Evan Spiliotopoulos’ next horror feature will be shot in the Land of the Navigators! The filming of the supernatural drama ‘Dangerous Games to Play,’ helmed by Ángel Gómez Hernández, will start in Portugal in the spring of 2025. The cast and crew of the movie have yet to be disclosed.
Based on Lucia Peters’ novel ‘Dangerous Games to Play in the Dark,’ the plot revolves around a collection of spine-chilling games based on urban legends from around the world. While these games appear to be simple dares or tests of bravery, a group of friends soon learns that flirting with the “other side” is nothing but dangerous and that what they have summoned because of their lack of awareness does not wish for the games to end.
Spiliotopoulos’ previous horror credits include ‘The Unholy’ and ‘The Pope’s Exorcist.’ The former is based on the 1983 novel ‘Shrine’ by James Herbert and follows a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who arrives in a small New England town that reportedly experiences miracles. The latter is inspired by the Italian priest/exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth’s books, ‘An Exorcist Tells His Story’ and ‘An Exorcist: More Stories.’ Its narrative centers on Father Amorth (Russell Crowe), who uncovers an old conspiracy while dealing with the demonic possession of a child.
Spiliotopoulos’ other notable projects are Brett Ratner’s Dwayne Johnson-starrer ‘Hercules,’ Bill Condon’s Emma Watson-starrer ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ Cedric Nicolas-Troyan’s ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War,’ Elizabeth Banks’ ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ and Robert Schwentke’s ‘Snake Eyes.’
Ángel Gómez Hernández has previously helmed several short films, the latest ones being ‘Honor: Cruce de Caminos,’ ‘The Weeping Man,’ ‘Don’t Listen,’ and ‘The Silent Weeping.’ His sole feature directorial work is the teen fantasy horror drama ‘The Boogeyman: The Origin of the Myth,’ based on the myth of the Sack Man who takes away disobedient children. He also directed the horror miniseries ‘Tecnofobia.’
Portugal recently served as the filming location for the Netflix series ‘Gangs of Galicia’ and the Disney+ show ‘The Acolyte.’
