.
